I know it might look like a disappoinitng year given only two 9+'s, but my standard for a 9 is quite high. A 9.0 a couple years ago was probably like an 8.5 is now. Oh wow, I never noticed the delay echoes at around 2:40 in Tachi, probably because I often don't listen as closely as I should to music.... that is really, really coool! (obv. dl's are used in other places, too, but that part sticks out to me) Dark Pit has grown on me, too...I like those transposing guitar three-note patterns. But that moment of silence feels so out of place! I prefer moments of silence in stuff like Cave of the Deep, https://youtu.be/3hGm54mLZcI?t=15. (granted, technically it's not really silence because of the reverb) For a while now (as in before this contest) I thought it would be cool to run a vgm contest with only forest themes. Oh, and I am super happy that two excellent Forest themes retired in Bracket A! My goodness, Place has a 9.0 rating for all four retirees in A? Crazy. Granted, my ratings for them are like 8.5/9.1/8.7/8.0 and my ratings tend to curve a bii lower than that of Place, so my own ratings aren't too wildly different. But yeah, I consider Bracket A and Bracket D to have the most consistently good retirees, while B is very poliarized, having two tracks in my top 200 vgm. (I doubt I was the first to say that >_>) The last two of my 9.x tracks in Bracket D have fallen, oh, no! At least the D1-D4 retirees are all solidly in the 8.x range, so it could have been worse. I'm happy that Secret of Mana gets some glory, finally, even if I would say Steel and Snare > Danger (ARM) > Prophecy. Time to nominate something else from Secret of Mana for next year. Senko no Ronde DUO - CUCU (Cuilan Phase 4) (Yasuhisa Watanabe) I like your pick here! So much great music in that game. I tried ranking the better part of the soundtrack. Then I ranked those again and the order of everything was completely different, hahaha... (except that Tactical Field was still on top and my #2 was still travelers in the shadow...) Oh, yeah, and you should follow with Gates to Infinity's soundtrack. Of interest to you would be that four other tracks in the game are in the same vein as Tyrian Maze ~ Inner Chamber, so it's worth exploring for those alone. --- "Ah, a party! Anyway, today it feels weird having two high-rated tracks retire the same day, when the contest has mostly been going against me. I am very happy, though! Breath of Forest is probably in my top 30 vgm at this point (officially #48, but it's grown on me since then), and it's by far my favorite Mad Rat Dead music. It's nice to have a second Pokemon [Mystery Dungeon] retiree, too, even if there are lots of others I would have preferred. We should have a Sky Tower bonus match when we're finished: Blue Rescue Team vs. Rescue Team DX. If Blue Rescue Team wins that, then we know that that version is retired in spirit, as well!
