I really liked this episode. It started off all Home Alone and then went Helm's Deep.

I think one part did sour it. The fucking sword. Did Arondir not notice he was holding a fucking axe? Why didn't Theo immediately go "yoooo wtf". What if Arondir was playing a trick on him?

Seriously though, I wonder what the last two episodes will be about.

Movies are gonna take a while, but TV has been dealing with it for a while. Like someone said, SVU dealt with it a lot, even down to chatting about which vaccines they had taken.

Stabler's show L&O Organized Crime's first season extensively dealt with it and had them running around in masks. The main bad guy was some mobster's son who was expanding the family business into stealing PPE and vaccines and making money off the pandemic.

I don't think it's that. I think he's assuming the Hero's Shade is adult Link from OoT.

Tyranthraxus posted...
No no. There aren't two links in a single timeline. One of them is just the ghost of the ancestor but it makes no sense for the shade to be part of the child timeline.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/1/3/4/AARLwzAADtVm.jpg
I'm not seeing what the issue with the Hero's Shade is. The Hero's Shade is not the adult Link from OoT. He is child Link that lived a normal life after MM and grew up into the proper adult Link.

I did address the Hero's Shade. That's the child Link from OoT and MM. He eventually grew up.

As I said, the downfall timeline seems more like a place to just throw stuff instead of being anything consistent. Meanwhile the other two are pretty obvious and been talked about by Nintendo for a long time.

The defeat time line is what gets me. How is that possible. Like they need to go back and fix that some how. Like the times lines really don't matter but that one just throws everything off.
It's just a way to reconcile the other games that were before they thought of any timeline and were just making Zelda games.

Tyranthraxus posted...
There may be a split or whatever but that split is basically OoT > MM (child) and OoT > TP (Adult) and it stops there.

The published timeline makes zero fucking sense.

* Adult OoT link appears in TP but somehow causes the future of Wind Waker.
* Zero apparent repercussions of Link dying in "downfall" timeline. What the fuck is even the point of the game.
* Breath of the Wild contains contradictory time paradox shit incompatible with all three "timelines"
That's not the split.

As lucariopikmin posted the quote from Aonuma, adult Link saves the world but leaves to go back to being a child in the past. Then he gets lost looking for Navi, does MM, returns and is given no real credit. Ganondorf is arrested for plotting against the king and "executed ". Then TP happens.

Meanwhile, the adult timeline has no Link since he left and Ganondorf escapes and starts destroying shit. People pray for Link to return as he was the hero that saved everybody, but nobody shows up. So they pray to the gods, who decide to flood the world and that's WW.

Aonuma also said BotW is not anywhere on the timeline and was done purposely to keep people guessing.

Aonuma had been talking about the split child and adult timelines long before Hyrule Historia. The third timeline could have been a Dark Horse invention, but even that we don't know 100%. But Nintendo definitely made the two timelines after OoT very obvious.

In the lore, nobody can supposedly carry it forever. Some people like Hobbits, can resist longer than others. I dont know if anyone in the lore has ever been confirmed to be immune to the ring. But it would be very interesting if such a person existed
At least in Middle Earth, Tom Bombadil is completely immune to any effects. The original plan was to give it to him since it won't do anything to him. Gandalf tells them the problem with that is that since it has no effects or power over him, he'd forget about it and lose it. So they decided with the Fellowship.

They had to destroy the Ring because it contained a part of Sauron in it. It would be too risky to just shoot that off into space.

Also, I think the place Morgoth was banished to is considered space, so it wouldn't be a good idea to leave that open. Though I doubt the Ring would be of any use to Morgoth.

I disagree. That is what Thanos was coming to do and Tony did everything up till IW to prepare, like with his tech, and it was because he saw what was coming. "Cursed with knowledge"

If you take that away, they have zero idea of what's coming. Ultron never happens. Banner doesn't end up on Sakaar to eventually encounter Thanos and return to Earth to warn everybody. The team stays together, Scott never meets Cap, Thanos arrives with several stones and gets the rest and snaps. No Endgame without Scott.

Doesn't that guy Elrond is working for basically have to be Sauron? Because the elf king sent Galadriel away and declared the war over so he could pivot their civilization to building that giant forging tower the guy wants? You know, the sort of thing that would be great for making magic rings?

But maybe I'm getting the lore messed up because it has been years and years since I read any Tolkien. I'm still not sure if the guy who is with the not-quite-Hobbits is Gandalf, Radaghast, Sauruman, or an original character. And I keep expecting one or both of the Blue Wizards to pop out of nowhere and help Galadriel.
Celebrimbor is the Wraith from Shadows of Mordor. In the actual lore, he was tricked by Annatar to create the rings.

If they go with that, then Annatar (Sauron) can be a totally different character not introduced yet.

The more I think about this show the more I think it has amazing potential to be a show (spoilers for first 4 episodes and some posturing) of immense tragedy

I think they are obviously building towards the battle and having Isildur cut off Saurons finger as the season 5 ending.

But they have so much more potential to build these characters up for a huge tragedy. Basically every storyline is doomed already. Elrond and Celebrimbor and the one Ring. Galadriel failing. The south lands becoming Mordor. Halbrand becoming the Witch King. The Dwarves unleashing the Balrog. Im confused about where the boy with the magic sword is going but I guess well see.

its like the Empire Strikes Back of LotR. I think Im more excited for what this show represents than what it is. The idea of them setting every character up to fail, but knowing itll all be resolved by the trilogy is a risky idea if thats what they are going for. But with some more quality writing I think they could definitely pull it off
Are they really heading towards waking Durin's Bane? I thought he was awoken a couple of thousand years later.

Anyway, yeah, I get what you're saying. I think that's an interesting way to go. I think at the end, they will end with the implication that all this is eventually lost to history till Smeagol finds the Ring and starts the chain reaction that leads to Sauron's final end.

Also, I think Theo will somehow be sacrificed, like blood sacrifice. Either to make the blade whole permanently, or some kind of essence put into the creation of the One Ring. The reason will be because he's Halbrand's son.
