Imagine asking a question, then immediately ask a second question that would answer the first one with a quick google search.

You can go to this guy, show him your Charizard, and he effectively "saves" it, moves, EVs, nature/current mint, etc. You can then change everything about this Pokemon, and when you go back to this fella, he can turn your Pokemon back into any previously saved version instantly. That way you can keep your buddy and it doesn't take like a day to swap around stuff if you want to try something different.
