I think so. They've come a long way with the open combat style since FF15, if they can just have the plot make sense they're golden

I finished my 1st (and probably only) play-through yesterday. I enjoyed the game but I felt it dragged on a bit. After the Capital dungeon I stopped exploring and just focused on doing the main stuff, through I did do the optional big bosses.
