I can probably count on one hand the number of female friends I have who haven't told me about having been raped. Its genuinely horrifying. Old was really and truly awful. Its a shame because The Visit and Split were really solid, and then Glass and Old were such a letdown, especially Old. Woof.

Servant is pretty good, though, if you have AppleTV+ (Shyamalan doesnt write or direct but hes the show runner so he controls most of the production and you can definitely feel his presence in a lot of the shot framing and camerawork)

Just finished the first episode and I think its pretty solid so far. One thing that threw me for a bit of a loop was the establishing shot text giving the year along with the location. I dont think weve ever seen a main canon Star Wars project use the BBY/ABY Calendar openly before, have we? Very strange, especially when later, in the flashback scenes, they purposefully dont translate the alien language with subtitles. Its almost as if they are acknowledging that we, as an audience, exist, but that we arent meant to be privy to the conversations occurring in those flashbacks because they are memories belonging to Cassian? Im not sure I quite understand the purpose of that, but it definitely feels like a distinct narrative juxtaposition and Im intrigued by it.

Sure. Ive dated two girls who were 52 and that didnt really present any issues, and I had a friend in college who was 411 so I can sort of envision how much shorter that would be.

I felt like the whole kneeling for the anthem thing should have been a dream compromise for the pro-anthem crowd, all things considered. Doesnt cause a scene, disrupt the anthem itself, or prevent anyone else from taking part in standinghell, kneeling itself is sort of a sign of reverence or deference. By most metrics it barely counted as a protest at all. And yet they still decided to shit their britches over it.

Lots to like about this episode, but I gotta say my favorite part was watching Larys Strong play Queen Alicent like a fiddle. He gives the impression of someone who could give Littlefinger and Varys a run for their money, which is something the show really needed. He absolutely stole that scene and honestly made Otto Hightowers manipulations of Viserys (even the ones that worked) look like the rumblings of a child.

I also really like how they treated Ser Criston Cole here. The book never really gives a clear picture of what causes his falling out with Princess Rhaenyra but the writers did a great job of pricing together a strong and believable motivation for him.

Good stuff, looking forward to shit really hitting the fan in the second half of the season.

One thing that you need to keep in mind with regards to the dating app stuff is that this is Hollywood: they arent going to actually show us an ugly main character. At least not a womanmale leads can get away with not being hot if its a comedy, obviously, but 99% of the time a woman cast for a lead role is always going to be, at a bare minimum, moderately hot. If the character needs to be ugly or struggle with romance, they are still going to hire the hottest actor they can to play the character. Then they just give them glasses, or bad hair, and have all the other characters treat them as though they were marginally unattractive, and we the audience are supposed to then infer that, in the world of the show/movie/play/etc., they are ugly. I mean how could Jen be hot, she has *checks notes* frizzy, unkempt hair! Bleh! Ugh! Yucko, no thanks.

I dont know about real jousting but in the books its repeatedly mentioned that, unlike in the chaos of a real battle, horsemanship tends to be more important than sheer physical prowess when it comes to winning at jousting competitions.

Narratively it makes sense for Durin's Bane to kill off all the dwarves we know but not sure it fits with the timeline, pretty sure that happened well into the Third Age and this show will end with the end of the Second Age I would think.

They already incorporated the Straight Path even though thats not supposed to exist until after the Changing of the World and the destruction of Numenor and they have already introduced Elendil, Isildur, Ar-Pharazon, etc. even though the Rings of Power were supposed to be crafted more than a thousand years before they were even born, so I dont think they will see it as too big of a departure.

Personally Im not convinced yet that will actually see Durins Bane in the series, but I dont think that the timeline will be a concern for them if thats the direction they are going in.

Its possible that Sauron is Halbrand but I buy more heavily into the theory that Halbrand is a future Nazgl, possibly the Witchking of Angmar himself and that Sauron is the old man who fell from the sky.

In any case I didnt find this episode a slog like other people didalthough the absence of the Harfoots was pretty noticeable. We got a lot of pretty important character building moments (Halbrand with Galadriel, Durin with his father, Adar and the orcs, Ar-Pharazon) that were pretty intriguing. The only characters who I find kind of boring are, ironically, Elendils family, and the kid with the hilt whose name escapes me at the moment.

I also really, REALLY liked the song Durins wife sang. Really beautiful and evocative.

A lot of times when you're in that situation, you have to make the call of what to do in the moment as things are happening, and they typically don't refer to it as an "abortion" when you are going over your options.

You'd think the fact that they come down on the opposite side of the argument as Mr. Rogers would be a wake-up call for right-wingers, but alas.

I liked this episode; it actually had Jen come up with a smart legal maneuver to win the case (even though she wasn't technically the attorney), explored some genuine internal conflict stuff she has about reconciling her regular persona with her She-Hulk formboth things I have previously said the series lackedand still kept its charm and humor. Bonus points for the "Pro Say" podcast name legal pun.

I do wish they would lean into the fourth wall breaks a bit more. They feel a bit slapped-on, like they do it just for the sake of "honoring" the comic character, rather than being a purposeful narrative choice. Maybe they are just trying to avoid comparisons to Deadpool, but I think shows like Fleabag or House of Lies do a much better job in this aspect.

Overall though I'd say that while there are still some things I'd change about the show on the whole, this last episode has been a good improvement, and I'm hopeful that it will land on a solid identity for itself before the season ends.

I still can't get over the irony of a guy who has a well-documented history of trying to silence his critics having gone on this "free speech" crusade, and trying to buy a social media platform under the pretense of "if they can silence me, the richest man in the world, then they can silence anyone!"

The more Ive thought about it, it didnt really make sense to have Ariel be a white redhead in the first place, when the movie clearly takes place in tropical waters, most likely in the Caribbean. But Id say my feelings are mostly neutral/apathetic because the live action remakes/reboots have all been kind of middling at best.

Depends on the game. I guess I tend to go with male characters, unless theres something about the game to suggest that a female character is the intended default. In Bards Tale 4, for example, you start off as a female character and then have the option of customizing a new character after the tutorial is done, but I just stick with the original one. Also like someone else said, if there are gender-locked classes or specific story arcs for specific genders I may pick a female character to access those.
