i don't think this is necessarily an unpopular opinion. they both have the exact same score on IMDb (7.4), so it doesn't seem like there's a clear favorite between the two.

i liked homecoming better, though.

i watched some of monster during the mumei hype cycle. lost interest after awhile but my brother (who watched the whole thing) told me i "stopped right before it started getting REALLY good."

maybe i should finally finish it after 15 years!

video game geeks might have known rocket because he was in a marvel vs. capcom game but yeah.

it still amazes me how stylized guardians of the galaxy is. you can really tell that this is a movie by an auteur filmmaker and disney mostly just let him do his thing.

as jay points out in redlettermedia's no way home review, the personal style of the director is often lacking in MCU movies. i think no way home is good but does it really matter that it was directed by jon watts?

correction: just watched a bit of john campea's livestream and he said that he liked the show overall.

pretty surprising because he was really trashing it for the first few episodes!

i prefer IMDb to RT for gauging the audience reaction and rings of power has a 6.9 over there. not an amazing score but solid enough.

While that's true, that Spiderman was also less sarcastic, in tune. My point wasn't that Peter needs to be sarcastic, just that it's the most glaring example of Peter and Spiderman seeming almost nothing alike. When Tobey's Peter becomes Spiderman, it suddenly feels like he's reading a part made for somebody else. Tobey's Spiderman doesn't feel like a more confident version of Tobey's Peter, basically. It feels like he's getting possessed.

Yeah, the whole "what happened to Isildur" plotline kind of falls flat if you have any knowledge at all of the later books.

Right, but Spiderman has never really been portrayed that way outside of Tobey. I can't really remember an instance where Spiderman and Peter Parker come off as two completely different people as much as Tobey's version. Spiderman has usually been more... Peter coming into his own and being more confident, not Peter becoming a completely different personality.

EDIT: Basically, I'm not saying Tobey's portrayal feels weird overall. I'm just saying it feels weird for Peter Parker/Spiderman.

someone like scarlet can correct me when i'm wrong but from what i remember, the lee/ditko peter was very insecure and not all that sarcastic (there's a reason he got bullied in high school). what you're describing is more like the later, mature peter. sure, tobey was bad at playing that peter but i thought his portrayal of an old-school peter was fine (even though he obviously looked too old to be in high school).
