Looking at the BOST 5 bracket, here is the max. songs a game can use leading up to the Losers' Final:

Lose in R1/R2: 11
Lose in R3: 10
Lose in R4: 9
Lose in R5: 8
Lose in R6 (Winners' Final): 7
Win R6: 6

For example, if I win R1 but lose R2, then I end up in Losers' R2 and have to make it all the way to Losers' R10.

Maybe the snubs format should just be "secret, to be announced later"

4. For the main bracket, songs will be chosen completely randomly from your main set. In the snubs' bracket, songs will be chosen according to the placing in your nominations. The first three songs will be chosen without replacement from the songs in the 4/5/6 slot, and the next two songs from the 2/3 slot. The finals will use the 1 song.
5. In the main bracket, after round 6 until the finals, games will use their "alternate" songs. The finals will feature three random songs from the main set, and if a rematch is needed due to the losers' bracket champion earning a bracket reset, the other three songs will be used.

Round 6 = Winners' Final, so this means up to 5 alts would be used only if you make it far enough in the losers' bracket? (since Losers' Final = Round 11 for an entrant that lost in R1/R2)

I guess the lazy way to nominate is to just have a "main pool" and "alt pool," and only worry about ordering them if it's picked for snubs.

I've been keeping up with most of these updates, you are a trouper!

Just finished catching up, I very much support BOST being the fun and random sister contest to VGMC with its tradition and objectivity. I'm not picky with how we achieve that; as I understand it we could either randomize per game (Umineko gets 3-5-2-4-1-6, Shatter gets 2-1-5-6-4-3) or roll a contest-wide order when making the bracket (all games get 3-5-2-4-1-6). Both do away with the extra work of ordering your nomination setlist, which I like!

azuarc did mention the interesting idea of having setlists ordered by strength like last time, but also use the contest-wide random order - you'd get the consistency of all #3-strongest facing off in R1, all #5-strongest in R2, and so on. Personally I think full random is more fun and less work! We already use small setlists in the spirit of convenience over true objectivity, and having my #6 face someone's #1 is why there's a losers bracket right? Actually, I haven't considered how randomization would fit with double elimination but I'm sure it'll get figured out.

In last year's final, I said resurrectedreplayer vs. Id Purpose "gives me some hope for slower/low-energy songs to succeed in VGMC" - I wonder if this year's retirees went too far in that direction, but I do consider this a great final to add to the history of VGMC! The two contenders feel especially refreshing when compared against the last few sets of finalists. I'd be happy for either song winning, but Passing would be an especially great champion. Go Team Forests!

I am fine with these retirees! I'd say this year ranks below 13 and 15, but above 14. I'm especially happy for Move Me / Endless Desert / Passing Through the Forest, and Different World 1 / Sky Tower / Breath of Forest feel like deserving retirees, even though I rank them below songs like The Lost City.

I do feel I'm missing that sense of excitement from previous years, mostly because I couldn't be as active this year but also because I was already familiar with many of the songs. Passing Through the Forest and Different World 1 have that special combination of discovery plus personal enjoyment, but previous years would have more songs that felt like discoveries or re-discoveries. Move Me being my first support to retire really makes up for everything though - go my Unknown D&B!!
