Alot has changed. Vaccines and boosters, mutations to be less deadly, doctors learning effective ways to treat it, hospitals not over run.

We're to a point now where it's not "over" but it's a bit more under control. We all knew it would get to this point eventually. I just wish we could've gotten here without so many people having to die.

Exactly this. I went thru this many years ago.
I know its not UBI, but my family was receiving state benefits. Food, health insurance etc.. I was working at the time but making shit money. I got an offer for a better job, but doing the math in it, we found out that I would be making too much to qualify for those benefits and not enough to afford to live with out them.
It was a really shitty situation.
Eventually I did end up with something that's makes more than enough to live. But there was a major struggle there for a while.

We even considered having another kid cuz that would increase the amount we were allowed to make and still qualify. How fucked up is that? Thinking about bringing a new person into this world, just so we could afford to live. (we didn't do it, but we talked about it)

I dunno. Maybe the constitution needs some updates. Patches and bug fixes. Dlc or some shit. I mean it was written by guys that literally owned people and whose heads would fuckin explode at the idea of a dishwasher.

Well, I mean, things with covid are improving. Masks weren't going to be required forever. It's still spreading but the severity, hospitalizations, and deaths are way down.
It's doing what many scientists thought it would do eventually.
Controlling the spread was super important when hospitals were over run and people were dying in the lobby. They're not anymore because between vaccinations, infections, and mutations, covid isn't as dangerous anymore.
