Short story was that it was IP blocked a few years ago not necessarily because of the karma calculator but possibly because of other websites on the shared host server so I had the idea to route requests through a freehost instead and that freehost account got deleted due to inactivity. Since the former ip block is gone I just removed the freehost middle man for now.

It's working again for now. It wasn't IP blocked something in the middle broke.
