(Alison Brie is one of the few genuine celebrity crushes I've had over my lifetime, and it was a nice surprise to find out that she was the same age as me irl)

The word 'fart' is surprisingly controversial when it comes to broadcast television. While it wasn't originally part of George Carlin's '7 Words You Can Never Say on Television,' he later noted that it ought to be added. One of the more well-known 'fart' controversies of the time was the 2000 Oscars, in which the South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut song 'Blame Canada' was nominated for Best Original Song, and the Academy requested that they censor the line 'they won't obey their parents, they just want to fart and curse' from the live performance. Trey Parker and Matt Stone obviously refused, and ultimately the line was allowed to be sung unedited (by Robin Williams, no less):

Theres two interesting things here.
1) Iguanas fall like snow when it's cold in Florida.
2) there's an actual tv station in Florida who's station designation is WINK.

That's my preferred local news station, funnily enough. They're invaluable during hurricane season, to the point where I prefer them over the NHC or Weather Channel (something I appreciated all the more when WINK's local doppler radar got knocked out midway through Hurricane Ian, and I had to rely on the less accurate radars of the latter two for up-to-date info).

Only flaw I can see is that the viewer's angle is about 30-45 degrees too high ;-) Other than that, *chef's kiss*

I liked Yara well enough, but her character always threw me a bit because her name was Asha in the books (the show changed it to avoid confusion with Osha). The book also described her as pretty much my dream girl looks-wise (long-legged and athletic, short black hair), so that was another hurdle that Yara had to constantly overcome.

If you want to feel a taste of the heartbreak that the locals are going through right now, google Matlacha before and after pics (I can't be arsed because I'm in an Ian-induced blackout myself rn). Think of your favorite cutesy / quirky seaside town in your favorite RPG, and then imagine the fist of God wiping it clean off the map.

One of these days I hope to make enough of an impression to make the tag list. Might be tough for me to participate this month anyway, considering the blackout I'm in could still last a couple weeks.

Parks and rec is the office with a cast that's actually good.

The office is unwatchable imo due to the cast being unlikable fuckheads.

The article touched on this, but Parks and Rec is one of those rare comedies that's genuinely funny and well-written while maintaining an upbeat tone, positive message, and likeable cast. Not only is the cast genuinely likeable, it actually took actors I previously hated / didn't care for and made them likeable.

It's the unit of measurement used to determine how much one is getting 'jiggy' with it.

If you're in the path of a hurricane and need to stay up on getting info, NEVER watch the national news. Always stick with your local news. I'm in the path of Ian myself, and I've pretty much sworn off all but my preferred local station until (one way or another) it finally passes.

Its the national news' job to hype, first and foremost; hell, I watched either the CBS or NBC Nightly News once during the ramp-up to Irma, and it had some jackass meteorologist running from one side of the weather screen to the other, ranting about how Irma was going to 'rip like a buzzsaw' up the entire Florida West Coast. Nobody who's being threatened by a hurricane needs to deal with that extra amount of stress. The national news is for people who don't have to deal with hurricanes, and can look at the situation with a far more detached sense of spectacle.

The local news on the other hand has a vested interest in keeping hype down as much as possible, and getting the info as correct as possible; they have a vested interest in doing so because, obviously, they live here too.

The further we as a planet slide into environmental ruin and resource scarcity, the more people will look towards demagogues full of easy answers, most often in the form of scapegoating and shortsighted non-solutions.

I'm far from an anime connoisseur, and out of maybe a dozen 'mainstream' animes that I've tried to watch over the past decade or so, Kill la Kill is one of maybe three or four that I actually loved enough to watch from start to finish. Even One Punch Man can't claim that (I lost interest about halfway through s2).

There was a time when LoZ was my number-one franchise, and unlike Final Fantasy, it's never really fallen very far from that height. But I just barely muddled through a 2nd playthrough of Twilight Princess, and even though I bought Skyward Sword, I've still never bothered to play it. To say that I was burnt out on the (massive air quotes) "traditional" Zelda formula would be an understatement.

Initial two-dose vaccine and booster (Moderna); got the updated bivalent booster a week ago (switched to Pfizer; it was all they offered at CVS, and I read a couple sites that said there's potential for slight immunity improvement when switching).

Technically Balthier is a secret character in FFT: War of the Lions, as well as being in Revenant Wings. Though I don't remember him standing out much as a character in either case.

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up. I knew he sung a version of the song, and I guess I conflated the two. I haven't actually watched the RnB Hobbit since I was a kid, but when I thought back on it years later it seemed plausible that it had been Nimoy's voice singing.
