At the time it blew my mind, but it's more than nostalgia.

It was my first FPS game to even play. But it wasn't just that, but the details, music, AI, level design, mission structure, weapon selection, immersion, stealth mechanics, multiplayer, movie tie in, variety of level themes, sound effects, destructible objects, dynamic damage to enemies, etc...

It is also easy to think you are a free spirit overall when you are with the wrong person. And if you can't be yourself and if there are big lifestyle differences, this might be the wrong person.

So I literally just got engaged a couple hours ago. She is the first person I have ever felt I can truly be myself around, as I have been married before and also dated quite a few women. Our lifestyles aren't exactly the same as she is a big time introvert and I am not. However, she has no issue with me going out with friends without her if she isn't interested. We are together and live together, but are comfortable enough to also have our own lives.

That sounds like a dream situation. I think I just need to be more assertive too in terms of when I need my own time. It feels like I'm betraying her if I even just read text and text my own damn friends. Or afraid to just talk to them around her. A lot of this is being an introvert and keeping my life compartmentalized.

bsp77 posted...
So this is the crux of it. Is this because you can't completely be yourself around her, or do you want to go out and do whatever you want with whomever you want?

If the first, this is a relationship problem.

If the second, this is a you problem. Either you are having a hard time adjusting to a new life out of fear or something, or you just aren't ready to settle yet.

It's more of the first one, but kind of second one as well. Also, a lot of lifestyle choices going forward we don't see eye to eye with. But it's not like I want to break up and go on some dating romp with whoever and stuff. I've become more of a hermit and adjusting to someone new sounds anxiety inducing in itself.

I think I'm just a free spirit overall.

Something as simple as gaming with my buddy in evenings is hard when living with her. These past weeks my buddy and me have went through several games. Or just wanting to go take a walk when I want to or decide to eat whatever I feel. I can go play on my piano and make a song when I want. I'm saving money as well. Hell, deciding where to live eventually.

A lot of it may sound selfish, but it's just the whole ease of life becomes simpler when alone again. It's hard for me compromise so many things.

Sounds like if you don't, you might fall into spiting her for taking this feeling away from you once she gets back. I mean subconsciously, not to where you will purposely do stuff to spite her and be mean.

That's some really good advice and I can see maybe moments where I may have done actions like that. Not purposely mean, but maybe passively evasive or not entirely telling my feelings because of expected drama.

It's an overall mixed feeling and not because of her in many ways. I generally feel happy and comfortable around her, but it's like I lock a good part of me away in order to be around her.

Brostep, future bass, and trap edm from early 10s is quite different from present. All of them have splintered into various subgenres and fused. Early 10s Skrillex is already quiet nostalgic.

Chillwave influenced a lot of the bedroom pop sound. Stomp rock was at its hey day. Indie pop was in the mainstream. Electropop was at a peak. Hip-hop hadn't been entirely taken over by trap rap which itself has many subgenres now. Grime was still the urban UK sound and now it's all about UK drill. Reggaeton wad influencing moombahton. Witch house was underground but it did inspire

Overall, EDM of the early 10s was massive. The whole pop drop sound wasn't mainstream yet. Kpop was just becoming international.

Now there's a ton of genres that just wouldn't have existed just a decade ago.

I truly think early 10s music will get the nostalgic treatment probably in 2030s

I mean the 90s have been romanticized for awhile now. Lately the Y2k era is going through the phase. There's a whole genre/scene called neo-y2k right now. Hyperpop, surge, and hexd music uses a lot of y2k era sounds. Pop punk is getting big again.

It's most amazing imo. It's a perfect blend of a battle royale, 3D platformer, and arena fighting game. The actual platforming is smooth with all kind of objects to bounce on and verticality of a city environment. The fighting is super fun with great feedback. Then the battle royale element is good balance of enough working parts without being complicated.

The visuals are like Fortnite and Pixar had a baby. The actual map is super detailed with so many signs, storefronts, etc.. having a fighting theme. I can tell the developers put a lot of heart into this.

I hope it becomes a huge success because it really deserves it. I'm a huge battle royale fan that has played and at least won a match in every medium to big popular battle royale game. This is one of the best.

Classic rock is a radio format and nothing else. Artists that have been featured on classic rock stations are from a wide variety of subgenres.

60s - hard rock, blues rock, roots rock, heavy metal, psychedelic rock, folk rock

70s - funk rock, power pop, soft rock, glam rock, AOR, pop rock, southern rock, progressive rock

80s - glam metal, big music (U2), new wave

That's from at least the time I was listening to classic rock station in the mid 00s. Now some have included stuff like

80s - college rock

90s - grunge, post-grunge, pop alternative

Basically a format adhering to what was mainstream at some point. Classic rock stations steer away from most punk, metal, alternative, emo, and indie subgenres. Also, they tend to play stuff post mid 60s so never rock n roll, surf rock, rockabilly, garage rock, etc... Also don't expect rock music from non-Anglosphere like tropicalia, samba rock, Jrock, Andean rock, Afrorock, krautrock, etc...

So yeah a radio format. I was no lie in the radio industry at some point.

It really was absolutely stunning for its time. It was the first time such a huge library of certified classics came together for a soundtrack. Not only that, but the radio stations were designed in such an amazing realistic but satiric way to get you immersed. To top it off the formats perfectly fit with the location and sort of things you got involved with in game.

San Andreas was just as amazing in terms of the music involved, but a lot of the stations in that game had older non-90s music which took away the charm of Vice City which was pretty strictly 80s except for some of the Latin jazz music.

If Rockstar ever does the 90s again I hope they go all out. It needs to include actual 90s pop music station, eurodance, adult alternative, techno, trance, drum n bass, house, gangsta rap, grunge, alt metal, new jack swing, contempary r&b ballads, pop punk, neo-traditional country, pop rap, etc...

Mario's Missing in terms of a game you randomly see first time at a video rental place and bring home all excited. It was this bizarre feeling taking it home and knowing something was just off about it.

Yoshi's Story in terms of a game I was hyped about. I absolutely loved Yoshi's Island which I got at Xmas when I was 8 years old. So I looked forward to Yoshi's Story and had my mom rent it when it came out. I had only had N64 for half a year with Super Mario 64. Had rented other N64 games to that point and was full into 3D at that point.

Maybe part of dissapointment was Yoshi's Story felt passe because of the 2D gameplay, but honestly I think it was just how easy and short the game was. Rented it and finished it that very same day. It felt like a toddler version of Yoshi slap in the face to my 10 year old self.

Going back to today and it's not even a bad game. It's good in fact and super charming. It pales in comparison to Yoshi's Island which was a pinnacle 2D platformer though.

I mean it's been 16 years. When Wii came out 16 years before it was 1990 at the beginnings of the 16bit era which was no contest retro by 2006.

The 7th gen has every right to be considered retro especially when so many gameplay mechanics have evolved since then. There's been a ton of new genres, virtual reality, location based AR, decline of physical games, rise of indie games, and streaming becoming mainstream.

It's a whole different world of gaming. Seriously 2006 was a whole different world in general to 2022.

I just want to point out that "rock" in the broad sense long ago abandoned its early rock n roll roots which was the precursor subgenre built off rhythm & blues. By the late 60s you had garage rock, surf rock, rockabilly, merseybeat, psychedelic rock, folk rock, hard rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, etc..

Rock music has taken a lot of forms created by white people and to dismiss that is quite frankly an equally bad thing to do as much as dismissing black creators of genres.

Not to mention the huge main genres that are their own meta genres like metal, punk, alternative, and indie which are so detached from their original meaning.
