I think they had at best a mini movie (3-4 episodes) worth of content, but it was stretched to double the length. As fun as it was to hear the cast reprise their roles (and redo the Vol. 1-2 content again), it just felt really disjointed. It felt like Team NORA was there just because "Hey, we get an excuse to use Pyrrha because ...um...yeah." Otherwise, that group gets jack shit to do. The "Weiss World" stuff doesn't really strike me as all that interesting, but that's probably because they don't do anything fun with it. Vol. 9 has potential at least, because Neo exists. Vash still feels and sounds like Vash (JYB returning obviously helps), but it feels kinda...artificial or weightless. The original show had its stupid moments, but beneath it, you could tell something was brewing. I'm getting GITS 2045 vibes from this. It's only the first episode, so who knows. Just the crew partying and talking to their families and loved ones before losing contact (potentially forever). It was a powerful episode, and gave me more chills than any of the 5-6 previous eps did, all without any crazy space fighting stuff. Just like Ergo Proxy did with some episodes about nothing that succeeded in exploring the characters' daily lives and motivations, this one hit me hard. Yumi's is pretty good, if a bit slow in the middle. 5 has a better average across the board (Kawakami, Hifumi, Iwai), but they still have Oda. Oda sucks donkey dick almost as much as Nozomi does. It doesn't hit the heights Nanako and Dojima have. It's true they have a severe bias being essentially NPC main cast members, but still.
