Yes...I did not disagree with that. I'm saying brake checking makes the situation worse. 2 wrongs don't make a right. And I'm also saying the actual brake checking is the actual cause of the accident, in a situation that's already more dangerous.

This is literally what I'm talking about with those bad drivers. Just because they are driving cars, they can do whatever they want? Basically pointing a gun at everyone until they get their way. "Don't brake check" is one thing. "Get out of the way if you don't want to be tailgated" is an entirely different one.

"Everyone is responsible for their own actions" is a weird argument when we're treating some bad drivers as an unavoidable force of nature. Hell, by that logic, no one should go outside because you can't get hurt if you make the choice to not exist in public. Victims are to blame for not staying home.

You are responsible for your own actions. I'm no legal expert, but if I do something antagonistic to make you mad at the grocery store and you beat me to a pulp, I'm pretty sure you'll be held responsible for your actions more than I will be for mine. Your charge will likely be more severe, and we're both responsible for our parts.

No shit, but this is different than intentionally brake checking someone who is closer than you want them to be. One is emergency braking. Another is intentionally creating more risk to prove a point. If someone tailgates you at the same moment you have to slam on brakes for a dog, shit, sorry bro bad luck. In general, a tailgater can be ignored and everyone goes on their Merry way. And there's a decent chance you end up at the same place as the tailgater who is speeding anyway. So

However, I genuinely want to know. How does tailgating more than minimally affect you? When I've been tailgated, yeah it's annoying. But it doesn't stop me from forward motion, which is my goal. Then they go around me. Why make the situation worse than it already is by brake checking? I know you're not justifying brake checking either. But I do genuinely want to know how tailgating more than minimally affects your forward movement. I mean, you're not trying to slam into reverse are you? You also have side view mirrors and blind spot checks to change lanes if that's what your intention is.

No, it does not "minimally affect" people. It's dangerous and you should never do it.

I'm not denying responsibility for tailgaters. Them tailgating doesn't inherently cause an accident. Does it make the road riskier? Yes. But if you just keep doing your speed limit, you don't escalate the situation and they will go around you when possible. You slamming your brakes on them causes the accident.

Tailgating does not stop you from continuing to drive forward. If anything, it might block your rear view. Just as you say tailgating is dangerous and you should never do it. Brake checking is dangerous and you should never do it.

I don't get the justification for brake checking. The tailgater will pass you when they get the chance. So if you just maintain what you're doing, the tailgater will just go around you when possible. No need to make the situation more dangerous. Tailgating minimally affects you because they're behind you. They aren't impeding you from maintaining your driving forward. If there are cars in front of you, okay, slow down just as any normal person would. No need to brake check. "Oh but I might have to slam my brakes at any moment". Well, according to some people in here, you should already be at a safe distance you don't need to slam on your brakes like that.

Now if you're clogging a lane and not allowing people to pass for a long time, move the fuck over. Speed up a couple mph and get the fuck over. It's not gonna kill you. Or maybe it will.

Bruh. If a bully calls you a name, it's out of proportion to kill that person. Brake checking in response to tailgating is out of proportion. If someone's tailgating you, move the fuck over. Or at the very least, just maintain your speed instead of cause an accident on purpose. Maintaining your speed at least keeps the situation more predictable for both drivers.
