I think I enjoyed both films equally.

I think the pacing weirdness is just a signature quirk of the series.

Yes, this movie had that weird exposition break in the middle, but Kives Out did it too, just at the beginning. Having Blanc "solve" the crime 15 minutes into the movie was a bizarre choice and I remember people complaining about the pacing.

I actually liked how it was done in both movies, as it makes it different than your traditional mystery. As much as I enjoy those traditional "Murder she wrote" or "Sherlock" mysteries with predictable 1st, 2nd, and 3rd acts, my favorite thing about this series os how they change up the storytelling structure. It allows for more creative ways to tell the story and set up the clues.

For example, I love how the twist of the billionaire being an idiot was lampshaded throughout the whole movie, from his use of vocabulary, to his revelation that everything from the puzzle box to the mystery dinner was done through paid experts, his nonsense ideas he would send to the scientist that was questioned by investors, and even in the flashback when Andy's sister asked if Miles could have been the killer and Blanc was even like "it would be too stupid for him to do it, too obvious".

Honestly, Blanc's own personal reaction to the twist is one of the funniest things I've ever seen and made the whole movie worth it.

Seems like Knuckles voice is a little off but otherwise the show is pretty good.
I enjoy that they change his accent with each multiverse incarnation. Like his regular voice is very Knuckles-like, his sci-fi future voice has a Brooklyn accent, his pirate voice is obviously piratey, etc.

Then I looked it up and he actually gets entirely different voice actors in each universe!

Haven't seen Cyberpunk, only Arcane. It's definitely not as serious as Arcane, though they both have that "gotta save the world in a sci-fi future" vibe, along with the flashbacks.

Delta_Force posted...
I hate the flashbacks to fill in the gaps left by the beginning of the first episode.

Other than that, it's ok.

Also I miss Sonic Boom Knuckles.
I like the flashbacks. They tell the story like a puzzle, with each flashback fitting into the theme of the episode. Reminds me of Arrow that way. I honestly prefer this Knuckles over Sonic Boom Knuckles. I wasn't really a fan of the heavy comedy in Boom. I like more of an adventure aspect.

The flashbacks are also thr only way we could keep seeing the original side characters and not just their dopplegangers.

Tenaku posted...
Not liking the frequent flashbacks, and I can't remember anything important about the jungle arc, it just felt like filler. And I wish we got to see more of the main cast more often, not just their shatterverse selves.
Yeah, the jungle are didn't do anything for me. The sci-fi arc seems to be the dominant arc. I also think the pirate arc has potential with how it ended. I'm sure we'll be seeing Pirate Knuckles again.

This show does the characters really well. I love their portrayals of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, and especially Amy. The voice acting is pretty good as are their mannerisms seem faithful to the games. Love seeing Knuckles using his climbing and gliding abilities, Tails carrying Sonic, and the retro 16-bit flashbacks that allude to the games. And although he hadn't had much screentime yet, Shadow has also been great. "They're Air Shoes."

I love that the show is set in the games' official continuity, and the multiverse plot allows for some fresh new takes on the characters, including a badass Tails, Android Amy, and Pirate Knuckles.

The only downside so far is how short the first season is. I look forward to Seasons 2 and 3 (24 episodes have been confirmed)

Anyone else watching it?

While its definitely a stretch to assume ALL locations have a tryrannical rule and enforce stupid rules, the fact stands that no other gym gets this much complaints.

I dont HATE it because I have no personal involvement with this gym, I just thought it was amusing that they are like this.
The best thing you can do is just look at their website for a factual answer. Their published rules allow just about anything to be worn (heck, they even explicitly say bras as tops are okay), they have no restrictions on water bottles, they don't mention the lunk alarm anywhere I could find, and nowhere does it mention pizza or free food giveaways.

I'm not saying any of these things don't happen anywhere, but these are not (at least nowadays) official stances of the company.

I pay $10 a month for Planet Fitness and most of your post is not true.

- They don't serve pizza or bagels... ever
- I have never heard the lunk alarm in the entire time I've been there
- Yes there are free weights and the weights go pretty high
- The judgment free zone is true. I take fitness classes there and if I go a while without coming to class due to work or whatever, the trainer won't give me a hard time about it (unlike other gyms where the trainer is like "where you been" or "consistency is key")
- My gym ranges from fitness newbies to "lunks" to Instagram models (who sometimes are filming while at the gym). Everyone is pretty chill and no one really cares what anyone else is doing as long as they're respectful
- the gym is an amazing deal for the price... the price even includes a free personal trainer which I utilize

Planet Fitness is only a meme because of its commercials back in the day. People keep trying to stir up drama for no reason and either exaggerate any lone incidents on individual gyms or fabricate stories entirely.

Generally, when people make these types of comments, I feel it is more nostalgia talking than an objective statement. Like, nostalgia is a hell of a drug for a reason. It makes us see mundane things with rose colored glasses because we associate it with happier times. It's easy to assume that things were better as a kid because we didn't have the level of responsibilities we donas adults, and it's easy to conflate that to the lack of technology.

Technology has not made people less social. It just gave both social and unsocial people new avenues to communicate. I am involved in my community and our local parks are filled with kids playing basketball and volleyball. Our mall (yes, we still have a mall) has teens walking around and watching movies at the theater.

And interestingly, technology has given some kids even more opportunity for engagement. I have served as a judge for robotics and drone competitions. Those things are a blast, man. These school gyms fill up with kids and families and The atmosphere is truly amazing, especially as these kids break out these cool contraptions and share with everyone about them.

I also teach Minecraft coding classes, and we get classrooms full of kids who normally stick to themselves in their room excitedly talking about their builds with each other.

We even teach social media influencing classes and all the social kids come together to share ideas about how to act on camera.

Technology is only a tool, not an outcome. If anything, Ibwoupd argue we have become more social since technology, not less.

Not only that, but in the second movie they accidentally cook a stripper alive at Fester's bachelor party. Lurch accidentally put the stripper in before baking the cake. Upon realizing this, and a moment of awkward silence, they just shrug it off and continue partying.

You're not wrong. I work for public safety in my job and the way the cops handle rape/stalking/harassment is appalling with how they victim blame and hand wave things.
Interestingly enough, colleges are much more prepared to deal with sexual assault cases than the police because they actually have trained Title IX investigators who are crosstrained in law, counseling, trauma response, investigations, and evidence analysis. They take rape cases much more seriously than cops usually do (because oftentimes the people that apply for those jobs were sexually assaulted themselves or have a family member who was).

They tend to be so pro-victim that the federal government stepped in during the Trump era and created rules that gave alleged rapists more rights at college campuses than they had before, claiming that current college investigations were stacked against them since the standard for being held guilty in a college investigation was much lower than in a criminal one.

It's kind of odd how often colleges either tend to under react to crimes as severe or overreact.

And almost never seem to handle these things appropriately. Just let the police handle it and avoid the outcome of either everytime.
As someone who has worked at several colleges for many years, what you see in the news are a drop in the bucket of the number of cases like these colleges deal with.

The actual rate of successful investigations is much higher than you likely think. It's just that those don't get reported in the news because what's the point?

Colleges are required, by law, to publish their crime statistics every year. You can go to any college website and find them. You would be surprised just how much crap goes on at colleges, especially when you put all these young adults living together as they are still learning who they are (plus crap college party culture).

College conduct and investigation offices are working 24/7 dealing with issues, and most of the time they all get resolved satisfactorily. It's the few high profile cases that end badly that only show up on the news, so that's what people tend to see.

With that being said, I do see a trend of more issues at the high profile schools like Sanford and Harvard. Not sure if they truly have more unresolved issues, or if the media just focuses on them more due to their status.

I wanted to like the show. As you said, it had all the pieces for another hit like Superstore. Heck, Melissa Fumero's character is basically a blend of Jonah and Amy.

But the actual Blockbuster store takes a backseat to the obligatory forced romance/shipping plot that sitcoms have to have. Even in the pilot episode they are trying to get the two leads together in a will they/won't they plot. They rushed too quickly into that. They don't have any chemistry and I have no reason to root for them.

And the background character lines feel too forced, like they are just waiting to deliver them cause the script calls for it. The first scene of the show is a customer dealing with a breakup and every character has to get their two cents in within those first two minutes. It's not funny, just cringey.

I'm hopeful this show pulls a Parks and Rec and finds their groove after a lame first season. It really just needs some plotlines that better use the actual setting of the store instead of generic crap no one cares about. The only laugh I've gotten so far was the quadruple date.

Topic7 year old murdered in foster care
Zanzenburger

I was a foster parent. The worst part about the system is that they put in these unreasonably high standards for foster parents to prevent things like this from happening, but they still happen anyways. And then all foster parents suffer due to the big brother style monitoring.

For example, we were written up in our monthly check-in visit because our house smelled like dogs. Well, we had three fluffy dogs, which every case worker knew about when we first applied to be foster parents. Our house is kept clean, but every dog owner knows that smell doesn't fully go away unless you are cleaning 24/7. And their visits are usually unscheduled, yet we got written up because of the smell of the dogs. And two writeups under this system meant you had to take a remedial parenting class, three writeups they take your kids, no other chances.

Meanwhile, biological parents are given second, third, and fourth chances that they don't take advantage of. The girls we were fostering were all abused (with the oldest sexually abused), yet it took more than a year for the dad to lose his rights to them and the mother still had an opening to take them back if she just attended a parenting class she refused to take. Yet we almost lost them for good because we had dogs.

Zanzenburger
10/23/22 10:30:08 AM

TSA Precheck is absolutely worth it for $85. My wife and I got it three years ago and it has made flying a breeze. Since we regularly fly out of airports like Orlando, Atlanta, and Dallas, shortening the line wait to 5 minutes or less takes away so much stress from flying.

As others have mentioned, another perk is you don't need to take off your shoes or belt, and you can leave your laptop in your bag. You can also go through the regular metal detector, not the full body scan machine. The process is less invasive due to the advanced background check you go through when you initially sign up (basically when you enroll, they do a full check on you to ensure you are a low risk flyer and don't need the additional hurdles, or a "precheck" if you will).

One way this has really helped is during layovers. When stuck on a 4-hour layover, we used to get stuck in the airport since we didn't want to leave and get stuck with the hassle of going through TSA again. Now we get out at the layover, go to a local restaurant or museum, then go back in time for the next flight, again only a <5 minute precheck line.

I think the three biggest obstacles for people not getting precheck are:
1) They have no idea what it is or how cheap it is to get
2) They don't travel enough for it to be worth it
3) You have to go to an airport in person to enroll. For a lot of people, taking a whole day to make an appointment, drive to the airport, pay for parking, find the TSA office, go through the full enrollment/background check process, and then wait several days to several weeks to receive approval is too much of a headache for people.

Due to a condition in my blood, I qualified for those free camps for sick and terminally ill children. I went for like 5 years. Was a surprisingly fun experience. We'd do fishing, derby car racing, scavenger hunts, cabin rivalries, talent shows, mountain hiking, etc. It was basically a normal camp like you see on TV except they would have occasional medicine breaks for the campers. I always felt out of place there since I was the healthiest kid there but I enjoyed the activities so I brushed it off.

Now our church hosts VBS every summer so we get campers from the community for weeks of activities with different themes.
