As it is, excess production just powers someone else's house, and then you use off the grid at night.

After reviewing my own songs, I admit I am getting a smidge antsy. The 1/1's will be going tonight. Not going to list them, but there's five. Plenty of other songs to support if they aren't gaining traction, though.

PSA for anyone who's new this year or last: The waning minutes of nominations on Saturday will be incredibly active. Songs that previously looked safe will not be. The "bubble" is currently at 2/2, meaning songs with 2 supports from 2 different users have a chance but no guarantee of making the field. (Above that is in, below that is out, but 2/2's will be a question of tie-breaking.) The bubble will probably move to around 3/3 in the lead-up to the madness, at which point people will begin abandoning their 1's and 2's to help dictate which songs get in. And then there will be enough 4's that 3/3 will stop being safe...and then cut from the field altogther...and then dropped by everyone in order to support the 4's that are now at risk. A high degree of funneling takes place here.

In ye olden days of VGMC, this was simply how it was. The point of locks was to grant security to these situations. If your song hit a certain threshold, you didn't have to worry about the bubble moving past your song you assumed was comfortable at 5/4 with a sudden surge in the cut-off line at the end. Last year, we fully locked the field instead, which was similar in how it played out, but not the same since it was dictated by a checkpoint rather than the passage of time, and not everyone knew to be present for it. There might be another smaller rush in advance of the lock deadline tomorrow night, too.

The cannibalizing has already begun, but trust me, you ain't seen nothin' yet. If you don't have other plans, prepare to be here for the last hour, if only to watch the fireworks.

Kinda early to be dropping 2/2's, isn't it? If we closed everything now, most 2/2's would get in. They're still "competitive."

Just my opinion, but I'd keep them until 24 hours out. If that's what you meant by "soon" -- since that is tomorrow evening -- then carry on, nothing to see here. But I think you're going to see tons of 1/1 drops today and that might mean people buoying some 2/2's and 2/1's in response.

I considered that, but then I realized that you're basically banking on a massive natural disaster or surviving armageddon. I'm not going to plan around the apocalypse, and whether or not Mother Nature wrecks your shit is dependent on where you live. I suppose if you live in, say, hurricane alley, it might be worth discussing. Hurricane Isaac blew up this way and devastated the area, leaving us without power for close to a week, but in these parts we call that a hundred-year storm. It's a pretty expensive investment to save yourself the comfort of having power for a few days. (And my street was one of the last to get power restored because our power lines were going to take the most work to put back. Most people were up and running much quicker.)

If you're the kind of person who would like to have a bunker or tons of ready-to-eat rations in case society completely collapses, then sure, it probably fits your mentality such that you would 100% want to do that. Otherwise, not so much. Batteries are mostly for if you live somewhere where you can't use the grid as battery because you don't receive any credit for selling your energy, because then at least you can use your own energy at night.

Or at least this is my minimal understanding of the subject. Please correct me if I'm underinformed.

Oh no, I make no pretense of such. Most of the quotes I have are around 20k, and have a "profit" of 25-40k after like 20 years. If I took that same money and invested, I'd likely have gained 200% profit by the end of 20 years since that only takes ~5.5% interest.

It will pay for itself eventually, so I'm not just "frivolously" throwing money at something for the sake of the environment, but making use of renewable energy is my primary intent.

My father would roll over in his grave. He was an electrical engineer, a tinkerer, and a radio hobbyist. I could not possibly exaggerate the number of antennae we had on our house and in our back yard.

Anyway, thank you to anyone who provided (or will provide) input. I did a little minimal research last night, and there's still a ton I don't know, but at least I can hopefully steer the conversation where it needs to go. Notably I need to ask about just how important a battery is for me because it feels like it might just be dropping a dime on a feature that isn't super important.

I had the version featuring Outpost...which was another game by Sierra that I also had...and was much too young to understand and appreciate. It seemed really hard to me, but I probably just didn't understand "don't spend all your resources instantly" because the game wasn't good at communicating stuff.

What's the significance of cloud gaming here? I'm not familiar with UK law, so I don't know how it compares to US rules of preventing monopolies, but I fail to see how that would make a difference here.

I've played a couple other Pinball games. Pinball FX2 and Pinball arcade for sure.

Full Tilt! Pinball is still my favorite (the game with Space Cadet in it).

I'm not familiar with full tilt, but if space cadet came with other tables, I'd probably have liked it a lot better. I just wasn't enamored with that particular build and would have liked other options.

I didn't care for Sonic Spinball. A game that strangely reminded me of it, even though the ball doesn't turn into an anthropomorphic hedgehog, was 3-D Ultra Pinball from Sierra (which was apparently Denji's favorite.) Both had a very complex, daunting three-region table to try to achieve objectives in.

if you have 6 of them, I see no reason not to R5 one. As a general rule, the only reason I can think of not to refine is that you genuinely want the weapons separately, but there aren't many weapons you'd want more than 2 of. FavGe maybe, but certainly not Rust.

The plan was to do the roof first. It's advised in some places to do them at the same time-ish.

There is absolutely no way in hell I'm putting solar panels on the current roof. If I had to somehow choose new roof with no solar or solar on old roof, it'll be the former.

Hypothetically. I'm still trying to figure this all out, so if anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it. Ever since I bought my house four years ago, with the awareness I'd need to budget for the roof, I've had it in my head to do this, but recent talks about slashing federal tax credits prompted me to look again. Someone had a topic about solar a couple years ago, and I tried to pay attention then, but from my own research at the time, there were so many terms and so much stuff that confused me that I just shut down, overwhelmed.

Fast forward to a couple days ago, and I gave my information to a neutral party that finds contractors, and after giving them some additional info, five quotes instantly materialized for me. So, like, I'm floored that they had that kind of turn-around. But a guy from the site called me like an hour later, before I knew the quotes were there, to ask if I had questions, and I'm like...uh...can we talk tomorrow after I look at these? It's a giant pile of information, though, and very little of it that I understand beyond the ones with dollar signs in front of them.

So tomorrow, I'm gonna talk to the guy and I hope I have half a brain to ask about the things I need to know.

I have a moderately small, south-facing roof, with no particular concerns with the power company and no EV. I'm sure I can "save money" long-term (if one ignores the interest on the money invested) and it offers protection against black-outs, but environmental factors are my biggest motivation. None of the quotes discuss replacing the roof, and they're all in the $20k range, plus another $10-15k for a battery. I know it's advised to look for a company that appears like it'll still be around in 10 years, but everyone's offering at least a 25-year warranty. (less on the battery)

saying Space Cadet is the best pinball game is like saying Windows Solitaire is the best card game. You might get agreement from anyone who's never played anything else, but to not be able to name one preferred option if you've actually played others seems unlikely.

Maybe a reference to the bump battle system? I still would hardly call it pinball, though.

My sister's name was Mary Susan, and she was anything but boring. That doesn't mean the name wouldn't be. (Also, Ivanova is more imposing because of her last name, which everyone calls her.)

He's the MLB all-time leader in hits, and his transgressions (betting in favor of his own team) are far less scandalous than anything that directly taints the sport with doping or sign-stealing or use of sticky substances to get an edge. As a player, he was known as Charlie Hustle because he embodied everything about succeeding via effort. He wasn't necessarily the greatest athlete, but he succeeded because he had heart...it's just that he's not the sort of Disney-esque feel-good personality that you normally associate with that trope, and for that, it's hard to feel bad for him.

Unimposing names need soft sounds. Kate, for instance, is the exact opposite of unimposing and is used for a number of heroine characters in novels. But it also needs to be something that doesn't stand out as remarkable, like, say, Robin, which makes you think of the bird. And, of course, anything not super common is going to stand out as well.

If you're just looking for someone to blend into the background, a name like Jennifer can work.

Full disclosure on My Dark Disquiet: This is a licensed track. It debuted on a Poets of the Fall album in 2018, 9 months before Control released. Unlike The Poet and The Muse or Take Control, MDD was not written for the game. Therefore, it cannot be judged by those standards. However, the album it was on only charted in Finland, and MDD was not a single from it, so Poets of the Fall are somewhere in the direction of Faunts (artist of the ME credits), where technically they're a known entity, in theory, but they are best-known for contributing songs to Remedy Entertainment games. When I presented all this to deo, he said that nominating was fine. If you believe this interpretation is invalid, that's fine and I'm happy to discuss it, but no need to bring this up as if I am unaware, and if this gives you pause from supporting, that's your decision.

I have rarely found an in-game card game that has merited more than a passing notice, and usually they end up being a nuisance. Oh boy, let's go play more triple triad so we can finish our collection!

My favorite was Arcomage from Might and Magic VII, which I would actually choose to play rather than continuing with the game proper.

I'm relatively new to glasses, but I was told to avoid abrasions, so no, I only use a microfiber I have at home. Thankfully I'm past the phase where I'm perpetually smudging them with fingerprints.

I have Cyno, Dehya, Nahida2, and one other that I can't recall. Character quests, you just gotta be in the right mood for. I was trying to rush some of them like a month ago (without rushing them) but that was as far as I got.

The thing that's annoying is that the triggers for them lie in wait to ambush you unless you just don't activate them, but if you don't activate them, you perpetually have a notification on your main screen and your activity wheel. (Then again, I have one on my character menu, so you'd think I'd be used to it.)

This kind of depends on the context/formatting of where it's being posted.

This came up when I was looking at a list of video game music, about 15 songs in a row, and they were all listed Song - Game. I found it incredibly difficult to parse because in that situation, what game the song is from is far more valuable than if it's called "Main Theme" or whatever. Most VGM uploaders write Game - Song, but a few do Song - Game and it sticks out like a sort thumb to me.

However, since not everyone here listens to primarily game music, it only made sense to extend the argument into mainstream music as well, where if you remember the days of naming files, you'd get stuff like Justin_Timberlake_-_The_Essential_Ballads_-_01_-_Cry_Me_A_River.mp3. Obviously that formatting is hardly relevant any more except as a legacy, but I still think it makes more sense to list the source before the title because it gives you a starting place, even if you aren't sorting your song library.

Not asking for how it would be cited in a bibliography or whatever. If you see a song name, which would you prefer to see?

This won't be a popular opinion, but TitS eventually grew thin on me, particularly with its combat, and the last straw for me was when I missed a sidequest because they lock after certain checkpoints and I literally went from being offered the quest to having it locked before I ever returned to town.

I played ToCS later and found the mechanics and fluidity refreshing by comparison. I'd like to know what happened in the stories of the earlier games, but it wasn't important enough for me to go back for them, especially when Sky takes place over 3 games. I didn't even play all of Cold Steel, either, pausing somewhere mid-second game and never finding the momentum to return.
