No doubt we be having the conversation again the future, but less often as time goes on.

Let me put it like this, lets say it went into effect today. Now you have be licensed (current licenses update), age limit goes up, and mental health checks are needed and all guns are Registered making red flag laws more effective.

We would have a spike in shooting sadly due to violent people panicking. They have get their plans done now. That happens no matter which scenerio we run. After that, we start seeing the gun violence reduce over time. Instead of a mass shooting every week, its now every few months. Then once a year as we make more adjustments to better the law and protect people. Its not perfect, but it is progress. In the end only those properly trained and able mentally should have firearms, while those unlicensed will be arrested as caught.

Compared to a blanket ban, again you see the sharp spike of shootings (and likely worse to be honest), and then hit the largest roadblocks. There is no accurate registry and who goes around collecting them. If you pull it off, you eliminated 99% of gun violence(nothing ever goes perfect) I admit, but the roadblocks are massive and hard to overcome.

To be fully fair, my solution does lead into the blanket ban being effective, so if that became needed, it would be more doable.

I'm actually in favor of the drastic solution. It's harsh but the irresponsibility and lack of competency when it comes to gun ownership has taken this beyond a simple need to enforce gun ownership and into the realm of making it impossible to own one.

To me it falls into punish everyone, even if they werent the problem. Ive been around firearms my whole life, have a license to carry and even was able to teach pistol training and safety at a time through the NRA.

Ive kept a clean record, have training and capability to teach it, and even do take care my mental health. I want the violence to stop, but is punishing everyone the only path that will work is the question. Hence why I suggest raising the age and have a national license, it limits access in a good way, cause right now there isnt much barrier.

Doing nothing obviously isnt working, so maybe switch it up!

My Suggestions are simple, increase age to purchase all firearms to 21, require a federal licenses (all licenses to carry count for this and would be updated to this license automatically)) before purchasing, and registry for firearms. Add in mental health checks as a requirement for license approval and renewal (every 2-4 years).

While this wont stop all the shooting it would drop it lower.

But sadly we are likely either have to suffer and die with this forever, or its going full gun ban. Either way ends bad in my view, 1st keeps status quo, 2nd mass outrage and loss of a right to own a firearm.
