No, actually. From a sustainability standpoint it's the opposite. NFTs produce nothing but cost energy, while high quality watches have and will last multiple lifetimes if taken care of. Opposite of energy wasters or disposable technology. The secondary market value is crazy right now because demand vs supply and current trends. But as a product a watch can be a beautiful piece of art. The fact that you're saying they are NFTs without looking any further except at secondary market value, and then ending with "I get it now, thank you" just goes to show how ignorant and immature you are. Zero perspective or understanding for something subtle yet magnificent at the same time.

the first thing I have to say is that I am probably one of the few people qualified to tell if your watch is real or not and by golly, it looks real!

Its all about the details in the movement, which seems to be hand made, without using those steel brushing tools that give swirls to the steel. The jewel placement and color seems right, but the most telling feature about it is the small engravings in the movement, the golden letters, the + -, etc.

it does seem odd that most of your posts in CE are about your watch collection, your watch acquisitions, your motorcycle, your expensive dinners its a bit odd. Nothing wrong with sharing that, but it seems its most of what you post.

3) what do you do for a job? You obviously have a good amount of disposable income to have 2 rolex, a speedy, a brietling and a Patek.

1. Yeah, it's real. What else can I say about that lol.
2. Honestly those are my passions. My expensive dinners I've posted here are all self cooked. I adore cooking food and making new dishes. Motorcycles are also a passion of mine, or generally the act of traveling around Europe or crossing the Swiss mountain passes with motorbikes. Ditto for watches, for which I've recently started getting articles published. Just passion, no more, no less. Like I've mentioned before, last watch I posted here was a sub $200 Orient bambino which I love no less than my Pateks (wearing while I write this, actually)
3. Honestly I got into watches way becore the craze (past 6 years it's become mainstream so prices went up) and I'd buy watches I liked, but I'd also pull the triggers on models I knew would be classic. I further my collection by buying and selling. This Aquanaut, I bought it only with money I made selling other pieces from my collection. Sold a Rolex explorer 2, 2 Tudors and a vintage Navitimer to fund this one. All of which I purchased well below market, and they'be increased post purchase.

I have a collection of nice watches myself. Nothing priced at 65K though. I share your passion. I just refrain from posting about it because I don't want to come of as an insensitive braggart.

Honestly when I speak to people around me who may not know I'm into watches the way I am, I do worry a bit about how I come off. So most of the time when I'm asked about the price I'll just say something tongue in cheek instead of spewing numbers. People are judgmental and immediately think because I'm wearing a watch that they couldn't afford, I must be doing it to show off or think I'm above others. This isn't the case at all. This is why I prefer posting about it online in forums, FB groups (not on my home personal feed!), IG, or even here on GFAQs, because I can write 2-3 paragraphs about it rather than get cutoff mid second sentence "ah shut the fuck up you're just an arrogant douchebag, admit it". It's pretty annoying, there's nothing snobbish for me about it. I just really like them.

Looks sleek. Some of us have expensive hobbies when we have disposable income. TC is one of the 1% of CE and some of these posts are bitter lol.

It's all good, I totally understand the sentiment. Spending that much on a mechanical, technically superfluous item is definitely not rational. But hey, it's my hard earned money, and if it puts a smile on my face, why the hell not?

By the way: I'm spending money I made from selling 4 other watches from my collection which all gained between 100-300% in value depending on the model. Just consolidating because quality > quantity. That, and I can only wear one watch at a time. I owned 12 "expensive" ($3k and above) watches and now I own 9 (sold 4, bought 1)

All good man, I love legos too. Btw there are watches worth less than 200 that excite me just as much as a Patek does. I write watch articles, first one was about a 50k watch, second was about a $40 watch I bought for my daughter. I love watches in every price range.

Pocket watches are VERY VERY slept on. I guess it's because you can't wear it, so people can't show them off like with wristwatches. There is some seriously amazing stuff for extremely low prices for that reason. I love pocket watches. They tend to be in very good condition too, by sheer nature of not having them out on your wrist, they don't get damaged and dinged and so on.

Bought my first Patek almost exactly a year ago. I even posted about it here, response was a lot better than this topic (not that it bothers me at all tbh! I love a bit of controversy!). Got on the list about half a year ago, and got it yesterday. Extremely fortunate, yes, but Patek basically have infinite amount of customers. The stuff sells itself, there's waiting lists for almost every single model, so their job is to be selective with the customers, to prevent flippers and whatnot.

As a hobby I also started writing articles about 4-5 months ago about luxury watches which started getting published by big names in the industry. The boutique where I bought my first watch caught on and I suppose the passion was obvious. So yes, very lucky to have gotten it! Over the moon!

I'm very very careful, but a ding here and there just makes it my watch, so I don't mind too much. First scratch hurts the most.

Oh yeah, and I'm more of a movement quality guy. I vastly prefer it when the value isn't in gems or metals, but in the movement quality. So stainless steel all the way. 20k won't even get you a gold Rolex, and Rolex is ~2 leagues below this watch.

You're missing something. The Patek Philippe Aquanaut is the most recognizable watch at this price point. The AP Royal Oak or Patek Nautilus are even more iconic, but they're 30k and 60k respectively. Are you talking recognizable like a Rolex? Like a Daytona or a Submariner? Those aren't 20k watches, and honestly it'd be like comparing a Mercedes to a Ferrari. It's a completely different type of watch.

Nah, I have my phone for all that shit. This one just tells the time and date. Sometimes it's nice to use something mechanical these days, especially if it's also beautifully made and nice to look at (subjective, of course).

You'll probably end up with more value by keeping it and waiting until it gets discontinued (with this one likely in 1-2 years judging by when it came out) at which point you'd probably make 30-40k in a day.

Basically demand is way higher than supply. Waiting lists can be up to 10 years, by then the models become discontinued for the next model. It's the same with certain extremely exclusive cars, not exactly rocket science how a rare, high quality, in demand product can increase in value if there's a demand for it.

Aftermarket sales for watches is a whole other than compared to retail. Most trade for below retail of course, but as mentioned, certain very highly sought after models trade for higher than retail. When we talk about vintage models in good condition, some of those may have costed 3-4000 at retail and are worth in the 100s of K today.

Yeah, of course the argument of "my watch can do more and costs way less". If your watch is quartz, it's probably also gonna be more accurate than mine! But as a watch lover it's not about what it does, it's about how it does it. And the Patek Philippe tells the time and date with incredible style!

So as the titles says, I bought a Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A, that has a market value of around 65k. It's basically a diver's watch by the greatest brand in the industry. Luckily I only paid retail, which was 20'500 Swiss Francs which is around $22k, but market value is triple retail, the whole industry is a little bananas at the moment (clearly). This particular watch and a few other classic by some other big names in the industry have a considerably higher demand than supply, so market value tends to trade higher than retail for those.

So I know I was super fortunate to have the money and be able to buy it, yada yada. But as a hardcore watch lover, this Aquanaut is quite a milestone. The fit and feel is amazing, rubber strap and watch head have a seamless transition that makes it super comfy to wear. Case is just over 0.3 inches so ultra thin. Movement is automatic, with a display case back (see pics). The overall finishing on the case, bezel, clasp, movement is second to none. Really happy with it!

Prep:

Leave it on the counter for at least 30 minutes, but it depends on the thickness. For a very thick piece, 1 hour may be necessary.

Salt and pepper right before it touches the pan. I get my cast iron or stainless steel pan very hot, if the piece is thick I might go 10-15% below the highest heat possible.

Important: I use an instant read thermometer. Every other technique hasn't yielded consistent results, a thermometer ensures the result is always exactly what I want it to be. Medium rare for a ribeye, sirloin, filet, skirt, etc.

1. Veggie oil in when pan is hot
2. Salted & Peppered steak in
3. Flip once after 1-2 minutes (again, depending on thickness)
4. After flipping, 1-2 pieces of garlic, butter, rosemary and/or thyme
5. Baste the steak with the aromatic butter for 2-3 minutes
6. Flip one last time and leave it on the pan for another minute
7. Remove from pan and place onto plate, covering with aluminum foil for up to 10 minutes

Good call on the Orient Bambino! Got one in December and have been wearing it even more than all my other watches. I love a great bang for buck watch. This Orient Bambino Small Seconds blows me away when it comes to value for money. Fantastic piece.

I'd say watches. I absolutely adore watch collecting and have a collection worth around 150k by now. It's a little crazy but luckily the value has steadily climbed since I started collecting.

Only drug I'll consume here and there is weed, but it's hardly an addiction...

Probably because he was being a piece of shit to the cop after the cop told him not to eat on the platform. Plenty of cops are assholes, but people are fucking horrible to cops as well. I'm sure if the guy apologized, stopped eating, or left the platform to finish whatever he was eating, none of this would have happened. Most likely the cop wouldn't even have asked for his ID. I'm surprised I even have to explain this to you.

While it's very fucking stupid, that sign is there for a reason. If it says not to eat at the platform, why are you eating? He didn't get arrested for eating a sandwich, he got arrested for refusing to give his ID after he was confronted by a cop for not following the rules that are clearly displayed.

It's stupid, the cop overreacted, but the biggest idiot in this story seems to be the sandwich eater. How are people surprised when they are confronted for breaking rules? As far as I know, those rules aren't there for decoration.

Ngl I'd watch that. Seems pretty damn interesting to say the least. It seems to have propelled him to mild success after the show, so good for him.

If you're talking about Brazilian Ronaldo, I completely agree with you. That guy was the fucking GOAT. Messi was of course more effective because he "lasted" way longer, but at both of their peaks, I'd say Ronaldo is the undisputed best the world has ever laid eyes on.

Yeah, that comes down to personal preference. I have made pizza with more sauce but was never as happy with the result as with less sauce.
