Art's interesting. I don't think I like FE art for the most part, so Engage actually gets kinda high for its good battle animations and general glow-up. I can't stand character design that focuses on school uniforms, so the first arc of 3 Houses is pretty low for me. The second half of 3 Houses is nice, though. Awakening and Fates have messy art direction, especially towards the generic enemies. I can't stand Awakening/Fates armor knights.

If I had to throw together an art list, it would be Echoes > GBA > Tellius > Engage > 3 Houses > Jugdral > Fates > Shadow Dragon/New Mystery > Awakening

I don't really get the arguments that Engage is this huge blow for the series. I feel like every FE game feels completely different in terms of gameplay, strengths/weaknesses, aesthetics, etc., even for those that are direct sequels. I wasn't expecting something that builds up on 3 Houses, because why would I? Engage has a lot of strengths where 3 Houses was weak in.

I guess the main takeaway is that IS should make games more like 3 Houses than Engage, which I'm completely fine with. I never expected Engage's Emblem Rings to ever come back and I much prefer the story and characters of 3 Houses for projects moving forward, anyways.

East vs West

Philosophers is such a joy. Team battles and entirely historical battles are just inherently more interesting to me from the beginning. Each phase having their own style to it (together vs. 1-on-1 vs fighting each other) makes the entire rap super memorable. And, of course, the final phase is funny, memorable, and appropriate to end it with.

I'm so glad King vs. Poe got this far. I think it's easily the best 1v1 battle. Both Poe and King have a really distinct style, but both of their flow is just really good, with no awkward pacing in the rap. My only issue is that the battle feels a little weighted towards King because he has more verses. Also, small thing, but I really love the random screams in Poe's verses.

Got up to Chapter 11.

I had a feeling that I might lose my rings. Anti-shoutout to Alfred having 974 SP before this chapter. I did 1 skirmish and he ended up at 995 SP. Jesus. I hate skirmishes so much that I didn't bother to do a second one. That said, I'm likely benching Alfred so it's all moot. Also, really regretting not making all my units gain Level 5 proficiency with Leif so that they have more promotion options.

One thing I noticed that Engage does is that the new units they give you are pretty dang good. Usually, I try to stick to my starting crew and maybe pick up a new unit every now and then when one isn't working out. In Engage, I feel like I have to revaluate my entire crew each time I pick up a new unit. Definitely makes me want to do a second playthrough, which I will probably do once all the DLC is out.

Pokemon Stadium (Melee)

I love the Regicries video. It makes the Lucario movie where they show up one of the better Pokemon movies. They have such a distinct sound.

You should try out New Pokemon Snap. It is truly an upgrade on N64 Snap on all cylinders. Probably my favorite Pokemon game in a long time.

Finished Chapter 5 and Paralogue 1 on Hard. Pretty good so far. I'm not used to the low movement of everyone in this game.

I have a few questions:

1) Is there a way to see the Type Bonus for the ring bonuses or do I just need to try it on each different user?

2) How does Back-up work? I thought it works like Attack Stance from Fates, but Boucheron shows up to attack sometimes even when he's nowhere near the attacking unit.
