We've got R13, R16 and R18 here (along with ratings like T and M that aren't actually binding on who can or can't buy it, they're purely advisory).

I recall hearing a couple of cases where movies got slapped with an R15, but that doesn't seem common.

I dont think games of Google Play go through the ESRB. There are games on there rated Teen that have hardcore anime sex scenes.

They prob use the automated process.

Well it's defined differently. The US has had the M rating (17+) for decades which covers most everything that falls under "18+" in other countries.

AO is not meant to actually be "18+". It's meant to be the "refused classification" thing from other ratings boards, but they decided to give it a name for reasons and don't really care that it it's a misnomer.

Go to the Google Play store and look up gambling apps you'll see TONS of AO rated apps. So not quite the kiss of death for apps, I hear and see this advertized all over TV and radio.

Love how an 18+ rating is such a taboo in the US.

I find it stupid as hell, 18+ games are sold in retail in every other country with no problem, in the US they are forbidden pretty much. The only country that has no 18+ rating for games is China theirs stops at 16+.

R18 isn't the kiss of death, that is only AO in the US, Australians wanted the R18 rating along with retailers there. It is sold with no issue, minus one place where they have to give games generic covers with only titles, but still, they can be sold in stores.

PEGI does the same thing already.
