Has that always been the case, because you would think having a show in the can would make sense.
I know I'm late on this, but this has always been the case. If you've ever seen Evangelion and wondered why the last two episodes were like that, it's largely because of the scheduling and the pressure that caused. This isn't the only problem with the industry, either. The crazy thing is that this underpaid and overworked culture in anime production began with Astro Boy back in the 60s. So yeah, for 60 years actually working in anime has been pretty terrible for many people who do it. It's honestly hard to believe that the entire industry hasn't collapsed in on itself, but working yourself to death is a part of Japanese culture in general.

I really didn't think two people would be this purposely dumb, but okay, I guess I'll bite. In the previews for both the game and the show the main girl is obviously not biracial. Even if you weren't paying close attention (like me) you'd still see that difference and think "oh, this girl is going to die, isn't she?"

There, I explained what should easily go without explaining.

I didn't exactly stare at the cover. I actually didn't pay much attention to the previews or anything either. I had a general idea of what the main girl was supposed to look like and so yeah, really didn't realize they were two different characters at first.

Good stuff.

They managed to make the opening section as harrowing as it was in the game.

Also liked the John Hannah bit at the start
After watching I'd say... almost. I'm for diversity in casting, but this is not an instance where it worked. I remember the first time I experienced TLoU and I didn't realize the girl at the start (Sarah) wasn't going to be the girl throughout the story. So when that happened in the game, I was gutted. I know few people are going into this show as blind as I went into the game's story, but they really, really shouldn't have made that change. Even my friend who hadn't played the game realized that Sarah wasn't going to be the main character because of her skin color.

That aside, if this first episode represents what we can expect going forward (haven't seen ep 2, waiting for friend to be ready) I have hope for this series.

Blistering fast. Relentless. Even when they give you a moment to catch your breath, they still go hard. This is ten hours of sonic assault in a 26 minute tracklist. If the CIA wanted to use Western music to torture Guantanamo Bay prisoners they should have chosen "No Control." I absolutely love it.

  4. Henchman
  5. The World Won't Stop

Not really a fan so I don't know the situation well but...

Wasn't Giant Bomb started by people who had lost their jobs in the industry? It seems they've always had survival instincts there and other than this Jason fellow that is sick, I'm betting most will be fine and some my be better off. Given how often people use gofundme to pay for medical bills maybe the community will even come though for him.

I know many people will be sad to see the company go, but the people involved have so many options now that didn't exist when the company was founded that I don't think this is the last we'll see of them as individuals, even if giantbomb does collapse.

Whether or not he can taste is absolutely irrelevant. Baking is just chemistry you eat. Some professionals will literally use boxed mixes because the notion of "cake" has an actual scientific answer to it, and 100 years of experience making a simple chocolate cake gives you a product that tastes virtually the same as Betty Crocker. If he can get the instructions and follow them, he can make a delicious cake. Since the rules say no instructions are available but he does get all of his tech, he can bake a pretty cake, and it'll be delicious

As a multi-rapper vid I do agree that the directors makes sense and is top notch, and I even get why they end with a douche who is just about the money and not the art. The one thing that I have always felt was missing, for me personally, was Kurosawa. I know that those four minus Bay is somebody's Mount Rushmore of directors, but mine is not complete without Akira Kurosawa.

Jobs vs. Gates - Yes, the final verse is weak, but Jobs just peacing out in the middle to "turn heaven a profit" is something that just can't be topped for me. Still, either winning would be fine by me.

They filmed this show primarily in my city, and I watched the first episode mostly to see if I could recognize anything. I couldn't for the most part, so they did a good job with set-dressing and post-production. I actually watched them film one scene right outside the building I work at. It was when Sarah rode the city bus after school. That bus circled the block for like an hour, and they had a bunch of extras outside doing the same actions every time it passed. In the actual episode, for that part of the scene (from inside the bus when Sarah was leaning against the window) the camera was so focused on Sarah that you could only barely see blurry buildings outside lol. Those poor extras wasted a day for nothing. This anecdote is probably quaint to people who live somewhere where lots of filming happens, but this show was a pretty big deal in Calgary.

Anyway, the episode itself was fine.
Eh, they got paid. Considering the fact that extras typically get $100-200 I'd say that was worth the hour spent doing the same thing every few minutes for an hour.

I'm not against smoking weed, obviously, if that's what you mean by waving my finger. I just find it ridiculous that he would imply that I'm juvenile for pointing out there is absolutely a drug culture around the band and they not only don't hide it but also play into it. If the band knows this and vaguely encourages it then it's not really juvenile to discuss that aspect of their music, is it?

This guy. Calls me juvenile for calling Tool out as a pothead band, then immediately names two songs that blatantly make drug references... in their titles! Boy, you sure made me look foolish. *facepalms*

Also, as someone who casually likes the band, if you played those three (or four) songs for me in, say, one month... I wouldn't be able to tell you which was which. In fact, if you played all three in a row I'm not sure I'd be able to identify when one ends and the next begins.

If they legitimately put as much work into this album as the others I named I would be dumbfounded. This album feels like they had learned over the years what elements of their past songs were popular with their fans and just stuck really close to those few elements.

Last thought - I probably should have smoked some pot before listening to this album. It is meant to be listened to while high, no doubt. The problem is that the album that proceeded it was also one I'd say the same thing about, except so much more work went into making those songs. I think that Seanchan said all of these songs "glom together" and yeah... if you're not a "true" fan of the band and any song of this album plays you could be forgiven for mistaking which one it is, or even which album it's from. It definitely sounds like "Tool: The Generic Album That Defines Our Sound." I literally just put on Lateralus and one song in it's absolutely the sound of Tool, yet The Grudge isn't so damn generic and bland as most of 10,000 days. And when I put on AEnima, well that album actually has a self-realized identity compared to 10,000 days. You, and by you I mean the fans of Tool, you will not take half the length of the track to figure out which song you are listening to on Aenima, no matter how high you are. That's compared to 10,000 Days where you could listen to half the album and not know which album you're hearing.

/Rant

Like the recent She's So Unusual this is an all time great pop album. Funny enough, they were released within a year of each other. The difference here is that I don't know if this is truly MJ at his best. Most musicians would be thrilled to have as much success as this one album throughout their entire careers, but it can be argued that maybe Bad is even better. Regardless, this is an album everybody should listen to and, well, if you haven't heard the majority of these songs what rock have you been living under?

Beat It - I can never hear this song without hearing Weird Al. That's a good thing in my book. Just a really, really great track.

Thriller - The title track, the song that we all came here for. If this song doesn't make you want to dance I can't imagine what would. The Vincent Price voiceover is awesome. The music video is still inspiring artists in a post-MTV world. Immortal.

Billie Jean - She's not my lover either. These days I feel this song is a bit over played on the radio, but when I think about how MTV almost didn't play it because MJ was black - it brings a little tear to my eye. Can you imagine how stupid they would have looked if they held their ground. But hey, no one can say Michael Jackson didn't help change the world for the better.

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' - Fine enough song, but I don't think I know what he's trying to say here. I mean like... "you wanna be startin' somethin', well, well you're a... you're a vegetable!" Mamase mamasa mamakossa indeed, Michael. Yeah, how did anyone ever question if he was "bad" enough when these are his fighting words?

Human Nature - This may seem low ranked but this and up are the songs I will always enjoy. Most musicians wish they had this kind of depth.

P.Y.T. - This song gives me mixed emotions. Trying to ignore allegations against him that were never proven... this song is a banger. However, "trying" is the key word here.

The Lady In My Life - This song is just okay. It is very obviously a song of its time, and came before MJ really knew exactly what his strengths were (not this).

Baby Be Mine - Weak sauce. Sounds like a rejected Jackson 5 song that was "updated" for his adult solo career 10 years later.

The Girl Is Mine - The more time that passes the more I realize that Paul is probably my least favorite Beatle. I don't like his post-Beatles output, and his presence here is no different. Rather than elevating the song with his rock god stats he instead makes it the worst track on the album.
