The problem was how they overhired to start with. There was no thought or planning to it. I saw it myself with teams I recruited for that just hired with no plan for growth or long term. Companies treated people like commodities and planned extremely poorly. Not all though. Also many companies right now dont need to layoff as theyre still very profitable but they see a trend going and want to jump on the bandwagon to cut costs.

Yes, I'm not so good at articulating these sorts of things.

Anyways Techs golden ages are likely over now, and the days of them hiring a abudance of useless people to do essentially redundant ad hoc task for 6 figures are done.
You clearly understand very little.

Were at over 100k employees in tech that have been laid off in the last 3 months. Over 50k in January alone and the month isnt over. They are not useless people. I know several who have been impacted and they are some of the hardest working people I know. They just no longer serve a purpose to the company they were at. My friend who was laid off had full weeks every week and would work late hours all the time. She gave her heart and soul to Google. But whatever team she was on was deemed to not generate enough revenue. She was just a number on a spreadsheet. Her boss didnt even know she was getting laid off and called her crying because she was a top performer.

So what IS the exact same reason for layoffs? Is this preventive over the looming recession to protect profit margins? Or lower demand?
During Covid there was a big surge in company profits as people stayed home and consumed more. They saw record breaking gains. And so companies started hiring like crazy and many bet that the surge would continue post Covid. As a recruiter, those times were insane. I was highly desirable with dozens of companies trying to poach me weekly.

Now that things are going back to semi normal, companies arent reporting the crazy high earnings they had which is causing stock prices to dip and investors are unhappy. So they are just reducing workforce to appease them. Its disgusting and we are all just expendable sheep for slaughter.

Makes me feel really nervous that this will happen to me too. I work in tech. My company already had layoffs but many companies are having second rounds lately. I was hired last month because they wanted someone with specific experience in certain tech that is niche that I have. They had over two thousand applicants and I only had a foot in because I knew people on the team. But whos to say what were working on wont get canceled.

It has its pros and cons. As others have mentioned, you dont get paid those hours banked if you leave.

On the positive side, you dont have to wait to accrue vacation time to take it or worry about how many sick days you have left. I have unlimited PTO at my new company and was able to take last Friday as PTO to do my citizenship interview no problem. At a company with accrued PTO I would have been unpaid for that.

We might have just found the perfect babysitter. We have been interviewing a few and inviting them for trial babysitting where they come for a few hours and we show them around, leave them with our girl and see how they do and how our girl likes them.

One was pretty good but a bit overly loud. Like more loud than our kid. Which was fine since we mostly want someone for date nights and wont be home anyway. But we do want someone for days where daycare might be closed but we need to work and I could hear her screaming from upstairs. I like that she has high energy and super playful with our girl. But she goes to school out of town and isnt available much.

One kept calling sick or rescheduling so we dropped her.

Another asked for more money than all the others but during her trial didnt show much interest in our daughter. She kinda just sat around and also kept chatting up my husband. And when Id come get a snack or something shed stop talking to him and act weird. Then Id leave and shed be back to chatting with him. But paid almost no attention to our daughter. My husband is very nice and talkative with people so its easy to sit around and chat with him but most babysitters know to balance that with interacting with our daughter.

Another was pretty good. A bit shy and more reserved but our daughter took to her. But same deal where she goes to college out of town and is only home occasionally.

This one lives within walking distance and just finished college. She wasnt shy but not overly loud either. Our daughter liked her a lot as well. Pretty open availability.

We havent had date night together in so long and we want to start having them regularly again. So Im really excited about this one.

My daughter is 20 months and knows a little over 80 words and a few short sentences. But she can get shy around others and not talk. At her 18 month appointment, I was told she needed to know 20 words and she knew less than 10. But her language just exploded after.

Some kids learn sooner than others and it depends on the child. My niece wasnt talking much at 3 years old and barely knew her colors but now cant stop.

5 year olds not speaking much is definitely a cause for concern, provided they werent just being shy. Id say its worth getting a speech therapist if the child isnt hitting milestones by 2 though. It can only help.

I feel like Im at where you were where I feel like mine is falling behind on communication (13 months now)

Hes really good at playing, walking, starting to use his toys the way theyre meant, but it feels like he should be a little farther along with sounds. He sort of babbles mama and dada sometimes but its not always clear whether he actually wants us or is just making sounds

i guess they all grow at their own pace
That was her. Shes always been ahead in physical milestones but wasnt saying much for a while. At 13 months she barely said dada and not mama. At 18 months she knew dada, mama, baba (for bottle) and a couple of animal sounds. But she understood me and would take directions (like go get your ball, go get your bear, etc) The pediatrician expressed some concern but said wed wait for the next follow up at 24 months and shed need to be at 50 words then. My mom kept telling me not to worry and that kids can be like computers, its all stored in there and will just come out. And thats what happened with her. I know its easier said than done but try not to worry about it.

Wife has been out of town since Thursday, so just been me and the baby this weekend chilling. Feels like she's going through a growth spurt though cause she's just been sleeping a lot.

Yeah, that's probably me also, I want to try to become more active in how I play with her. But I also like seeing her entertain herself.
Yeah my husband is better at physical activities. He tries and takes her on hikes when its nice out. He even got a little backpack to carry her in.

But Im getting frustrated because I feel like he can be irresponsible at times. I dont know if its just me. But today I have a really bad migraine and have been in bed trying to get better. Hes just had her alone in the living room with the TV while hes watching TV in the office. On top of that, I went down to get lunch and she was sitting alone with her lunch unsupervised. I think 20 months old is still too young to leave alone like that with food. So Im sitting down watching her finish despite feeling awful and wanting to lay down. And I know if I say anything to him hell blow up at me and make me out like Im overprotective.

Help please (her daycare teacher told us she said this for the first time last week)

Its funny that at her 18 month appointment our pediatrician said she should know 20 words and she didnt know 10. I got worried shed have a speech delay. And now shes at over 80 words and some sentences nearly 3 months later. Im excited for her to be able to communicate. But I also know once she knows how to talk shell never stop lol

Thankfully not. Honestly, I would have nope'd out immediately if they had. I definitely wouldn't give out any sensitive info like that.

And yeah, it's reasonable to just criticize the practices of the company even if they are legit. The entire thing seems very peculiar and gives me a pretty negative opinion of what they'd be like if I were to work for them. The fact that they seemed really surprised and put off that I had plans already on a Saturday when we hadn't discussed the second interview at all up to that point is a pretty shaky sign for what they might be like to work for.
Listen to your gut. Ive ignored my gut in interviews and it came back to bite me after. And yeah the Saturday interview is extremely bizarre.

Have they asked you any sensitive information like your SSN? Thats usually a tell. They may also try to get you to pay for your equipment or something similar with promise of reimbursement.

I havent been scammed but many scammers have posed as companies Ive worked for and they can get very sophisticated by copying an open position and pretending to be a recruiter from the company.

Even on the off chance this is a real company, it doesnt sound like the kind of company youd want to work for anyway.

Things are really started to get fun now. She was having a lot of tantrums and being defiant with me, but shes now starting to understand consequences more so Im able to maneuver things better.

And shes just so much fun now. Shes playful and energetic. Listening to me more. And if not then I can usually get her to do something out of her own choice instead of forcing it on her. Shes so attached to me now she grabs my hand and plays with me and doesnt let go. Just a bubbly ball of fun most of the time and the tantrums are getting better. Of course well see how that continues when she gets to two.

But for now things are a lot better than a few weeks ago when I was about to lose my shit.

Three months of IUI and $7000 later, we got a positive test this morning. Went in to the fertility clinic for blood work and HCG level was 121 which the doctor seemed thrilled about. She goes back in Thursday for more blood work to make sure it keeps rising.

First pregnancy was October 2020 after about three years of trying naturally and we lost it at six weeks. Second was April 2021 after five months of IUI and she was a stillborn at 25 weeks.

Staying with the fertility doctor til 10 weeks then switching over to a high risk doctor for the remainder of the pregnancy

Before the insemination she had two good eggs when they measured so theres a slight possibility of twins lol

If it happens and its a boy and a girl Im getting snipped
