You ask me, that and being pleased people are upset is what's really sad. An argument can be made if boycotting this game affects trans rights or not, but trans rights are a serious issue right now and not just trivial internet whining.

There are actual laws trying to pass and being passed that would cut off medical care and literally kill people. Its a very unfriendly climate for people to be trans in; in this kind of climate, yeah they paddle as hard as they damn well can in order to not go under. It's hard for someone to go "it's fine, my life isn't actually in danger from trans rights issues". Like a black guy stuck in the deep south seeing a kkk convention, it's hard not steer clear.

There's a difference between an upstart studio and a studio that largely produced shovelware for two decades and was shut down. A good way to view it; studios known for well made open world experiences like Rockstar and CDPR both have had very high profile failure for very hyped up games. Cyberpunk in particular springs to mind. Even though it worked out, it had one of the worst launches of a game in recent memory.
