Just because I often lean conservative, it doesn't mean I condone this awful behavior. But other things I believe also as a conservative: * "A woman's body is her own fucking business" - as quoted directly from Jay in Dogma. * I also believe racism still very much exists - and it unfortunately comes/goes to/from every direction. * And I also believe conservatives have jacked up Christianity very much. Nowhere in the New Testament (and I've read it many times) did Jesus ever promote hate - he was the most forgiving and inclusive person in the entire Bible. * And I believe guns have gotten out of control. And yet despite all that, I still lean conservative. We're not all bad; but many of us certainly are. I consider myself socially moderate but fiscally conservative. I don't believe the government can fix all these issues... people need to own it and grass roots the efforts like the counter culture environment in the 60s. They're only mentioned in the gospels which are frankly worthless as establishing his actual historicity. The evidence for Jesus is pathetically flimsy. Mind you the arguments for mythicism have no smoking gun I can point to, just lots and lots of little "Huh, that's weird" things that when you string them all together paint a picture of a preexisting angelic figure who was later turned into a man, like Romulus, Osiris, and others. --- In simplicity, utility. As I have said everytime this debate comes up, as far as I am aware, all non biblical mentions of Jesus are just people saying "Christians exist as a new weird religion. They worship some guy Rome executed" That doesn't count as proof of Jesus. It's just proof that those people heard the stories And furthermore people who should be able to tell us real facts about the man like Paul are completely silent about him. It is worth noting that the overwhelming majority of historians who work in the field are literally contractually obligated to say that not only Jesus was real but also their personal savior. Among secular scholars the consensus still favors historicity, but is significantly weaker. It should also be pointed out that even just 30 years ago the consensus among scholars was that Moses was historical, whereas now you have to go to a specifically theistic scholar to find anyone taking that position.
