My brother is like that. Tells me just to be happy... Like I don't want to be happy. Luckily I'm doing better.. finally got into a psychiatrist, got the right meds. Had a sleep study and have sleep apnea so I got a CPAP machine and it's giving me more energy because I'm actually getting quality sleep. Which helps me get outside more, get stuff accomplished. My life has definitely changed for the better the last couple months.

I've started using my electric shaver more since I got a CPAP machine. The face mask wasn't sealing good with my beard so I shaved and it's just easier to make a few passes with the electric one every day.

Doesn't get it as close as as a razor but it suits my needs for now. Will likely shave once a week or so with my safety razor just to be extra smooth.

I used to fish about every day but have slacked off over the years. I'm fortunate to have a great fishing location less than a five minute walk from the house. I used to go and catch dinner there from time to time..

As I've gotten older I only care to fish for trout. I don't make it to the mountains all that often but used to go for opening day of the season every year and camp. Nothing like waking up freezing and wading in a small stream and catching breakfast.

As I've gotten older more of my time is spent watching TV. I have to make it a point to read more... Which I'm currently doing. But when I was younger I was just outside constantly. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, camping. Hell, I'm only 34 so it's not like I'm terribly old. But it's easy to get into a routine... Local news while cooking supper, national news at 6:30, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy next. Star Trek after that. Then it's time for bed.

When I was younger and not outside I gamed a ton and read, too. Used to read a book a day in highschool (300-400 pages minimum). But now it takes me forever to finish just one. That's on me, though..

Good morning...

First, a little backstory.. An uncle hid a real chicken egg for me and my cousins once and told us whoever found it would get $50. True to his word, he paid my cousin fifty bucks. It's one of my best memories from my childhood.

I've tried to emulate that with my kids, nieces and nephews and some of cousins kids. I usually pay out $100 for one egg, $50 for a second, and $20 for a third. I mark each egg with a number, hiding the one marked with 1 in a harder to find spot. And so on...

But, I always talk up the prize. One year I told the kids the number 1 egg was worth 100 Grand, the 2nd was a nice pay day, and the third a $20. Of course I have out a 100 Grand candy bar as well as a Payday bar. Then I have them the real money... They loved it.

Last year I said the grand prize was $500, and I gave the winner a $500 bill from Venezuela in addition to the American $100.

So, with all of that being said... I've racked my brain trying to think of what to do this year. Any suggestions? Again, all in fun and they still get money. But they enjoy trying to figure out the prank now and I enjoy doing it. Any suggestions?

ye, good pt. But i read, vaguely, that most americans do believe in one. Does that matter to you?

Nah. People can believe what they like but it doesn't make it true. I could be wrong but don't think I am.

I mean, at one point in time the majority of Americans were okay with slavery. It's easy to distort things, especially with religion, to justify beliefs in anything.

If there were a deity why don't they reveal themselves more often? With Christianity's God, for example, why no discernable involvement in the present day? I think of the Israelites when Moses was receiving the ten commandments. Unless I'm not remembering correctly they saw the parting of the Red Sea, received manna from the sky to sustain them, and suddenly want to create another god at the base of the mountain? Like, if God was real and the writings were valid, what human that encounters something so divine would deviate from what that deity wanted? It's a stretch for me to believe any of that really happened the way it's presented.

That tangent aside... We don't understand a great many things about the universe. Based on what we have discovered and from my understanding of that there's no way there's a deity or an afterlife. Maybe I'm wrong. But I just can't accept it rationally.

Also, there's a spot on my parents property that is awesome. There's a large creek (big enough to get a canoe in and technically only a few miles short of being a river, just to give an idea on the size) that has a bend in it. I love sitting on the bank there and look at that bend, and there are a ton of rocks there too. It's my favorite place to go to when I just need to get away and reflect.

Sucks that they're seeming to be more excited about a fourth kid as opposed to your first.

My parent's favor my brother's kids way, way more than mine or my sister's. Then again my brother and his wife aren't the best parents and if it wasn't for my mom and dad they wouldn't get a chance to do anything. They take them to the park, out to eat, on trips, stuff like that. Used to really bother me because it's like my kids are getting the shaft because of someone's else's bad parenting. But it's ultimately better for the kids.

My in-laws have absolutely nothing to do with my kids. See them at Christmas and that's about it. My mother in law puts forth no effort. With my wife's dad I kinda get it, as he had a stroke and never fully recovered.

Try not to let it get to you. Just be the best parents you can be. It's their loss.

Definitely. Fortunate to have a great independent station nearby that plays tons of classic rock with very few commercials. They play stuff I've never heard before on a regular basis, lots of live recordings, stuff like that.

I have a Uniden scanner I monitor for local police, fire, etc.

And another portable that receives the air-band. Another for the 2-meter ham bands. Usually always some chatter on there. Plus short wave. Hear some crazy stuff on there with just a small portable and a long wire. Farthest I've picked up is Belgium all the way over here in North Carolina.

Plus AM DXing is great. Listen to a lot of baseball games that way.

Insurance is a joke. I can see my doctor for a routine appointment (which I have every three months) and pay a cash price of $94 if I pay same day. That exact same visit with my insurance is about $250, plus what I'm paying for insurance every month. Even if I deferred and didn't pay same day it would be $150, a full $100 less.

With Good Rx I get my medicine almost as cheap as my insurance price (again, not including what I pay for insurance). I spend $120/month on my medication. Would be maybe $130 without insurance.

Seriously considering dropping it...
