Yep, it can be very brutal at times.
That particular scene us rough, and I don't normally balk at books.
I've not read many other pieces that made me that uncomfortable. Notably kite runner, which is fare more tame in comparison.

I read a lot of horror so unfortunately I've seen a lot of uncomfortable stuff, though I try to avoid authors that confuse shock with fear

I get it but at the same time, I don't. Other than people who are active online, most people have no idea Rowling says the things she does on Twitter so they don't connect the two things. It's more like naivety to the situation more than not caring about trans people.

Case in point: I wouldn't have any idea what kind of things she stands for if not for CE. It's not really a topic of conversation for most people.

I definitely get that, and I don't believe you're a bad person for buying the game. But it's disappointing how many people are completely unwilling to take even a minor inconvenience for the sake of marginalized people.

I've read the first book but not the second.

The part you're about to read is infamous for making readers feel physical disgust, and many people I know had to take a break from reading afterwords.

Rest assured though, Bidithal gets what's coming.

There's actually a pre-history trilogy about the Tiste by Erikson. Phenomenal writing in it too. Would recommend.

Trans rights in my area are thankfully not a problem. It's other states, as well as a severe lack of federal protections, along with people like her being allowed to support terrorist groups like Libs of Tiktok and Gays against Groomers.

I believe law isn't morality and shouldn't guide your actions especially in cases where it's so clearly fucked up and I believe applying force to defend people is appropriate when peaceful methods don't work or aren't appropriate.

Because (thankfully) Rowling isnt selling the rights. Love her or hate her, if she sold rights to WB or especially Disney, there would be fifty new movies being made and the entire Potterverse would turn into Star Wars.

Therapy is therapy and not being able to afford to legally alter your state of being to increase the perceived effectivity of said sessions shouldn't keep you from going.
