Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who plays the title role in Kraven the Hunter, revealed in a pre-taped greeting to CinemaCon 2023 that it will be Sonys first R-rated Marvel movie. The studios Spider-Man and Venom movies as well as Morbius have all been rated PG-13.
Sony presented a roughly two-minute teaser trailer from Kraven exclusively for CinemaCon attendees, meaning it wont be released online. The footage has tons of gruesome kills in it as Kraven takes out poachers and mercs, think Logan, Rambo or John Wick-levels of bloody violence.
The footage showed Russell Crowe as the Russian father of Taylor-Johnsons Sergei Kravinoff (he speaks in an American accent). The very end of the footage reveals Alessandro Nivola is playing the Rhino. The skin on his arm starts to transform into rhino skin. There's also a very brief shot of Sergei holding up the classic fur costume Kraven wore in the Marvel comics.
Whether Kraven the movie will, like Morbius, connect in any way to Sonys larger Spider-Man franchise remains to be seen.
Kraven the Hunter debuted in Marvel Comics Amazing Spider-Man #15. He considered himself the greatest hunter in the world and deemed the wall-crawler the ultimate prey to catch. Taylor-Johnson previously said he liked playing Kraven because hes "not an alien, or a wizard. He's just a hunter, a human with conviction. An animal lover and a protector of the natural world."
The actor also called Kraven "one of Marvel's most iconic, notorious anti-heroes" and "Spider-Man's number one rival."

Former Professional Wrestler Charged with Theft of Millions of Dollars in Federal Funds Intended for Needy Families
A federal indictment was unsealed today in Mississippi charging a former professional wrestler with misappropriating millions of dollars in federal safety-net funds intended for needy families and low-income individuals in Mississippi.
According to court documents, Theodore Marvin DiBiase Jr., 40, of Madison, along with co-conspirators John Davis, Christi Webb, Nancy New, and others, are alleged to have fraudulently obtained federal funds including from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program that they misappropriated for their own personal use and benefit.
Davis was the executive director of the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). As part of the alleged scheme, after federal funds were issued to MDHS, Davis directed MDHS to subgrant the funds to two nonprofit organizations, Family Resource Center of North Mississippi Inc. (FRC) and Mississippi Community Education Center (MCEC), which were operated by Webb and New, respectively. Davis then allegedly directed Webb and New to award sham contracts to various individuals and entities purportedly for the delivery of social services, including at least five sham contracts that were awarded to DiBiases companies, Priceless Ventures LLC and Familiae Orientem LLC.
As further alleged in the indictment, under these sham contracts, FRC and MCEC provided millions of dollars in federal funds from MDHS to DiBiase and his companies for social services that DiBiase did not provide and did not intend to provide. DiBiase allegedly used these federal funds to buy a vehicle and a boat, and for the down payment on the purchase of a house, among other expenditures.
DiBiase is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, and four counts of money laundering. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the conspiracy count, a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count, and a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and for each count of money laundering.
The FBI, HHS-OIG, USDA-OIG, and IRS-CI are investigating the case.

Two people have been arrested by the FBI on allegations they helped operate an illegal police station for the government of China in lower Manhattan.
The two are charged with conspiring to act as agents for the Chinese government. The FBI said Harry Lu Jianwang, 61, of the Bronx, and Chen Jinping, 59, of Manhattan, were arrested Monday morning at their homes in New York City.
"The defendants worked together to establish the first overseas police station in the United States on behalf of the Fuzhou branch of the (Ministry of Public Security)," the FBI said in a statement.
In addition to the New York complaint, two other complaints were filed - one against 34 members of Beijing's Municipal Public Security Bureau, and another against a group of 10 people that includes eight Chinese government officials.
The common thread in the three complaints - that the suspects allegedly worked to intimidate, harass and threaten "wanted" Chinese nationals inside the United States.
Last November, the FBI said it was aware that China was operating a de facto police station in Manhattan, outside of proper procedure or authority, as part of global network of such outposts. It followed a Sept. 2022 investigation by a nongovernmental organization, Safeguard Defenders, which reported there were dozens of such centers worldwide conducting police operations.
Chinese officials decried that characterization, saying the "service centers" were volunteer-run and had nothing to do with policing. But the New York Times reported in January that Chinese state media had explicitly described the centers as policing facilities, acting in other countries without collaborating with local authorities. The Times also reported that the FBI had searched the East Broadway facility in the fall of 2022.
"This case serves as a powerful reminder that the Peoples Republic of China will stop at nothing to bend people to their will and silence messages they dont want anyone to hear," Kurt Ronnow, acting assistant director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division, said in a statement.

A 78-year-old woman with two past bank robbery convictions was arrested again for a third heist in Missouri, police said.
Bonnie Gooch walked into Goppert Financial Bank and allegedly handed a note to the teller demanding thousands in cash.
She also left a note saying "Thank you sorry I didn't mean to scare you", before driving off with the cash.
Gooch now sits in jail with a bond amount of $25,000 (20,129).
Wearing a black N95 mask, black sunglasses and plastic gloves, she entered the bank on 5 April and slipped the teller a note that said, "I need 13,000 small bills", according to court documents obtained by the Kansas City Star.
Surveillance video shows Gooch at one point banging on the counter, mandating a speedier delivery of the cash, prosecutors said, before leaving in her Buick Enclave with its handicap registration displayed.
Pleasant Hill Missouri Police Department officers responded to calls of a "robbery in progress" at around 15:20 local time (21:20 BST) and found Gooch in her vehicle smelling strongly of alcohol, and cash strewn across the floor, prosecutors said.
Gooch was arrested and charged with one count of stealing or attempting to steal from a financial institution.
"When officers first approached her, they were kind of confused ... It's a little old lady who steps out," Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright told the Kansas City Star. "We weren't sure initially that we had the right person."
However, this is not Gooch's first run in with the law.
She also has two other convictions. One for a robbery in California in 1977, and the other for a bank robbery in 2020, where she reportedly handed the teller a birthday card that had "this is a robbery" written into it.
Her probation for the 2020 robbery ended in November 2021.
Mr Wright said Gooch had no "diagnosed" ailments, but due to her age, the department is trying to determine if any underlying health factors could have contributed to the incident.

April 7 (UPI) -- A Swedish man broke a Guinness World Record when he consecutively cracked 46 different joints in his body.
Guinness World Records said Olle Lundin, 23, broke the record for the most continuous cracking of different joints, besting the record of 40 set by Kamal Pokhrel of Nepal in 2022.
Lundin said he spent months practicing cracking his joints in order to determine the most effective order. He said he had to learn to move slowly so as not to accidentally crack a joint prematurely.
Lundin said some joints were painful to learn to crack.
"The most painful joints were probably the smaller joints, such as the 'middle' joints on the fingers and the toes in general," he told GWR.

A Nebraska state lawmaker has embarked on a series of filibusters in protest of an anti-transgender law conservative lawmakers are aiming to pass, stalling all bills in the current legislative session.
Democratic state Senator Machaela Cavanaugh has filibustered every bill since the start of 2023, signaling her opposition to a bill that would ban gender-affirming surgery for transgender youth under the age of 19 that is on the legislative agenda, according to The Washington Post.
The Nebraska state legislature is on track to debate just 30 of the 820 bills that were introduced this session, and Cavanaugh the first Nebraska state senator to adopt the blanket filibuster strategy is showing no sign of folding, per the Post.
"This bill legislates hate and targets trans youth," Cavanaugh told The Post.
The bill, LB574, would bar puberty blockers, gender-affirming surgeries, and hormone therapy for young people.
In Nebraska's 49-member Unicameral legislature, 33 votes are necessary to end a filibuster. So far, there have not been enough supporters.
"I will burn this session to the ground over this bill," Cavanaugh told her colleagues in a February session, according to the Post. "I have nothing but time, and I am going to use all of it."
Cavanaugh's protest filibuster is also blocking five other anti-trans bills, as well as a bill that would ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, but she said that her priority is LB574.
"The dream would be for the bill to die and for us to move forward with the work of the state," Cavanaugh told the Post.
Senator Kathleen Kauth, who introduced LB574, told the Post that lawmakers were ready to have "debates all night" in order to find ways around Cavanaugh's protest filibuster.
Nebraska is just one of many states currently dealing with the nationwide push to legislate the types of medical care trans people can receive.
The American Civil Liberties Union tracker of anti-trans bills in the 2023 legislative session has so far identified 273 bills, many of which are concentrated in Republican states like Texas and Florida.

A man who spent more than 38 years behind bars for a 1983 murder he did not commit was declared innocent by a judge in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Maurice Hastings was released from prison last year after long-untested DNA evidence pointed to a different suspect. The judge in October vacated Hastings conviction at the request of prosecutors with the Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office and his lawyers from the Los Angeles Innocence Project.
Prosecutors and Hastings lawyers returned to court to ask Judge William C. Ryan to take the additional step and declare him innocent of the killing 40 years ago.
The judges Wednesday declaration of Hastings as factually innocent means the evidence proves conclusively that Hastings did not commit the crime.
It means a lot. Im grateful for the judges ruling, and the apologies everything has been wonderful today, Hastings said after the hearing, according to the Los Angeles Innocence Project. Im ready to move on with my life. Im a happy man today.
District Attorney George Gascn said Hastings survived a nightmare.
He spent nearly four decades in prison exhausting every avenue to prove his innocence while being repeatedly denied, Gascn said in a statement. But Mr. Hastings has remained steadfast and faithful that one day he would hear a judge proclaim his innocence.
Gascn said the ruling will clear Hastings name and pave the way for him to seek possible relief in connection with his wrongful conviction.
The victim in the case, Roberta Wydermyer, was sexually assaulted and killed by a single gunshot to the head, authorities said. Her body was found in the trunk of her vehicle in the city of Inglewood near Los Angeles.
Hastings was charged with special-circumstance murder, and the district attorneys office sought the death penalty, but the jury deadlocked. A second jury convicted him, and he was sentenced in 1988 to life in prison without possibility of parole.
Hastings maintained he was innocent since his arrest.
At the time of the victims autopsy, the coroner conducted a sexual assault examination, and semen was detected in an oral swab, the district attorneys office said in October.
Hastings sought DNA testing in 2000, but at that time, the DAs office denied the request. Hastings submitted a claim of innocence to the DAs Conviction Integrity Unit in 2021, and DNA testing last June found that the semen was not his.
The DNA profile was put into a state database and matched to a person who was convicted of an armed kidnapping and forced copulation of a female victim who was placed in a vehicles trunk. The suspect, Kenneth Packnett, died in prison in 2020, prosecutors said.
Hastings, who was 69 years old when he walked out of prison last October, told reporters at the time that he had prayed the day of his freedom would come.
I am not standing up here a bitter man, but I just want to enjoy my life now while I have it, Hastings said.

On February 19, 2023, at approximately 5:00 am, a group of suspects approached a house on Gibson Crescent in Milton. It is believed that these individuals were intent on committing a robbery at this home. Upon entering the residence, they were confronted by an occupant and a number of gunshots were fired within the home. One individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, while two other individuals were arrested when police arrived.
Halton Police have laid the following charges in relation to this incident:
Ali Mian (22) of Milton one count of 2nd Degree Murder
Romario Clarke (20) of Oshawa one count of Break and Enter, and one count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Both are next scheduled to appear in Milton Court on February 21, 2023.
The identity of the homicide victim has not been confirmed as of yet. This investigation is ongoing and detectives are looking for information on three outstanding suspects that fled the scene in a white vehicle. The vehicle is believed to be a light-coloured Dodge Charger with a sunroof and black wheels. A photo of this vehicle is attached.

A Miami day care is receiving backlash after parents accused the private child care provider of dressing children in blackface to celebrate Black History Month.
Courtney Politis, whose children are enrolled at Studio Kids Daycare, said another parent notified her of a photo of toddlers whose faces were painted with black face paint.
She calls me and shes like, You wont believe the photos that were sent to me from this classroom, Politis told NBC Miami. ... She told me they painted all the kids faces black and said, Happy Black History Month. I couldnt believe it. My brain was malfunctioning.
After viewing the photos, Politis, who is Black and whose children are mixed race, said she sent the photos to the day cares owner, who responded with, Im sorry? ... I dont understand. Whats racist? We dont use those words, Politis recounted. And the first response is the real response, she added.
The use of blackface started in the 1830s, when white performers painted their faces Black and acted out stereotypes portraying Black people as lazy, ignorant and as thieves.
Politis and her husband, Nick Politis, have since pulled their children from the day care. Without having another immediate child care provider, Politis said she had to watch them at home this week, which was challenging for the whole family.
But for it to be my child that has to be disappointed, and has to change his routine, it broke my heart, Politis said. How are we going to pull our kids mid-semester from school? We have to go to work. So its really just figuring out whats the escape plan to get out of here, because what else are you teaching our children behind closed doors?
Politis said the teacher, who is Argentinian, apologized for the blackface incident, telling her it was her countrys cultural tradition. The couple also met with the day cares owner after the incident, but said they stand by their decision to remove their children from the day care.

A man who authorities say was trying to steal a catalytic converter from a truck in Palmdale is dead after being run over by the driver of that truck.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. Tuesday at a shopping center parking lot in the 39000 block of 10th Street West, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities say a car with four suspects inside pulled up to the lifted 4x4 Ford Excursion, and one of them got out to saw off the vehicle's catalytic converter.
A woman was sleeping inside the truck and heard the noises and thought someone was breaking in. She started the engine and put the car in reverse gear. When she felt a bump, she got out and called 911 after she saw a man on the ground.
Responding deputies detained the three other suspects, another man and 2 women. The suspect that was struck was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
