yeah, game grumps have done some dumb things but that game arg thing was an overblown controversy

i think the first time i realized arin was an asshole was when he was at a game grumps panel and some socially broken nerdy guy was asking him about his animation and used the word gimmick as a filler word to describe it and Arin (who I dont think had animated a single thing in like 5 years at the time) went "ARE YOU CALLING MY ANIMATION A GIMMICK?" and tried to menace the guy

After that I started noting just more and more aggravating things about him. He endlessly nitpicks games he doesn't like and acts indignant that he "has" to play them for game grumps, acts like a huge bitch any time anyone calls them out about something, and in general just seems really unpleasant.

Game Grumps reminds me of other stuff like Critical Role and My Brother My Brother and Me that got popular with zoomers and younger millenials and tried to clean up their image a lot. Except those two are a lot better at looking corporate and proper, whereas when Arin and Dan try to do it they end up looking fake and obnoxious.

once i was with a friend and we went to the self checkouts, and as a joke he scanned something and like tossed it over his shoulder into one of the bags. it landed in there but with a loud clank, and for some reason that made the old lady watching the self checkouts walk over and start leaning in all of our bags and watching every single thing go in. we didn't say anything to her about it, we just kept scanning stuff

on the way out a guy working at the store stopped us and asked what we had taken. we told him nothing and i, who was working a shitty grocery store job at the time, told him i was pretty sure we could probably get him fired if he checked us and found nothing if i cared to talk to someone about it. he started acting really uncomfortable about the whole situation, we showed him the reciept, and he kind of pretended to look at it before letting us go.

in retrospect i felt sort of bad for the guy, because it was clear the self checkout hag had gone to tell someone we were suspicious and he had probably ended up getting asked by someone who had no idea of the rules to dramatically confront us.

Season 2 of the witcher was starting to drift into "adaption made by people who clearly resent the material they are adapting" territory and I don't at all blame someone who apparently really liked the witcher not wanting to deal with people doing the shit they did.

i played red dead 2 a shitton this year but i think this is inflated because for whatever reason that game seems to keep the ps4 from going into standby mode.
