It's no surpriss really. You have an amazing headset half the price that doesn't have to be tethered to a PS5. It has built in audio so no wires literally needed. It can also be used for PC VR.

This could very well end up being as big as Despicable Me movie franchise which will already have 6 movies when DM4 comes out.

2023 - Super Mario Bros.

2025 - Donkey Kong - K. Rool and entire Kong family nuff said. Maybe set it before the happening of the first Mario movie.

2026 - Super Mario Bros. 2 - wacky adventure through Sarasaland (from Super Mario Land). Introduce Daisy, Yoshi, Wario, and Waluigi. There is a desert kingdom seen in the Mario movie that could already be Daisy's kingdom. Subplot with Wario and Waluigi.

2028 - Luigi's Mansion - could be set on Isle Delfino from Sunshine, but use Luigi's Mansion 3's hotel idea. King Boo as the main villian. Introduces Professor E. Gadd.

2029 - Yoshi's Island - very cute whimsical prequel with all the baby versions of characters. It would really explore the Yoshi universe. Perhaps even show Bowser's origins.

2030 - Super Mario Bros. 3: - epic all out adventure with Bowser's return and in space. Introduce Rosalina. Perhaps a super villian like Tatanga behind the thing and Bowser teams up with Mario at end.

It also brought a smile and tear to my eyes seeing

Jungle Kingdom being this fleshed out land of Kong society. Them being the ones making karts felt natural and reminded me of Funky Kong in DKC3 making vehicles. Seeing the boardwalk roads all around has me excited to see if a new DK game will be based around this new presentation of the universe.

Also, maybe we'll get a spin off with

Yoshi's Island prequel movie. We already know in post credits scene that Yoshi will probably be a huge role in sequel. We also saw baby Mario and Luigi in that flashback scene. Kamek could do some memory magic on the babies so they forget they were kidnapped as babies. The film could also explore how Peach got to Mushroom Kingdom. It could even go a Baby's Day Out direction with some slapstick comedy.

What really was amazing was not just how the universe and lore of a video game fit so well with the film and plot, but the many action sequences that showed Mario actually platforming around like in the games.

M & L platforming in construction zone in Brooklyn
M climbing on pole underground
M & Peach obstacle course
M & DK fight
M & DK platforming and kicking shells near end
L jumping across lava

Just watched it! As a Mario fanatic since I can literally remember growing up with games, 90s movie, cartoons, spin-offs, etc... I will say the movie made me smile entire time and several times made my eyes water.

It truly is everything I could have wanted in a Mario movie. Only bad thing is it was too short, but I have a feeling we'll be seeing many sequels.

Because piracy is immoral.
It's immoral to have entire libraries of digital only games vanish without any care for preservation and just leaving up to others to do so. So naturally pirating comes in to save the day like usual with any sort of gaming preservation for people who actually want to enjoy these experiences without jumping massive hurdles and increading expenses.

I was dissapointed overall with game because it became too frustrating with amount of cheap enemies. Also, the ally AI sucks if you are stuck with them which in the end will happen due to it being an online only game.

World War Z is a much better game if you want the same vibes and gameplay.

I mean in battle royale games now we have entire maps where you can enter every building like Fortnite, Warzone, and PUBG. I realize it's different and not an entire city worth of places, but I think it could be done with the size of a city like Liberty City in GTA3 at this point.

DK Isle perhaps has the best hub music. That gives me so much nostalgia and always makes me think of memories from 1999 playing DK64 for the first time at a Best Buy kiosk. I don't know if I'll ever feel the same hype as I did for DK64.i would scour every magazine and website preview.

I feel Banjo-Kazooie honestly beats it in terms of immersiveness and design. The way Kirkhope made the hub's music dynamic to the nearby level was brilliant at the time. The amount of secrets and Grunty's insults. It was pure magic.

Super Mario Sunshine is perhaps best in in terms of just sheer joy of goofing around with how many interactive things there are to do.

Galaxy is good for functionality in terms of organized and getting you back into levels quickly.

Banjo-Tooie's hub was amazing in terms of just sheer scale at the time. It really felt like a grand adventure.

Spyro 2's hub get a mention too. I loved the atmosphere and it felt like a level in itself.

Rocket: Robot On Wheels has an underrated hub world.

Yooka-Laylee's was quite amazing and brought back that Grunty's Castle vibe.

Nuts & Bolts was quite unique too in being a hub, but also miniature GTA like world with NPCs and being able to wreck havok

It's pretty fascinating to see 3D platformers going more into world maps lately. Crash 4, Sackboy, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, 3D World, etc.. are all cool maps.

Then you have open world plarformers where there's no actual hub because it's all connected like Jak and Bowser's Inside Story.

Least favorite it no map or hub or anything accept some menu selection. Odyssey and Astro Bot do this style. I see from a functional side, but no reason a developer can't do a mix of styles. Super Mario World on GBA did it perfect. You could select which level on menu bit also still go around map.

I'm going outside the meaning of "beat" because so many games don't have actual endings or even story/campaign modes. So I'l just say complete to satisfaction which I have several metrics. Win a solo round of a battle royale, win match against AI in sports, stopping at some point in idle game where it becomes a loop, etc...

Lots of misinformation in this thread by people claiming to work in retail. I was a retail manager for 10 years before I went back to school. These are 2 different planograms that got mistakenly placed together. A dental planogram and woman's health or whatever. This usually happens when the store is fucked up in some way, layout wise. Like for whatever reason, the store is missing 8 feet of aisle due to a photo center or something, or the store is just physically smaller. Some 4 or 8 foot section got shifted over to make everything fit. And yes, everyone there saw the problem and ignored it, because no one wants to tear down an isle and reset it twice.

Someone knows what's up. I have done jobs resetting literal aisles in this section of Walmart. Aisles being reset are often done by third party companies coming in with a crew who specialize these resets. Planograms are different from store to store. A section like toothbrushes is a hassle too. I'm sure workers who set this aisle were totally done and did not care how the products were set. They just wanted to go home already. I've seen all kinds of odd combination of products next to each other.

Funny to see the opposite experience. I think it boils down to one's experiences and situation in life too. I think biggest factor for me is just the abundance of nonstop games with now game subscriptions, free to play, mobile games, VR games, cheap indie games, free giveaways, emulation, physical backlog, etc.. There's a game just waiting to be played at every turn and time. I can play an idle game here and there between doing tasks at home, meanwhile it's playing itself when I leave.

Also, movies and shows are super formulaic. I know games can be too, but you're often given leeway because interactivity.

In the last few years the number of movies and series I have went through keeps declining. It's because if I start watching by myself especially, then I tend to get an urge to rather be playing video games. It's not that I don't love movies or series, but lately I only watch when I'm eating or with partner. Also, pandemic made me not want to go to a theater in a long time. The only real movie I look forward to right now is the Super Mario Bros movie which is game related.

Just wondering if anybody else is going through this. It's just games are a better experience. That 2 hours in a movie could be time playing several matches of a battle royale game, half of a walking sim, couple levels up in an rpg, completing a world in a platformer, etc...

For 2022 it has been bullet heaven/horde survivor games that have been influenced by Vampire Survivors. Really started with Magic Survival mobile game, but it didn't get attention until after the fact.

In the last few years it has been battle royale, extraction, social deduction, auto battlers, loot shooters, hide & seek, roguelite deckbuilders, etc.. that all broke out.

Is there any game released this year or last that could be a huge influence for a new genre next year?

I feel like Stray could influence something. It's really hard to label it one genre.

Remnant is also pretty unique being a soulslike shooter. Not the best game, but I can see more souls shooters happening.

I have fallen into the rabbit hole of this genre in last 2 weeks. I really can't wait to see what the general consensus on genre name will end up. For now I like horde survivor.

I have "beat" Magic Survival which is seen as origin of the genre. For being the origin, it really is made so well in terms of balance. Also "beat" Mages Survival which is a straight up clone of it. I say beat I mean unlock whole game. There's already a bunch of these sorts of clones.

Vampire Survivors and Holocure really stand out from these simple ones. They have better balance and variety. The controls feel more smooth and just overall presentation really sells it.

I'm currently playing like 8 or so of these games on rotation.
