I've tried watching this movie twice and dozed off both times lol. It's the only animated Disney movie I can say that for. It starts off well enough but then turns into a bore. Beauty and the Beast is objectively the best. Followed by (in no order) Lilo and Stitch, Mulan, Aladdin, and Great Mouse Detective.

I sat through it. You didn't miss much.

As for your list, B&tB is okay, but I'm not sure I'd rate it among the best. Never seen L&S, Mulan was alright, Aladdin was good, and I remember the Great Mouse Detective being okay.

It had a lot of issues beyond that. The casting was lackluster, the animation was the drizzling shits, the jokes mostly fell flat (partly because the casting sucked), etc.

I had zero interest in Emperor's New Groove when it came out and didn't decide to suffer through it until years later when I was playing catch-up with Disney films.

Because a combined $118k isn't anything close to a safe income unless you're pretty heavily saving and investing. And, honestly, a lot of couples making a combined $200k live hand-to-mouth on a higher level.

And while living in rural Texas keeps your bills low, how able would you to be to find comparable-paying jobs? That would be my biggest concern.

That's not terribly frugal, honestly. One of my single cousins makes about $112k/year salary (not sure about bonuses) and rents a single room via airbnb. His car? At least 18 years old, and not a "it's holding up" 18 years old car (mine is pushing 20, but because I was working remotely for so long, my mileage is relatively low for a car that old -- in fact, my mileage is low for a TEN year-old car). He's a guy with a portfolio that might be around $400k right now, zero debt, etc, and I'm not sure he's ever taken a holiday where somebody else wasn't footing most of the bill.

If he lost his job tomorrow -- which he could -- he could probably live on what he has for decades at his current spending levels.

I do too, but my zoo has a "happy hour" where adults can go to the zoo. It is actually a really great time to go because it is at night when most of the animals are actually the most active. They also serve alcohol during that time if you are into that kind of thing.

Oh. THAT context makes more sense.

Two reasons:

First, anime has helped to establish and popularize manga in the US, in no small part because manga tends to get adapted into anime an almost 1:1 basis whereas comics are often heavily reimagined when they get shows or movies.

And the discrepancy between tv/film and comics kinda limits the cross-over appeal. It's not 100% either side's fault, other than the broader issue of things running forever and continuity changes being inevitable (although a lot of continuity changes are inherently problematic, like crippling Barbara Gordon, which was edgy in comics and -- in today's climate -- would lead to cancellation attempts).

Secondly, American comics suck right now. Like they're legitimately terrible. Let me preface that a bit further -- Marvel and DC, the two companies with the broadest reach and who largely dominate the market, suck. And because the US's comic industry isn't as varied or robust as Japan's (where it's not just two companies basically running everything), that kinda kills the industry.

The other issue is Marvel and DC have more or less cultivated a narrow lane by leaning into superhero stuff. And I also think it *might* be more expensive to produce comics in the US than Japan, partly due to expectations (since the US tends to favor full-color everything) and also labor costs.

There are other supporting cultural reasons, too, that helped manga offer a larger variety of content. And because the number of manga is drastically higher than the number of US comics, there are inevitably going to be more great titles (along with more bad ones, but those fall by the wayside)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you haven't updated your belief of "it's weird to be attracted to somebody 10 years younger than me" since you were in your early-mid 20's. At that point, yes, it is indeed weird. Even in your later 20's when you wouldn't actually be talking about minors and defaulting immediately to yikes, aging from 18-20 makes a pretty substantial difference in maturity for most people as they experience life on their own, so it's pretty typical for well-established adults to not be particularly interested in them beyond pure physical attraction (hence the preponderance of "teens" in porn).

By contrast, once somebody hits their early-mid 20's, they're pretty well-established as an adult and there isn't usually a substantial maturity difference between that and their early-mid 30's (aside from typically settling on what they want to do with their life in that time frame). As such, there kind of stops being a reason to balk at a 10-year age gap. Even if we take the lazy way out and go with the golden rule, 35/2+7=24.5, so 25 is fair game. If you've just stuck with "10 years is too much of an age gap," there's plenty of reason to reconsider that principle as you age.

Yeah, and once you get used to the idea of a 10-year age gap when you're in your thirties, it makes it easier to wrap your head around a 20-year age gap when you're in your 40s and a 30-year age gap when you're in your 50s, and... well, it goes on.

Honestly, when platformers move from 2D to 3D, they often kinda start to change genres, which is another issue. Metroid was a 2D platformer series, but Metroid Prime started to takes things into more of a FPS direction, ultimately culminating in a PvP component. The Mega Man Legends games felt more like an RPG. Then the Sonic franchise started to do a lot of weird stuff in general.

Although it's a nice sentiment -- since scalpers add no value to the process and grift a fortune -- it's infeasible. The best method would probably be anti-price-gouging laws (set to around MSRP, where it couldn't be more than 5-10% higher on actively-produced product), which would let the government crack down on the marketplaces to make it harder for scalpers to resell. However, so long as people are willing to pay scalper prices, there will be scalpers.

But obviously it's ridiculous. You'll have computers automatically placing hundreds of pre-orders/orders on behalf of individuals/organizations (or thousands, in the case of tickets).

However, as adjl notes, the only real long-term solution would be the market not buying goods at scalped prices where the decision needs to be consumer-side to completely get rid of it.

About the only anomaly in that list is that the N64 didn't really retain any naming similarities with the SNES, despite the latter moving a tonne of units.

The tie-in was the marketing. The SNES was marketed as a 16-bit system whereas the N64 (or Nintendo 64) was marketed as a 64-bit system, which was also used to suggest a superiority to the ps1.

It was a similarity in that both had "Nintendo" in their core names (whereas some of the spinoffs/handhelds only had Nintendo in their full names)

Well, they kinda can't do it for everybody, if certain characters are being used as villains in other films, including these kinds of films.

Started watching the newer Bastard! anime over the weekend (or a little before?). I'd heard a bunch of hype over the manga and OVA so, when I saw the new version listed on NF, I figured I'd finally give it a try and... this is fucking dogshit. Just unbelievably bad. So I looked up the OVA episode list and the story sounds identical. If the other version is comparable to this one, I can't believe the franchise gets any praise.

The only kinda-benefit is it makes for a good "Eh, I have a few minutes" anime where I'm not worried about following the whole thing.

Teachers unions, administrators, and other groups with vested interests in profiting from the education system rather than teaching. And, generally speaking, teaching has a reputation for not exactly attracting the best and brightest in any given society

However, keep in mind that governments need to keep people stupid, because if the people were rational and intelligent, most politicians wouldn't be in office.

If I don't remember reliving it, any other days of my life, or whatever motivations I might currently feel that have prompted me to consider the idea, I'm never actually going to feel any sense of satisfaction from it or be aware of my perpetual joy. That kind of kills any potential it might have to be something I want, since as far as my present consciousness goes, it's basically a matter of dying happy right now.

Been watching The Culprit Hanazawa. Like the other Det Conan spinoffs, it's mostly sucked so far. The premise is interesting and some of the lampooning is fun, but it's mostly just a bad comedy with occasional Conan references

And I also got into watching some of those anime/manga recaps on YT, which feels like it beats watching/reading the real thing in many cases.
