I'm a little surprised I was the highest ranker for Flee. I agree that its art style deserves criticism even compared to Waltz With Bashir which was much more successfully stylized, but I thought the film was captivating enough throughout that it didn't negatively effect the experience too much.

I'll stick with The Little Prince as my prediction though Johnbobb's #29 has gotta drop eventually!

I watched this movie and then the original Wicker Man shortly afterward and I was surprised by just how similar they are. I ended up liking Wicker Man a little more, it was funnier.

Birdboy was one of the 3 movies I found myself really hoping would go higher, along with my #2 and 3, so in retrospect I think I should've bumped it up to my fourth spot, which would've actually brought it up to #9. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised it did so well though, I was worried it might go out in the bottom 10 for being too artistic. I'd like to read the comic it was adapted from, Psiconautas, but from the searching I did it's not available in English or French, only Spanish. Maybe some day.

I'll stick with my prediction and say The Little Prince drops next.

Yeah that project only having six voters led to some funny results. Zucchini got robbed out of a potentially really high placement by one guy placing it in 34th or something, but it still got 8th place. At least it didn't get done as dirty as Anomalisa (30th), Boy & and the World (29th), or It's Such a Beautiful Day (26th). The former two were below Hotel Transylvania 3 and the latter still below Ralph Breaks the Internet!

Though actually the film that got robbed the most brutally might be Spider-Man, which was denied the top spot by my putting it in 26th. In retrospect I think that was a *bit* ridiculous, but idk how much higher I'd put it today. I definitely don't like it as much as Klaus which was my #20.

I definitely have nothing to complain about, last year by the top 10 my favorite films left were two Pixar movies and My Life as a Zucchini and I was mostly just invested in seeing if I could snag the #1 outlier spot. This time I definitely have a few left that I'm invested in the placement of. Let's see how long it lasts!

O really? Well his lowest spot remaining is #19 which might still give Encanto space to squeeze into 4th place with 83 points as long as no one else dunked it. Knowing that makes me feel slightly more confident about calling the long shot of Fantastic Monsieur Renard out ranking it, since I thought Puss and Encanto were the no brainer 1 and 2 when we started.

Some of the most polarizing movies landed around this 11-15 range but I figured Apollo was coming soon because it seemed the type of thing that wouldn't evoke super strong feelings in most people one way or another. I have actually thought about it from time to time after finishing, despite what my writeup says, but the scene that sticks in my head most is Jack Black's dad making the gas station worker squeeze every last drop from the hose which made me angry.

My prediction for the order of the remaining films:

Which I know is a little spicy but I am personally kinda hoping for a non-Puss winner if only to avoid such a predictable #1. I think the top 4 here are movies that might be able to unite the art snobs and the Gauntlet old guard (unless one of them is Johnbob's mysterious #29?) While The Bad Guys and Birdboy are the ones left that I think might show that dichotomy the most.

I think I went in wanting to like My Father's Dragon and only rated it so high out of a sense of good will toward Cartoon Saloon. In retrospect it was so fucking lame and I feel like there was almost nothing to attach to.

I almost miss the Ron's Gone Wrong run already. Maybe I could've put it one or two spots hire, I feel like I remember Ron calling not-Hogarth "Absalom" more than I remember anything from The Willoughbys at least (also more than his actual name, I definitely couldn't have told you he's called Barney if asked yesterday.)

I'm happy with Chrono Trigger as the winner, it wouldn't have been my personal choice though. I was rooting for it heavily in the last few weeks in part because it was one of the only non Mario games left (though this wasn't enough to make me vote for Final Fantasy X).

I did think Waltz With Bashir would get some flak here for being a "Shooting and Crying" film. To think, if it weren't for the Snobby Art Jerks Alliance it would've been near the bottom of the list.

I don't personally read the movie as trying to sweep the Israeli army's role in the massacre under the rug. It's a documentary so it's harder to distill to a single thesis statement, because different speakers will have different takes, but one of them even compares Ari's complicity to that of a Nazi (which carries even more weight as a statement considering what country the film is from.) I think it's important that the movie still treats the soldiers as human beings despite what horrible things they've done, and that it shows them empathy because they are still humans, whether we as viewers like them, or forgive them, or not.

Oh yes, I will say Apollo 10 1/2 for Vegas

Maybe I could've bumped Turning Red up a few spots, I think when I was making my list I just thought "Well it was better than Lightyear for sure, I'll just stick it on the spot immediately above that one". Still a movie I have to try to feel anything about though. Pixar dropped off big time after having two movies in the top 5 last time we did this.

The Girl Without Hands was such a bad bitch that even Satan couldn't fuck with her. I thought it was kinda interesting to see how much focus there was on the breast milk aspect in the writeups. I'm not sure if that was fetishistic so much as the film is just European, North America has a really puritanical culture so it probably comes off as more weird to us over here.

I'm not too shocked Ron's still in, I thought it and Sea Beast would be the most likely sleeper hits of the list but I expected Sea Beast to do better, I also kinda thought that one had a shot at top 10.

I can definitely understand why the central premise of the prehistoric origins of soccer, excuse me, football was left out of the American ad campaign. It's both too British to get Americans to buy tickets and also the least interesting part of the film

lol yeah when I was watching the movie and it turned out Football was a secret part of mankind's earliest history I thought "This would probably resonate a lot more with my if I lived in Europe."

Worst character on the list... I guess I'd say it's a tie between the two Strange World dads personally but I think Gabi is a fine suggestion too, it was definitely a questionable choice to use her shitty song for the credits like that lol

I really like Shaun the Sheep so I was predisposed toward Early Man going in but it was honestly just so lackluster that I have almost nothing to say about it.

I wouldn't even really say I hated DC Pets but it definitely felt like a chore to sit through. There was nothing on the list that really evoked passionate negative feelings in me, but I did think my bottom 3 were on their own level of terribleness.

It seems like I enjoyed all the movies slightly more than some of the voters after reading the writeups for Willoughbys, which people called a shitshow worthy of the bottom spot or said "God, I hated this" yet had it in like 24th or 17th place lol. Still even for me I'd break the list down like this:

1-3 I loved
4-9 I really enjoyed
10-14 were pretty good
15-26 were mediocre
27 Sucked
28-30 Sucked a lot worse

Okami and Shadow of the Colossus both went from relatively obscure to widely regarded as classics and almost obligatory on best games ever lists

Yeah Majora's Mask is a good one

Apparently Morrowind was regarded as the game that dumbed down Elder Scrolls for consoles when it first came out but now tends to be considered the best game in the series.

I remember New Vegas being considered a disappointment compared to Fallout 3 and getting a worse Metacritic score but now everyone seems to think it's much better out of the two.

lol, I don't think it's too weird, the movie has generally been regarded as a masterpiece and a landmark in animation ever since it came out. I like weird and psychedelic movies and I'm not that concerned about every movie needing a strong plot so it ended up making the biggest impression on me out of the films on the list, and it's one of the movies I wanted to rewatch after I was done.

(I did actually end up rewatching my top 3 in part between when I marathoned my way through the list and now.)
