Oh I had that bad for about eight months after my second go with it. Inhaler didn't help worth shit either. I still sometimes get shortness of breath for no reason, but it's greatly diminished.

It's not necessarily 24 frames. Mario speedruns are measured in framerules and a single frame of missed input can cost you multiple framerules.

Isn't 8-4 the exception to that, in that the speedrun ends the instant you touch the axe rather than, to use the common framerule metaphor, waiting for the bus?

Yep. Very good Metroidvania. At least got the good ending, but definitely didn't manage to do everything. Nightmare King Grimm stonewalled me pretty bad, so I just decided to wrap the game up at that point.
