I was on patches for a couple of months before switching to injections. Patches are where I started to see an uptick in the speed of changes, and the only thing I didn't like about them is they were really expensive and hard to stock up on

Maybe in extreme cases they can say no? I'm not really sure what the specifics are. But I can guarantee you'll be fine. They'll probably ask you some questions like how long you've feeling this way, what you hope to get out of HRT. Then they'll give you standard info about its effects and probably prescribe you estradiol pills.

The clinic I saw offered me injections. If you can handle needles I highly recommend them. That's what I switched to eventually

ya I have no problem with needles. getting the juvederm and stuff done was like a dozen injections all over my face lol

It's safe to say most people didn't follow them until the 90's. They really aren't that associated with the 80's at all. Okay, gotcha. That makes more sense now. I see an endocrinologist at a trans care center, and we just had the progesterone conversation a few weeks ago and I started it. Wasn't a fan personally, but some people swear by it.

There's a lot of claims flying around about progesterone. Some people say it bumped them 2 cup sizes, some people say it did nothing, others said it converted to DHT (testosterone derivative) and made their hair fall out. There's absolutely no evidence or studies to support any of this btw, it's essentially all anecdotes being shared around the trans community

My takeaway, from my experience and direction from my endo, is that you should wait and see what estrogen alone does for you. There's no documented benefit or acceleration of results from starting progesterone day 1

hmmm makes sense, and ive taken dht blockers for 20 years so i def dont wanna deal with anxiety about it. thanks!

That is incredibly suspect. There's really nothing controversial available to try that would accelerate things. There's estradiol, the main female sex hormone; progesterone, a secondary hormone that cis women produce that has mixed reception and no proof of necessity in trans women, and then there's blockers of various types to help suppress testosterone. That's it.

What is your doctor's specialty?

and if you dont (or even if you do) dont leave the house without sunscreen. I use retinol+SPF lotion every day and have for years. Exfoliate once or twice a week. Hyaluronic acid mask every other night or so. Drink lots of water. Collagen and biotin supplements. Dont be afraid to consult a cosmetic surgeon. Most consultations are free.
