There used to be an unofficial troll holiday 50 years ago on the East Coast called "Who's Eff'ing Thanksgiving" (or "Who's Fucking Up Thanksgiving"). Kids went Trick or Treating door to door to interrupt other people's Thanksgiving dinner. Instead of saying "Trick or Treat", they would say "Who's Effing Thanksgiving." They'll keep ringing until the host gave them candy to leave. Bonus points if you interrupt them during the dinner prayer.

I remember an episode of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" from the 80s that featured a private college preparatory school for billionaires. The school buckled under pressure from their affluent student body and allowed a McDonalds on campus, but with the caveat that the location meet school expectations.

The McDonalds looked like a smoking room plucked from Hearst Castle. The seating was plush leather couches, the tables were imported Italian marble, meals were served on china and silverware. Million dollar works of art hung everywhere.

I use to think systemic racism wasn't the biggest problem, and that's coming from someone who is black. Over the past decade I have seen white conservative Republicans actively make their own lives miserable just to spite anyone who wasn't white.

This is becoming exceptionally dangerous because shifting demographics means the majority of Americans participating in society will be non-white. Systemic racism goes from inconveniencing and isolating a minority to preventing the nation from functioning properly due to having a majority untrained workforce.

True. Rice has a fuck ton of starch on it unless you buy it already rinsed. When starch hits hot water, it turns into glue. You'll end up with porridge instead of fluffy loose clumps of grain.

I myself sometimes use rice starch to thicken sauces and puddings.

That reminds me that I didn't know the season 1 Lois Lane from the old George Reeve's Superman series had only just died a couple of weeks ago.

I was just about to talk about the Columbia car. I remember an episode of an ancient radio show called "Suspense" where the killer was caught because she was a 70 year old spinster with an old Columbia electric car. The detective surmised the get away car was electric because the only witness didn't see any exhaust coming from it.

It's funny because I've heard that in the novel the movie was based on, all the characters were black teens and it took place in contemporary times. It's like turning "Boyz N the Hood" into "Mad Max."

I mean the show is the very definition of a "situational comedy". Also, it was hilarious for its time. RIP to Richard Moll. His character was my favorite on the show.

I've considered child acting a low-key form of child abuse. You as a parent are commoditizing your own child, or at the very least condoning it.

How do I know this? My boss humored his 12 year old daughter who wanted an acting career by allowing her to appear in commercials and as speaking extras. He always made sure to chaperone her. At one shoot at a major studio for a part on a TV pilot, the producers and their security separated him from his daughter. Security and staff refused to let him back stage to see her saying it was a restricted area until he made threats to get the police involved. After that, he pulled her out of acting all together. If he had let her stay, he wouldn't have been looking out for her as a father.

Scientology has their own PAC and regularly intimidate politicians through their lawyers and unhinged followers. Los Angeles's current mayor Karen Bass takes money from Scientology, a fact that was used against her during the last elections.

A number of these landlords don't exist. If you try to contact them you find that their home address is a PO Box and their phone number leads to voicemail. They are names on paper that the true owners of the building use to shield themselves from inquiries and complaints by renters and the legal system.

One of the reasons I've heard is that Israel is terrified that if they commit more of their troops to Hamas and Gaza, Hezbollah will take the opportunity to attack from Southern Lebanon to cause further chaos. The US is probably there to discourage Hezbollah from taking the opportunity.

I've heard the reason execs prefer CG is because you don't have to hand-redraw entire scenes if you want to change something minor. It has the same benefits as filming a live action movie with cameras and actors on a real set.

This is an interesting premise bc if reincarnation exists, then the Abrahamic god nor those faiths are the correct ones, so Moses is really just some guy and not anyone important.

A lot of Orthodox Jews believe in reincarnation. It's not a core tenet in Judaism, although it is mentioned in more mystical strains like the Kabbalah and various Talmudic text.

It blows my mind that today's cruise ships have restaurant chains on them. Saw one with a "Johnny Rockets" on it with the sign and 50s diner decor included.
