Repubs actually switched it, I heard. Either first time around was No on 1 and this time it's yes on 1, or something.

Just more subterfuge from the right because they can't win on the actual merits of their policies. They have to try to trick people.

To clarify. Issue 1 in August was basically an attempt by Republicans to make it so that the actual Issue 1 now wouldn't pass

Issue 1 in August would have raised the requirements for both votes (I believe it'd need 60% rather than simple majority) as well as make it so that in order for any citizen petition amendment to get on the ballot, you would need to collect signatures from every single county in Ohio plus have a % of Yeses for the amendment based on the voting population of the county. It would have effectively destroyed citizen amendments and petitions due to how strict it was going to be.

If Issue 1 had gone through based on the results of tonight Issue 1 for November would have failed, and we would probably never see another petition amendment again.

I dont see how either ballot measure in Ohio fails. Issues 1 seems a lock. Issue 2 seems to be tightening but has a good cushion

My main concern going into today was how much Issue 1 in August was an abortion issue and how much was a voter's rights issue. The August vote would have broadly ruined petition based amendments, so I thought there was a chance some Republicans would vote against the issue while going against abortion. I am hopeful to be wrong.

Did my duty in OH. I want to believe because of the August issue this has a shot, but I have a feeling a large number of conservatives were willing to shoot down the Issue in August that limited people petition amendments but will vote no on the abortion and marijuana issue.

One small problem with the idea of not voting in order to teach Democrats a lesson is that they are so bad at learning. The lesson they took from Hillary's defeat is that they should nominate even more of a centrist in 2020.

And considering that centrist got more votes than most candidates and has actually been fairly effective in his position and passed a good number of progressive acts says that it was a good idea.

Do I think Biden is perfect? No. But he's better than the alternative and until forced rank choice voting happens I will continue to vote for the lesser of two evils when the other evil is near totalitarian evangelism

Ragnarok though yeah...they bloated the shit out of that game and not for the better even if I got the Plat. When the first place I went to was as large as Midgard in the first game and realizing there were probably 5 more of them, my interest waned a bunch

When it was first announced like...a decade ago, it was at least a somewhat interesting idea for the novelty of it. There was definitely some bad themes that needed to be removed for sure, but the concept of a Hitman game set in school I think could be fun. Set up traps, get the trust of the targets friends or get henchmen to set up situations and having to do it all in a way that you aren't outed. It'd be a fun balancing act of keeping your suspicion down while getting the job done, and add in getting the affection of your senpai so that the end game wins.

Of course...the dev was awful on multiple fronts and was too arrogant to not hand off the game when a studio literally offered to take it and finish it for him, so here we are.

This shouldn't be behind a paywall, if it is my apologies, but just go down to the Ohio map and hover over the individual counties. All the ones leaning Yes are at like 90% tallied. The major No Strongholds are at like 40% give or take. We're talking tens of thousands of votes that are going to bolster No that Yes can't make up in the other counties.

Don't be stressed. This is basically over. The counties voting Yes are not going at astronomical ratios (Most are 60/30 and some are dead heats) and they're almost 100% counted. Cleveland alone is only at 35% and is currently beating the pants off of Yes by a rate of 80/20. That's another 100-200k votes for No right there.

So just to affirm this, Washington Post has a County by County Measurer you can see what % of the vote is in. The majority of the Yes counties are 1) Super small and low voter count and 2) are already mostly 50% already counted.

Cuyahoga County, which has Cleveland, only has 30% of it's vote tallied, and it is currently winning No at a rate of 85%. Montgomery County is currently 70/30 No with only 30% of the vote in. Hamilton county is 78/22% no with only 28% counted.

Ergo, the major cities where No is probably going to feast are currently still under voting compared to the majority of the Yes Counties that are depleting fast.

Really this number going down only is concerning if most of the vote is coming from the cities. The cities are pretty solidly going to be No so if the majority of votes outstanding are from those counties then it's not a big deal. Without more information it's hard to say if the number going down is a good or a bad thing with a 3rd in.

Honestly as someone in Ohio, this whole ballot is fucked on a few levels.

The fact that Republicans originally voted to get rid of all August special elections because they "were confusing" or otherwise dumb, only to force a special exception for this one so they can force this motion through.

The fact that not only does it make it so that special amendments like this would require 60%...it would require that for a citizen amendment to even reach the ballot, it would require 5% of the voters in each county to sign off on it. That means that in order for anything to get put on the ballot, the bum nowhere voters of at least 5% would have to sign off. And that's not taking into account the efforts necessary to get signatures in every county.

This issue would basically destroy the ability of Ohio citizens to adjust their constitution. The Republicans talking up how this is supposed to stop "outside interference" (when even the bill's sponsor outright said it was about abortion)

The problem is, I know my state. It might be slowly getting better, but we literally just voted in Hillbilly Elegy Hack into the Senate because Trump supported him. We are not a smart state.

Elections *are* the only way to get change. I honestly don't know what else you're expecting. And "mediocre" (I'd struggle to call Biden that even, he's been boring but if you look at what he's done he's been highly effective) is still several degrees of separation from what Trump is. We had 4 years of seeing what Trump has to offer; if you honestly think that a man like that deserves to be President again, then you'll never see another candidate again because Republicans will probably destroy any semblance of equal, free democracy this country has.

January 6 shows he'd be willing to do what he needs to in order to become a tyrant, and 50% of the country will follow him.

I really don't say this lightly;

If Trump were to win the presidency and the Republicans keep a hold of the Legislative branch, there's a non-zero chance that they pass some form of legislation and work around laws that would make future elections mean absolutely nothing. We're already seeing it on the state level; States are making laws and putting them on the books that say that the Attorney General has the right to just throw out the vote if they feel like there was a sign of fraud or foul play, and Republican states will happily do that to remove any shot at the purple/swing states going anywhere but R.

This isn't even getting into the questions on if a President is able to pardon himself for crimes. It's one thing to get Impeached/Removed from office, which we know the Republicans will never do if they control both chambers. It's another thing for him to win and then say that the crimes against him are illegitimate and pardon himself.

And 50% of the population is still going to show up and vote for him because he was willing to destroy it for their side and "own the libs"

I've commented a lot about immigration, though I'm a bit iffy overall. But realistically if Trump gets elected in 2024 then I am 100% seeking to get out of the country as soon as possible because all I'll have seen is that democracy as an ideal in the US is dead and there is no coming back for it.

I've heard so many conflicting reports regarding this plant at this point it's hard to honestly say what's going on. On the one hand you've got major concerns. But on the other hand you have people stating that 6 out of the major reactors have been in cool down for months and that the last major one entered cool down a bit ago. You have an international nuclear body with people on site supposedly guarding it, but also that they were able to rig explosives to the roofs that may not actually do anything because of how reinforced the top is.

At this point I don't know and the confusion just makes it worse.

Also for who asked; nowhere close to the plant. I'm in the US, just a doomer of figuring that even any conventional response by NATO is going to be met with a potential nuclear response from Russia.

Honest question; why are we so sure about this when Russia has up to this point shown to be fairly irrational in it's choices? If in their mind it's the only way to garner a tactical advantage enough to press the war effort, what would stop them outside the risk of triggering MAD, with even that not necessarily being enough at this point?

Putin and by extension Russia has thrown basically everything at this, to just run away now would be almost impossible. They're getting locked into a corner with few options left.

There is currently 1 active cell that I believe was treated as "warm" rather than red hot. The real concern is the amount of radioactive waste that might be on premises that could be launched due to an explosion.

Gonna be a long few days worrying about the fallout (unfortunate pun) of whatever Putin gets up to with the ZNPP. At this point I'm just waiting to hear the sirens and tell my family I love them. Might be doomer thinking but this truly is the closest I've felt to nuclear war in my life time.

Dumb addition to the topic but I played Chess vs a Russian today (st. petersburg) and she said they are being told Ukraine has plans to sabotage the ZNPP.

Yeah, much like everything regarding Syria, this 100% means that Russia has plans to sabotage the ZNPP and are getting ahead of it to make it look like Ukraine did it.

Guess the next week is gonna be...interesting.

My theory is it shuts down the entire southern offensive without irradiating the parts Putin actually wants. Just look at the predictions from last year on where the fallout would hit hardest and then consider that everything to the west of that (in Ukraine) has been flooded:

Between the dam destruction and the fallout, Russia would be able to concentrate all of their defenses on the Eastern front while still maintaining a land corridor to crimea.

This is all working under the impression that this wouldn't get NATO involved, and I don't think they can make that assumption at this point. Nuclear fallout of any magnitude ending up in NATO territory is going to be met with overwhelming conventional destruction. The Russian army as a whole will be wiped nearly off the map in a matter of hours.

Jesus Christ, I honestly thought I'd at least live to see 30, but 18 days out I'm not so sure any more.

I mean, part of me hopes that NATO would keep this purely conventional but frankly even a massive conventional response to this would probably force Russia's hand into considering it a threat to their very existence and start the nuclear exchange. At this point I just wish that I could believe we're going to be okay but...
