Pretty disappointing, but the Dodgers could still totally fail to even make the World Series in the next decade. It's just not very fun to see a team get this stacked.

it still counts as ~45m against the CBT even if he is only being paid 2m fwiw. also there is no limit on deferred money. it is completely within the rules.

seeing a lot of people say this sets a bad precedent but i seriously doubt many players would be willing to go for something like this.
Yeah this doesn't seem like something many players would want to do. Ohtani is going to be getting paid a bunch in endorsements to supplement the $2 million per year.

I don't really like it though. Seems way too game-y. It's gonna be lame as hell if the Dodgers get Yamamoto as well.

they really do need to fire dipoto if they aren't going to lift the budget constraints on him. just doesn't seem like he's good enough to succeed with these parameters.
All their ownership sees is that they were just shy of making the playoffs again. It's funny that this is the second time Kelenic has been part of a highly questionable trade. Hopefully the change of scenery helps him.

Wendle I kinda get. They still don't know if Baty or Vientos will actually amount to anything. I think there's a good chance Mauricio will earn the spot as the everyday 2B, and I imagine they'd rather have Mcneil in the outfield than at third.

Those ones you named specifically I'm pretty sure are more popular for their design than anything else. Them being good competitively (except maybe Krookodile) certainly helps, but I think they're simply considered cool because they look cool.

Actually, I think most Pokemon fans probably have favorable opinions of the majority of Pokemon designs.

Most of the other kaiju are like Godzilla. They're just very large and very dangerous animals at the end of the day. But they're not necessarily malicious. The ones that are evil are generally under control of or working for aliens that want to subjugate Earth. Monsters like Gigan, King Ghidorah, etc.

And then there's Mothra who's consistently the only true good kaiju. She is almost always considered to be Earth's (and humanity's by extension) protector.

In a franchise so large, Godzilla is bound to be portrayed in every which way you can imagine. The majority of the time, Godzilla is either a pretty clear force for good, or a force of nature that usually acts in the best interests of humanity/Earth simply because it aligns with his own needs. Very rarely is Godzilla a force of true evil. So it's not really surprising that the audience roots for him more often than not.

I mean having 2 Hobbits just walking without any real gear and help even as far as they did to set up the brotherhood seemed like just as much or more riskier than taking a shot with the eagles.

Gandalf states multiple times throughout the story that the secrecy of their mission is of the utmost importance. They want Sauron to think they plan on using the Ring against him because Sauron cannot even fathom that they'd consider destroying it. It's not until Frodo is there at Mt. Doom that he realizes what is actually happening.

The Eagles would alert Sauron to the actual plan rather quickly I imagine. And let's not assume they'd even make it deep into Mordor either.

Like you, I've always thought it was going to be the Dodgers. Your reasoning for the Giants makes sense too.

I do think the Mets will make Ohtani an offer because they'd be crazy not to. But I think, like many teams, Yamamoto is going to be the guy they really, really want. And if the Mets want him as badly as I think, it will be tough to match them.

I'm primarily for developing players and then paying them with free agency and trades as a supplement (ie, what we've largely done), rather than vomiting money at big names and trying to outright buy a championship.
I've never really understood the criticism of "buying a championship". First of all, even if you do spend a fuckton of money the World Series is still hard to win and the playoffs are still a crapshoot. Further, most teams these days put a very great emphasis on player development, so ideally you're going to have a mix of homegrown players, good free agent signings, and good trades. If all of that results in you having a top 5 payroll, then I don't see what's so bad about that.

I've never cared about competitive pokeymans, but I could see that being relevant. The Clefable shadow thing is fun though. I love when people play on that in fanart and stuff. I wish the games would play it up.

I don't think him being good in competitive play is the main reason specifically for that one, but probably more that Gengar is just a really good Pokemon in general. That's pretty much the case for all good competitive Pokemon of course. If they're good in a competitive environment, then they're probably very good in-game as well. Gengar does have the caveat of being a trade evolution, but everyone knew in the first few generations that it was one of the best Pokemon you could potentially have.

I think the combination of Gengar being the only fully evolved Gen 1 Ghost Pokemon and it being really good is what makes Gengar so popular.

Middle school was a rough time due to the way they organized the school district. Tons of kids getting introduced to each other as like 4 different elementary schools merge into a single middle school. However by the time we all hit high school my class really fucking mellowed out and I quite enjoyed my time in high school.
Interesting how that all works out differently for certain people. I have very fond memories of middle school despite it only being two years. I think what must have helped is that for the core subjects, I had both the same teachers and same classmates in every single class for both years. I guess I was also fortunate that my best friend from elementary school happened to be in every one of those classes too. And my cousin. But we all were able to make friends with our new classmates pretty easily I remember.

High school was mostly okay, but in the final two years my own emotional issues really started to mess things up for me and it resulted in two things:

  1. It caused me to lapse significantly in my schoolwork
  2. I hurt someone I cared about through emotional abuse
Both of those things I still think about often and still have massive regrets over. So I don't know if I'd call that PTSD, but toward the end, high school was definitely a bad time because of it.
