Could do something similar to my Super Smash Bros. Mafia game where everyone's flavor is already known and had no impact on the roles. I dunno how well that ended up working out, but, well, that game had plenty of issues lol

You're not wrong. Even now, I've been using ol' reliable GameFAQs for walkthroughs of Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, Golden Sun, and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

FAQ makers are insanely good at compiling a ton of info and organizing it all into a clear and digestible structure.

As a former EpicMafia enthusiast, turbo games seem just up my alley. There was one particular setup I really enjoyed that was just dumb and mindless fun. One day I wanna run that setup again

I do recall you saying you worked at a lab, so that's neat! Don't think I'll be going for my PhD though. What field do you work in?

Kinda. Traditional holography works similarly to photographs but for 3D objects. So it's like looking at a 3D object through a 2D window (like, you can see different angles of whatever is recorded on the holographic film).

My particular focus is on digital holograms, though I've basically only done simulation work, as my research is purely theoretical. I've had the opportunity to make some holograms, but not the same kind that I'm doing research on.

sounds like you're in the wrong graduate program. i had infinitely more time for mafia when i was in grad school last year compared to working now!

Problem is I keep saying "aight I'll actually get work done and defend my thesis" and then it never actually happens.

But now my thesis defense date is set in stone, so my days of procrastinating on my research end now lol

Being a graduate student ain't worth it. I had to miss out on Ulti Mafia and Blade Mafia!

This is gonna be a month where I really have to focus and grind, so I'll have to tag out for this one sadly. But I shall be spectating

Don't tell Dumey but when he does his iso's i never ever go back and look at the posts that he's referencing because i play the game 95% on mobile, and having multiple tabs up to look at posts and going back and forth is a huge pain in the ass.

Putting in the work is good, but without a concise argument it's easy to lose your fellow town.

100% agreed with this. Even on PC, it's a hassle to go back and cross-reference posts with whatever long-winded arguments are being made.

I'm much more of a direct quotes kind of person. But I've also learned to value the "concise is nice" principle, especially when I had to go ISO myself back in Yu-Gi-Oh Mafia and realized just how much of a royal pain in the arse it is to parse through a post large enough to rival size of the Great Wall of China.

Honestly, mad props to Lea for continuing to play on despite the first two days. I made a joke that my curse of having my scum team getting instantly nuked was counteracting Lea's immunity to being lynched, and, well, turns out both forces were still perfectly in effect lol

I won't lie that I'm a tad salty over getting 360 no scoped over a legitimate joke post and getting gladiatored with the doctor of all people. Talk about unlucky x_x

I'm glad my death exposed the cop to us, but that was still extremely rough lol
Speaking of which, sorry for playing the emotional manipulation card, Ulti. I don't think I stood a chance against the Doctor unless I had a powerful role like Cop, which I'd certainly get counter claimed by. I really needed to sell an image of me being town in the slight hopes people might be convinced to lynch Death over me.

Overall, town played well. You guys were formidable foes to the end, and I'm not upset at all at how this ended. Lea fought hard for a seemingly hopeless cause (it's kinda funny now how holding onto the belief of Survivor Red kept us going lmao), but as long as everyone had fun, that's all that matters.

In all fairness to Wallz, he was part of the "lynch Sultan to kill Ctes" train back in Video Game Console Mafia. Thinking about the macro play/role interactions is in his wheelhouse as town.

And if we're both gonna end up dead by D2, I think it makes sense to optimize our chances of getting useful info from N1, even if it's highly unlikely scum would let either of us have that luxury. Though ultimately, it doesn't really matter which of us gets lynched first if we're both town. Scum might have a preference, though

Ironically, this is the only time where a day vig kill that ends the day would be a mercy.

Almost 24 hours and no Abacus in sight. That's... a little concerning, to say the least.

I do wonder if scum has a preference in pushing for one of the two townies now on the chopping block. If Death is scum, obviously his scummates would push for me. So that would put suspicion on Lea and Lopen if Death ever flips scum.

But if Death flips town, then we'd need to think about how scum would try to nudge the lynch. Would they back off and let town decide? Or do they have a preference for which role they'd like to neutralize? I think SBell and Wallz have both brought up arguments for lynching the Doctor instead of Cop. I would think that if I were scum, the Cop would seem more threatening and would require more resources to neutralize, whereas the Doc has to either get lucky or have a fantastic read to actually block the kill.

So I think SBell and Wallz are likely clear. I don't think they'd try to protect the Cop if they were scum. It'd be optimal for them to get the Cop lynched, so working against that seems antithetical to the scum agenda.

Like if Death claims doctor under pressure, yes, let it be, live to fight again.

If Death claims doctor immediately to start a gladiator match-- does a real doctor do this or does he try to keep his role secret as long as he can and win through conventional terms first? Kirby had some murmurings about him being scum-- it seems absurd that a town doctor would immediately want to claim rather than just trying to determine and convince people his opponent his scum first.

If I had been caught up and online by the time Sultan announced the gladiator match, I would've claimed immediately, too. Makes sense to try and shepherd people to lynch the other guy since you have a power role worth keeping alive. Death didn't know I was Cop at the time, and I didn't know he was Doctor, either. It's an unfortunate situation all around, really. But the town equity makes sense there. I don't like that you're trying to spin this as something it doesn't have to be.

I'm saying you should actually investigate him instead of shrugging and saying "well I haven't got a scum read on him guys!!" when you're gladiating with him.

You know you're town. You know scum would have no qualms fakeclaiming doctor here to ensure your doom. You still give this claim all the credibility of an doctor claim under different circumstances in spite of that despite it being more likely he's lying scum.

It's either the mindset of scum vs scum or scum who knows too much and knows he's telling the truth.

I simply just don't think like that, especially with B8's record for mislynching protection. Forgive me for being cautious :P

Like, forgive me for being grumpy, but I'm seriously annoyed at this horrible play from Ulti. It's Day 1, and I already struggle with making reads on Day 1, no matter how weak those reads are, and I'm basically consigned to die either by lynch today or by nightkill. Which is cruel irony that I rolled Cop again and once more I'm not gonna live to see a Day 2.

So I'm not exactly feeling the most motivated to actually do any scumhunting when I have absolutely nothing to go off of and Ulti singlehandedly killed off whatever other discussion could be spawned from this day. Really, this day is dragging on for way longer than it needs to. Death and I are both gonna be dead before Day 2, so why bother drawing this out pointlessly?

With all due respect to Ulti, I don't have faith that he pegged one scum and one town with his role, unless he did so on purpose because he himself is scum.

You'd have to draw a link between Ulti and Death being scummates before I could believe Death is scum and not just truthfully claiming Doctor. Could Death be fakeclaiming Doctor as scum? Yes, it's probable. But that's fully operating on the probability of Death being scum, which Ulti had a 3/11 or 4/11 chance of nailing. Again, those odds aren't necessarily high.

The only thing that might suggest an Ulti and Death scum team is that Ulti used this ability so early on and so recklessly that there's not nearly enough content to even try to pair the two together.

Call me crazy, but I really don't think I'm wrong here for not immediately thinking Death is scum.

Oh well there's the confirmation that one of us has to die. How lame.

Random guy Ulti suspects is picked for gladiate there is a much higher chance it is scum fakeclaiming than the actual doctor. At least 4x as likely by the numbers.

That seems like a logical fallacy.

We have 13 players
Remove Ulti from the pool and assume he's town
I'm town, remove me from the pool

The odds of Death being scum are 3/11 or 4/11, both of which are less than 50%. Thus, it's likelier that Death is town. It's just unfortunate that he's also Doctor.

If we're talking pure statistics, at least. The simplest logic to me is that Death hasn't done anything scummy to make me believe his Doctor role is fake. And why take that chance if No Lynching is an option? Even if it's not an option, I'm leaving the onus on you guys to figure out which role hurts less to lose. Thanks, Ulti.

Dude my flavor referenced the fact that I rolled Cop last game and died super early for it, calling this game like a mulligan of sorts. Suffice to say, I was excited for redemption.

... Funny how that turned out. Ugh.

I voted SBell as a joke and fully intended to unvote him as soon as he got close to being hammered. I didn't really see the arguments against him. If anything, Peaf seemed extremely aggressive and defensive. Then again, everyone just seemed really pissed off at each other from what I read during my catch-up.

Lean town on Wallz. I've observed him over the past couple of games, and he seems like he's in his town persona. Everyone else I don't have much of a read on, least of all Death. Though if Death is town, Ulti most certainly has to be.

I think once upon a time Ben was in a static back in Shadowbringers. But he's been progging the Endwalker raids in PF since then. We both cleared P9S through PF but have yet to get our reclear because lol PF. And as fortune would have it, a new person to our FC

It's funny because our raid time starts at 8 PM EST, so 7 PM would've worked out very nicely. Not that I'm complaining; the late deadline time really only affects Death to a degree. I'd much rather have people active and available at the end of the day than otherwise. And on most days, 10 PM will work out nicely for me anyway.

... So regarding mafia, guess I'll be the first to ask: IGCD, you're kickass for starting the day with a vote, but any particular reason you started with a vote on Lea without explanation?

I started the "train" on Red because I was trying to make a pun.
Isquen voted Lopen as a "return to form" (whatever that means).
You voted SBell for being completely serious during this inevitable joke phase of the game.

I don't think any of our votes are serious at this stage, but just to generate discussion, I think your initial vote on Lea makes the least sense out of all the feckless votes tossed out thus far. What was your thought process there?

Also, SBell, I feel like normally you would've joined in on the fun this early on in the game. I could be mistaken... but why so serious?
