Anyone want to play?

It's been a while since I've been able to play some matches with you all. I've been so busy grading and haven't had enough time to do more than dabble around with Quickplay sporadically. If any of you want to play tomorrow evening or Thursday sometime, please tag me or send me a PM! Can't play right now, but I'd love to play Smash with you guys again soon.

I'm a life-long Republican. I believe in the limited government principles of Ronald Reagan and Calvin Coolidge. And yet, I do not intend to vote for Donald Trump in 2024. I think he is a demagogue, a self-interested power seeker, and a threat to the Constitution that conservative Republicans used to say was important to them.

I do believe that inflation would go down with effective conservative leadership, and yet I am also aware that other powerful entities, such as the Federal Reserve and the Congress, bear even more responsibility for inflation than the President does.

True. Could be a good choice next time around! His hair is darker too which fits with my dark brown hair, and I like Zack about equally with Cloud as a character.

The real problem last year is that this party was so gaming-illiterate that basically no one there would have known who Zack was, so I couldn't have really told them "I'm Zack Fair." At least Cloud is in Smash and Kingdom Hearts, which ups his notoriety to some extent, but Zack is mainly known to gamers and FF fans.

True, but there was a reason for that. The particular party I was going to had about two people who knew who Cloud Strife was. I thought the anime wig would be kind of goofy to these types of people. When I get a chance to wear it again, I will do it right and get a wig.

For what it is worth, I actually tried to spike my hair with a gallon of hair gel, in order to at least be faithful to the spirit of FFVII, but I didn't have a lot of success in getting it to stay up. My barber told me it was too thick and long and I would need to seriously cut it up if I wanted to have good spikes, and I didn't think it was worth it for a single costume party.

Again, next time around, I'll do it right and get a character-accurate wig for the character. Wish I could have used it this year, but sadly there was no occasion to since none of my friends are hosting any Halloween costume parties.

Sadly, no Halloween parties to go to this time around. But it was a great costume nonetheless! Still have it, but I haven't been able to use it since last Halloween.

If I ever go to a Comic Con, I'll need to whip it out again and get a wig so that I can be a better representation of Cloud specifically and not just a person in a SOLDIER uniform with a Buster Sword, lol.

Thanks! Normally, I'm not much for hats. I have nice hair and don't like hat hair. But I do think a fedora can complement my dressy clothes well, and on a cold day a nice hat can keep your head warm or keep the snow from landing on your hand.

The problem with fedoras is that most guys who wear them do not let them accompany a nice suit or a nice jacket. That gives it more of the "hipster" look than the James Dean or Humphrey Bogart look that it should be associated with.

Id have loved to, but unfortunately I dont have any occasion for a costume this year. I moved for a new job back in July, so the yearly costume parties that my graduate school program used to do are no longer in order. Id have actually liked to whip out the Cloud Strife costume again this year, if I had a place to wear it. Maybe I can go to a Comic Con with it one of these days.

Wish I could wear my awesome Cloud Strife outfit (which got a ton of positive reviews here at CE last year around this time) but I don't really have an occasion to wear it this year, unfortunately!

I'm falling asleep and doing nothing but misinputs and other similar nonsense now, so I'm going to call it a night. Thanks for playing though, and I did enjoy the ZSS matches with both of you guys.

Wondering why the Ledge Drop > Climhazard ended in a suicide. Usually he grabs the ledge when you do that. Maybe I drifted slightly to the left or something.

Cloud eh

Seems like I'm pretty rusty with him now. He's a secondary character that I don't spend as much time with as I used to. Might experiment with another secondary in the next match and then play a couple more as ZSS.

Ive been away from Smash for a bit to focus on teaching my college classes, but I have some free time this evening and could play if anyone here is open to it!

Im a Zero Suit Samus main, but Cloud is a strong secondary.

Im a college Professor. Pretty white collar, but Im happier for it. Im not at a desk a hundred percent of the time, but Im not doing menial labor either. Its an amazing job if you want to spend time in the world of books and still get a lot of excellent human interaction.

Yesterday, I was in Costco looking to replace my 32' HDTV, which was not a smart TV but served me well while I was in my last place. But I moved to a pretty big apartment and, in the master bedroom, such a small TV is terrible from across the room. I decided to pick up a 48' model, and invested in one that was a really massive step up from the last one. OLED screen, Smart TV, and 4K resolution. I've been playing my PS5 and Switch on it and it is an unbelievable step up from a 1080p 32' in. Anyone else have an OLED TV?

For sure, we'll have to get some games in. I'm actively trying to play other characters and drop zss, but I'll happily play some vs you. The zss ditto, especially on wifi, is pretty whacky.

But why in the world would you want to drop such an exciting and stylish character as ZSS?

Today wasnt a good day for anything Smash-related but it would be great if we could play tomorrow or in the coming days, whenever you are available.

My schedule is pretty flexible right now, so Smash should be easier these next few weeks. Im a new Professor and, while I have some prep work to do for my courses this semester and also need to wrap up my Ph.D. dissertation, most of my class planning has been handled and my first day of class isnt until Aug. 28th. Things will heat up then since Ill be on-campus teaching and doing other things as well. But in the meanwhile hopefully I can get some good Smash rounds in with other CE fellows.

You did pretty good, ZSS is a very slippery character so it's hard to pin her down but I have some MU knowledge thanks to NightmarishPie who plays her.

I noticed that against Lucario I really struggled to land the stuns, either the down smash or the paralyzer gun, and hence really had a hard time snagging kills. Not sure why he felt so slippery (but, like you said, that's a classic ZSS feature too so I can hardly complain). Probably just need more matchup experience, so hopefully we can play again sometime.

I think I'm done for tonight man. I've really slowed down and am making a lot of dumb decisions and flat out input errors right now. Thanks for the fun and interesting games though. There were a lot of really good ones tonight. Your Marth and Lucario are both very good, though I feel that I struggled more against Lucario because that's definitely a matchup I'm weak on and I don't have a great strategy for dealing with that character.

Well, I gave up on anyone making themselves available to play tonight and went to do other things. I'm just about to cook and eat dinner but I'd love to play in about thirty or forty minutes when I'm all done eating. Is that alright?

I think it is considerably worse than FFXII. FFXV, though very flawed and disappointing, is better than FFXVI in some important respects. I hate that FFXVI makes me feel like for every two steps forward it takes two steps back. It is more complete than FFXV, but it lacks its heart and loses something in its desire to be dark edgy mature. The gameplay is also very uninspired and makes FFXV look better in comparison.
