I have an autistic cousin. Having an austic son is very draining mentally. She is asked to have patience from society but not the return. I know this issue is delicate but school systems everywhere are underfunded to handle austic children. My cousin did way worse than this kid here but not to an authority figure. I'll skip the details but some really lack the reasoning on why they see this as wrong. Their view of the world is fractured at best.

Here's the harsh reality - nobody gives a damn.

Everyone has their own problems, disorders, health, etc.

I have taught plenty of autistic students, and they've all been good kids.

It it is true that a lot of people with autism literally cannot understand aspects of people or social culture, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. No one cares.

You have to find the ways to cope and interact properly, and the parent has failed to do that.

I was a high school teacher. I'll tell you, if an IEP was actually being ignored, the ability to prove that lies solely with the parent and student.

IEPs/504s in high school are usually written to be quite vague in an effort to "take the training wheels off" to try and treat them like normal kids before they exit high school.

Also, most IEPs (speaking as a former English teacher) contain only the following accommodations:
1. Extended time
2. Preferential seating
3. Chucked assignments
4. Separate seating for testing

That's basically it. There's a few exceptions. All other forms of accommodations are illegal. (At least in NC.)

She had a strong start at the beginning, blaming a combination of her son's disability and his medication, but then we get to the end and she starts to rattle off how everyone else in society is at fault and she just loses me.

Do dishes while working
Meal prep while working
Work in whatever attire you want
Work at a desk or on your couch
Blast music whenever you want
No forced office politics
Travel and work

There's literally no benefit to working in an office if your job can be done remotely. You get so much more of your life back.

I was hired remote to start for over a month, then moved to the town the company is in (they paid for it), then we went hybrid (2 days WFH). And one two of our team members are fully remote, while the CMO and Lead Account Manager are also mostly remote.

All of us could easily do our jobs remotely.

It's annoying af.

Not to mention we opened a new office and my commute went from 2 minutes to 15 minutes.

I'm single, but I made $46,000 as a teacher (now I make $55,000 in marketing). Two different areas of NC. One in an urban area. The new job in the coastal plains.

I actually have the exact same amount of money now as I did when I was teaching because the cost of living is so much higher near the coast.

That's what I get a year working in corporate in America. 80 hours of PTO. That's 10 days.

Not my favorite, but it's pretty high quality.

All of the 80s horror references, especially all the Stephen King stuff, are great.

The Dear Billy episode just might be one of the best episodes of television in history.

My only big complaint is the introduction of popular characters to then just be killed off by the end of the season, and then plot armor for some characters.

Spider-Man 2 is an 8/10.

The big surprise was FF16 getting snubbed for GoTY for Spider-Man 2 instead.

I was an English - Professional Writing major, and I minored in film studies and journalism.

I then got a teaching license and certification for Secondary ELA Education.

I was a teacher. Recently left to be a copywriter. I don't know a single person at my company that could do my job. At all. And I saw a ton of teachers crash and burn, too. People tend to think they are good at something until put to the test or they meet someone who is better than them at it.

I would struggle with any math or organizational-type job. But I would never struggle in a communications-type job or in education.

Different strokes for different folks.

Good luck with breaking the lease. I'd go ahead and spend a solid 15 minutes reading over the fine print in your lease before actually talking to your leasing office about it.

Spoilers, you're probably fucked in terms of trying to get out without paying big fees/penalties. Apartment lease verbiage has been built by lawyers almost solely around the reality that anybody living at an apartment complex is going to want to up-and-move at some point in time in the not-too-distant future. And the fact that when you want to move is likely not going to line up nicely with your lease term. At least this is what I'm used to having lived at solely bigger complexes...which I'm guessing is the same for you if you're saying you have a "property manager". If it's an actual management company that owns your complex anybody working in the leasing office likely can't even cut you a "break" regardless if they'd like to help you or not.

I've already spoke to them. I'm thinking about talking to the now Property Manager who was my leasing agent when I moved in.

But it's basically a charge of your month's rent, plus 60 days worth of rent. So it's essentially 3 months rent, which is right at $2600 for me. I was given $3000 for relocation assistance, so it's not too terrible, in comparison to most places.

Yeah. The more I think about it, the more I'm considering hiring movers.

I do have the money, for sure. I'm just not used to spending money, so it's a mental obstacle for me, I suppose.

And I think I may talk to the woman who is now the Property Manager to see if she'll cut me a deal once I have an official move-in date. I had a lot of issues with plumbing in this apartment, and I've been a good tenant, so maybe she'll make an exception for me because I've been here for 4 years.

my advice: you might have more than you think. adds up quick when you start packing.
other advice: don't move with just you and one student. hire some people. moving sucks, but you can make it suck less.

Unfortunately every moving company around me is charging close to $1500 for moving, and that's just not an option.

Hi all!

I've recently accepted a new job after leaving teaching. I'm currently remote, but I'm moving about 3 hours from my current location to be at headquarters 4 days a week (remote every Wednesday).

I've never done a move before with an apartment that I've been established at for 4 years. The only significant move I've done was in college but everything could fit it my car.

I have a one bedroom apartment. I don't own a ton of stuff. It's mainly just like my couch, 2 TVs, my ultra wide monitor,, my gaming consoles, my bed frame, mattress, washer/dryer, kitchen stuff, my computer desk, my ottoman, a couple end tables, and my clothes.

My company gave me $3000 foe relocation, but most of that is just to break my current lease. So, I guess Uhaul is the best option? I would be towing my car with their car trailer things.

Any advice for boxes, packing, towing a car, etc. would greatly be appreciated. I think one of my former students (who is 21 now) will be helping me, but otherwise, it's just me.

I get my full synthetic oil change and new oil filter for like $54 at Walmart and it takes 30 minutes.

I know nothing about cars and have no desire to learn. I just want something to get me from one place to another. Could not care less what it looks like.

Couple reasons:

-the last few flops weren't particularly good movies to begin with

-theaters still haven't recovered post-covid

-theater tickets are more expensive now so people are more selective of what movies to see. can't really just see a movie on a whim right now.

Thing is, even movies that are bad or "mid," tend to make money. There was a time where box office bombs were exceptionally rare. Now, they're becoming the norm.

So did the Super Mario Bros movie.

Good movies with good reviews tend to do great.

Super Mario Bros. had a great marketing campaign behind it. The movie itself... eh. Didn't like it.

Didn't even know Evil Dead Rise was in theaters, honestly. But that's not surprising. Horror movies tend to do well because the budget for them is usually lower, except for like IT Chapter 1 and IT Chapter 2.

Dial of Destiny is set to bomb, Element bombed, Flash bombed, Black Adam bombed, etc.

The only major films that released exclusively in theaters this year so far that didn't bomb were Scream 6 and Across the Spider-Verse.

What do you think the reason is?

We've seen modern films do really well, like Scream 6, Avatar The Way of Water, etc. But the majority of recent releases are losing companies millions of dollars.

I think it's a combination of factors. People are getting spoiled and it's convenient to have something to watch on a streaming service at home. I think it's also fatigue for having seen the same thing over and over. Puss and Boots 2 received glowing reviews and did way better than it was expected to, so it seems audiences are finally wanted to see something original and want to see less superheroes and nonsense.

Or is it the economy and the insane prices at the theater for a family to go for a 2 hour event?

It's sad. At this rate, theaters will die. I much prefer going to the theater (alone) than to have the distraction of being able to pull my phone out or go to the kitchen or whatever without missing anything.
