I been subbing myself since 2017, and can you full time teachers agree with me that it seems giving kids a labtop has destroyed there attention spans even further? As a sub half the time is making sure they are not playing a game or watching a movie, and with all the ways to ask each other for questions its become rather insane how hard it is to make sure the kids are in fact doing there own work.

Without taking the labtops away I feel most students feel that school is all about who has the clout and they know it, hence why its in such a pitiful state, ugh.

When I was 6 years old I was reading the newspaper and encyclopedias. I wasn't a bookworm by any means and still enjoyed doing kid stuff, but the concept of being "on reading level" was foreign to me. My mother is a retired teacher and she was always on me about reading. These children are constantly two to four grades behind on reading level. I can't blame COVID, I look at the parents, because why is your 7th grader reading on an elementary level?

My sister is super passionate about history and became a high school history teacher. Spent more time trying to get kids to listen and behave then she got to actually talk about and teach interesting topics. She quit after 2 years lol

Hmm, that's pretty similar to my situation. I'm also currently in year two, contemplating making this my last year.

I taught 7th grade last year and they were feral, I'm in 5th grade now and see the same behaviors on a slightly lower scale (at least the primary school kids arent vaping and fucking, on campus). I love my coworkers and admin but it's the student behavior that is abhorrent.

It'd be great if I could just teach curriculum and not focus so much on disciplinary issues.

I feel the same way. I'm from southeast Texas so I'm used to spicy Cajun/Creole cuisine, Chinese food (especially Sichuan) fits the bill. Japanese food is good but I like a little more spice.

Don't just say anything without the real research. The term "Pit Bull" is a catchall term to laymen that places four different breeds under one umbrella, or any dog that happens to "look" like one for that matter. To be an actual Pit Bull the dog has to have a direct pedigree lineage from a historic pit fighting dog, no admixture in, American Pit Bull Terriers and American Staffordshire Terriers are the only ones that fit that bill (AmStaff was the original show line APBT for the AKC).

Even in the case APBTs and AmStaffs, they have been separated long enough to be considered the working (APBT) vs show line (AmStaff). They have different drive in a way that a show Husky compared to an Alaskan Husky, the former wouldn't even last on the Iditarod.

American Bullies are much larger and often have mastiff crossed in, they are not Pit Bulls no matter what people may try to tell you. They have been bred for appearance and size.

At HBCUs and majority black high schools the bands typically perform 5th quarter performances where they go head to head, usually three songs. All of this could have been avoided with better communication. If the home school didn't want to perform the 5th quarter then it should have been made clear to pack it up at the end of the game.

KFC has some dry ass chicken. All fast food chicken spots have taken a dip in quality but Popeye's is the best (especially the ones in southern Louisiana)

You can't phase out human irresponsibility and stupidity, that's as old as the human species. Enforce common sense laws, I've mentioned a few.

License and provide permanent identification for your pets.
Require leash laws.
Require spaying/neutering if the dog is not a part of a responsible breeding program.
Procure your pet ethically and from a credible source (that means no backyard breeders who just breed for appearance and color without regard to health and temperament)

Provide perks for licensing, incentivize it by providing perks to owners who license their pets. Participating local retailers could provide a discount. Give a "free ride home" for microchipped dogs, some animal service agencies already do this. Focus on education of the owners and target high risk behavior towards dogs (i.e leaving children unattended with dogs, not having dogs on a leash), children should also know how to interact with dogs (i.e don't pull, grab or climb on dogs).

This is the main problem, breeding for profit and fads. Ethical breeders tend to barely break even after medical testing, shows, testing for congenital disorders, etc. I know pocket bully breeders that sell deformed puppies for thousands of dollars a pop.

Actual working American Pit Bull Terriers (not the curs people like to say are Pit Bulls based on appearance) are very trainable, they they want to work. Because of their bull and terrier ancestry they are animal aggressive, but should never be human aggressive, the two are completely different traits. Where people get into trouble is again where I mentioned that a lot of folks get a dog they can't handle and don't properly socialize. I know my lifestyle can't accommodate certain breeds, but a lot of people are ignorant.

It's not about stopping dog attacks. It's about stopping the most dangerous and frequent dog attacks. I know full well that completely eliminating bad things is a pipe dream. We can regulate breeding to breed out traits.

You do that by putting the onus on owners. It is their responsibility to properly manage and contain their animals. It also takes common sense to know what kind of dog you are getting and just saying no. The worst thing you can do is get a breed and not have the ability to accommodate it or understand the kind of drive that it has. I'm a very experienced owner, I know with my lifestyle I can't handle a Belgian Malinois (one of the most hardcore, high drive working breed around), but the average inexperienced owner would get one and be way over their heads with a potential nightmare on their hands.

I think we need to revisit what we consider "responsible" breeding given that sickly dog breeds exist for no good reason other then "people want them and think they're cute".

Responsible in the sense that the parents are temperament tested, titled either in show and/or working, tested for genetic defects, CGC (canine good citizen), etc. Not breeding for exaggerated features is also important.

It doesn't fucking matter if any dog can be bred to do that. Pit bull-types have already been ruined, so eliminate them and strictly regulate dog breeding so that there isn't any widespread ownership of dogs bred to be super aggressive.

Here's the thing, you can accomplish that goal without breed bans by enforcing laws that are already in place. Enforce leash laws, require proper containment of animals, and dogs that aren't part of a responsible breeding program should be spayed/neutered is a start.

Breed bans are ineffective at stopping dog attacks, it's like chasing the moon, you aren't going to get there. At that point you might as well only allow Yorkshire Terriers.

There's no way to determine the exact total population for any breed as popular as GSDs and Bull breeds. That 6 percent is definitely not true though, GSDs and Bull breeds are among the most common in the states, especially in the cities.

These are dogs that are often outcrossed with mastiffs. XL bullies are often heavier than my Corso (which is an actual mastiff).

Language evolves, but lets not act like a lot of these terms just appeared from the aether on Twitch though. Words like "bussin" is from the regional Geechee AA subculture, "finna" is universal in AAVE, "deadass" is another regional AA term from NY.

They took most of it from AAVE anyway, things like "bussin" is a Gullah Geechee term. African-Americans have been saying "finna" since forever.

A good teacher has students listening attentively gathered round them at all times. A kid will come to school sick, just to learn from the cool fun wise teach. Kids aren't badly behaved, disciplinarians don't know how to teach now they can't hit kids anymore.

Be a kid's friend. Show them the wonder of the world. Make learning fun and engaging 100% of the time, like a pixar movie is, or a really cool game of among us is. Challenge the establishment. Allow kids the space to explore what school should be. Let children cherish....and then a teacher will transform.....

Do you work in the classroom? If not then you have no idea. Kids already have short attention spans (they're kids!), couple that with a personal computer in their pocket that they're literally addicted to then it becomes a problem. No matter how interesting or engaging a lesson or assignment might be, the urge to pull out that phone to browse TikTok is overpowering. They all have Chromebooks if they need access to the internet anyway.

Also, I'm not there to be their friend. I may wear many different hats depending on a student's individual needs. They may confide in me if they're having problems, or talk to me about anime or games etc. during downtime, but I'm not on the level of "friend" because I am the adult and have to maintain that level of professionalism. A professional boundary must be there, that's how a lot of teachers at secondary level get caught up.

Letting a 16 year old handle a Porsche is irresponsible. Even if it's a Carrera that's just too much car, esp. with the rear engine setup.
