They're like the worst offender of making you sign up just to read their site. Or were, until recent twitter changes. Sure I could sign up, but why do I need to, especially when I don't really care to browse the site but can't be helped sometimes when it's always coming up in my google results? The way they started deceptively putting suggested/sponsored posts in the same part of the layout where you used to be able to read answers without logging in also leaves a bad taste in my mouth

One thing I will say about that is that you may find yourself changing your mind when you move out. I had quite a few issues with my mom when I was living with her, and while those aren't gone, per se, the fact that I only have to consider them as a detached third party instead of living with them every day is a lot better for both my mental health and my ability to try to understand where she's coming from (mostly the consequences of her mother abusing her) and work within that framework so we can both be happier. Sometimes, people are really unpleasant to live with (and in your case, if you also worked for him, that's even more exposure and you wouldn't have been able to take advantage of the primary means by which people get a break from problematic cohabitants), but can be fine or even enjoyable in small doses.

Of course, it's also possible that some distance will change absolutely nothing and you'll just be glad to be away. Your mileage may vary. Just try to keep in mind the role that being frustrated by immediate exposure is playing in how you feel overall.

I agree. It really seemed like inmates running the asylum, so I blame the mods letting it turn as a toxic as it did. They set the tone. They should all be canned for their terrible job of doing their task objectively. What compounds it further with the fact it was a special board, they didn't even have explain what you said that got you in trouble and you couldn't contest it. So you couldn't even be sure what part of what you said was the issue. If I had a massive post where I covered several topics...which was the problem?...oh you didn't tell me so I guess I left to assume the issue was I said something opposed the mainstream narrative and that's WRONG.

Things were so grossly biased as you could call rightwingers anything under the sun. It's completely fine suggest an entire half of the country is nothing by various -ist and the mods will treat it that like fact.(I've reported posts to test it, and they remain.) Say anything that isn't positive toward a left wing group or politician...trolling. The moment you weren't in lockstep with the current narrative for the left, you were trolling which was such a nebulous clause to be modded for. It's gotten be such a vague catch all anything a mod feels is trolling can be appied to basically any post they feel like. I feel this needs much tighter terms of how it's applied and actual examples of X statement is trolling and explain why. There's no letter of the law here, it's completely subjective and done with impunity.

The most bogus of that "trolling" is misinformation,as like what creditals do these mods have that they are fit to judge was is factual? I doubt any of them are remotely that well informed to make that call in earnest or have some area of expertise that they can personally speak at length about a subject well enough to say with 100% certainty it's false information. Seriously how many masters or higher degrees in any subject run around as mods here?..I'm guessing less than 1% but I'm expected trust their judgment when I could very well be far better informed than they are. If we were allowed debate I'd happily prove it. Everything about the concept of misinformation is again completely subjective to the knowledge(or lack of) of the person reviewing it.

This is a super dangerous mentality as means no can challenge any mainstream view. So if the powers that be are actually lying(Which happens way too often as of late as current events are proving.) we are not allowed to even discuss this fact. I find everything about this intellectually dishonest , as the real way prove something is true or false is to DEBATE IT. Not just take someone else's word for it and slap a factcheck on something and assume they're right even when they might not be. We aren't allowed question things or you're crazy.

Until CNN or another official outlet says it's true, you're going get modded saying it if it makes the left look bad. Take the Hunter Biden Laptop, which was factual that is existed from day 1. But until the mainstream news talked about it, you were spreading misinformation if you mentioned it at all.(Which I have experienced) The mods it got completely wrong, but it's ok when they do it. Regardless of how you felt about it, you weren't allowed mention it's existence despite the New York Post had a breaking story on it that big tech moved heaven and earth to discredit. 50 intelligence community personalities lied to say was Russian disinformation despite it wasn't. If you see a huge concerted effort bury something, that means we really should look at it to be certain of what it is, not oh just ignore it as this site seems think is the prevailing wisdom. This should be a huge red flag and we as Americans should definitely be able to discuss that because people had an agenda to silence the truth. I don't care what your politics are do you really want people deciding for you what is acceptable to talk about or not? I am grown adult and I don't need someone doing it for my own good.

So yeah I found this board failed horribly as outlet where people could actually have political discussions in earnest. You were only allowed see one side of things, and even when people who weren't rightwingers said anything that wasn't part of the narrative they got an avalanche of other posters calling them various rightwing slurs. There's no nuance as let's boil everything down to two positions...Mine and that of people who are evil.

Despite everything I said wrong with it, I actually still had a use for the board as it. I could glance at it easily look into the minds of all the leftist nonsense and take a temperature of the situation without having talk to anyone or probe for further information. They gave me everything I'd want to know for free effortlessly. It's great intel into the minds of the left. I did my best not engage and just lurk, but I'd periodically let my passions get the better of me.

I mostly blamed myself if I got modded near the end. As they say in, War games,"The only way to win is not to play." I knew the probability of it happening was like 60% chances everytime I posted anything there. I had say a lot in the fewest words possible to have any hopes of expressing myself, and even walking on eggshells I still found myself in trouble too often. I had refrain from saying more as the moment I bothered to expand on anything I said I typically got reported and nailed so it wasn't worth it. The peanut gallery felt their views were correct since I couldn't actually reply back. Like no the powers that be just are siding with you which is not remotely the same thing. Again this kind of thing just fostered a wretched environment and only most delusional think it was a reasonable and fair place actually discuss politics in good faith.

I can see why new management would nix it as it's probably where the bulk of the moderations happen at. If they want to retain people on this site, that can't continue at the pace it likely does. The issue it opens for me is we will likely see more trojan horse topics to spread the politics topics in most loosely adjactant ways. You see this on the comic forum, as as a few people they try force their politics into the realm of comics by saying, oh "this actor who plays X MCU character has views we don't agree with" so let's make a topic about it. What this actually has to do with comics...NADA but the mods allow it happen. In the event you try push back against you would get modded despite the topic shouldn't have been there in the first place as it violates the spirit of the board.

I'm tired of left wing politics invading every sphere on my nerddom to which I am expected to just tolerate it or remain silent. (Such as comics, movies, & magic cards.) I just wanted to be a nerd and discuss what are my favorite moments in star wars, or what hero can kick what hero's butt in a verus thread. They keep invading my clubhouses and telling me I was never a real fan after they turn what I love into trash. I wanted nothing do with politics as I vaguely paid attention to things for years until they forced my hand. I feel like I have to pay close attention to keep a hand on the wheel. I'd love to go back to my life where I could ignore most of it, but that doesn't seem to be the case anytime soon. I miss the days of just being a nerd.

All.that said, I'm going to assume you have an alt, because I never once saw you on 261, which makes your stances on the matter look quite suspicious.

Who's assuming? It was a vague statement, I've presented what I believe to be the two most likely interpretations as a means of communicating the current state of my understanding, and invited him to clarify. If anything, I'm making a definite effort not to assume anything.

I was a regular contributor to 261, until I tried to access the board today and got an error message saying that it is restricted to moderators only. It turned out that the management of Gamefaqs decided to permanently closed the forum. I used that forum to rant on certain topics that bother me, such as North Korea, gas prices, etc, but there are certain times that some of my topics were moderated because of trolling.

That said, I was disappointed that the politics board was shut down. But there are other sites where we could discuss this issue. This is certainly not one of them anymore.

This is better than Christmas!! 261 was a toxic wasteland of one-sided political opinion. While it would be nice to have a fair and free political board, where everyone can speak their minds, that wasn't what 261 was. And it was insulting to present it as such, to give the appearance that it was just your run of the mill place to discuss politics. No, it was a place that minority opinions were silenced and only certain posters could post freely. It was a horrible place that was a stain on Gamefaq. The echo chamber of delusion is finally Toast!

Your insistence on stating your position in the vaguest, least objectionable terms possible is telling me you probably don't actually have a particularly valid, reasonable position, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
