Seems kinda weird to declare like 90% of gaming's past to be its golden age.

The first generation was 72-77. The second and third generations were massive parts of video game history. This would be the fourth through seventh generation. We are currently on the ninth generation.

That is hardly 90% of gaming's past. A golden age is usually a wide range that defines a peak period for media. For example film making golden age is often considered 60's - 90's.

That and you have to consider marketing expenses, which are probably about as high as the budget.

It seems like around 88/89 was when gaming really took off, when it evolved past the simple 8-bit roots and progressed into more sophisticated games. Then I'd say around 12/13 was basically the last hurrah of the AAA industry when it was still creative and could produce great new games that didn't take forever to make.

I'm sure people will have their own thoughts on this, but this is how I feel.

Well this site does too, but it's more reliant upon having moderators bully anyone who doesn't fall in line. At least that's the way it is on the worst boards around here at least, politics board was notorious for that.

As much as I hate reddit, reddit. Most communities on this site are simply awful, and reddit has a lot more to offer.

I like gamefaqs as a research resource, but the forums here suck.

I drove to SF on Thursday with my kids (18 & 15) and a friend (15). We parked in a garage at Pier 19 and spent the day at the Exploratorium. I hate driving in the city, but otherwise it was quite nice. We had a good day.

SF is fine if you're in the most touristy locations like that.

I agree with u, the last few new games I have gotten have felt empty, no soul and just focused on silly tasks. Nothing like older games.

It feels like most games these days just try to copy the same few popular current trends.

It's also like the graphics might be better than ever these days, but something has definitely been lost as they focus on these mega-budget multi-year development projects.

It is one of those games I either have to keep playing for one long session or struggle to get back into because the controls are the type of thing I need a refresher for.

Older games are better, its a fact. Look at all these companies making remakes just to stay in business.

That's part of the reason why I feel like I could just stop paying attention to the latest video games and not really miss out on anything anymore.

Half the games they're trying to hype up are just re-releases of games I already got.

As an outsider who doesn't enjoy multiplayer at all and only plays single player games, I'd say it's more a getting older/"it was better back in my days" kinda thing. Everything changes over time.

I think one thing that really changed as I got older is I stopped caring about trying to compete with other gamers or how I could stack up against the competition. Now a days I just couldn't care less how great or bad I am at a game compared to other people. I am just looking to do my own thing and unwind most of the time, and the last thing I usually want to deal with is having to play a game at someone else's pace.

Yeah it's kinda true that the internet pretty much had it's own culture back in the day that has been lost today. Now a days it's just all about the same old lame memes.

That and it felt like people were a lot more willing to just connect with strangers back then. Like I could just go to some chat room or play some game and instantly connect with some random people and start chatting it up. Nobody really does that anymore.

GameFAQs used to be a mix of normal people and others. Most of the normal people have gone on to live normal lives without new normal people to replace them since GameFAQs is a dying website.

This site used to be able to attract normal people, because it was just a gaming site for normal people. As the weird cliques and aggressive fanbases started taking hold, normal people got scared off. Now this board is full of people most people try to avoid.

This is usually what happens in echo chambers.

All even slightly opposing viewpoints get blown out of proportion, and thus get the users modded or banned. Because the majority who dislikes said viewpoints are hateful people masking their hate and discontent with their own life as virtue and care about others.
So now you just have a bunch of bitter people with so few users to throw their hate and discontent at that they look for news outside of the forum (Personal experience or news stories, etc.) to be upset about because the online space has become

So now they're not only bitter, but they're also extremely bored with no opposition, hence looking for stuff to be angry about because if left alone to their own thoughts, they become bitter. Only at that point, they're beating themselves up.

This is why CE's basically a glorified daycare for middle aged people. Even the smallest opposition can get you modded, and have you labeled a racist or other slur even though what you said wasn't realistically that bad, if at all.

Seems fitting how a board for man-children would become a daycare.

As a Floridian, I can tell you that our highway systems have been absolute shit since I moved here in the mid 90's. Bush, Crist, Scott, DeSantis. Just 25 years of shit tier governorship.

Californian checking in, and it takes an eternity to get anything done here, with projects always going way over-budget and taking far longer than they should. Heck it took them about 30 years just to repair the Bay Bridge!
