I guess it depends on what your job entails. For my work, one employee being late directly impacts everyone else.

If there is a grace period, it is not considered late. I worked in a retail company before and we could punch in up to 5 minutes before our scheduled shift and up to 5 minutes past our scheduled shift. Nobody ever got in trouble for it.

If op had an 8 am shift but punched in at 8:06, he would be late. Anything before that is not late.

The amount of shilling people in this thread people do for companies is hilarious. If store leadership says there is a 5 minute grace period, you dont need to punch in on time. As long as its within 5 minutes, its fine. if anything, Id say people in this thread are jealous their workplace might not offer that.

I used to have 1 hour lunches on my first job. I hated it so much. Why would anyone want to stay an extra hour at work ?

How are you going to get the entire country to just stop tipping? All you're doing until you accomplish that is hurting people who aren't at fault for the situation. You need to go directly at the people who are responsible and hurt their wallet. And you need to do with laws and force behind those laws. Not a single one of these companies gives a fuck if their drivers don't get tipped. It's the same reason Amazon doesn't mind firing thousands of people every week. There are always more desperate saps to exploit.

By electing politicians who would commit to raising the minimum wage and removing the independent contractor bs so they can have the save benefits as all other employees of the organization. If Im not mistaken that independent contractor bs was not upheld in the UKs courts.

Those companies would care if people would stop tipping. Nobody would do these gig jobs because the pay sucks so the only solution would be for the companies to increase their pay or fold.

That literally is the only solution. Tipping is designed to be exploitive. Why do you think tipping culture is only a thing in America ? These companies (Uber, Lyft, doordash etc..) dont even consider the delivery person an employee but an independent contractor so they dont offer them any benefits as well.

If you support tipping, you shill for companies because it proves they can afford to pay the worker the lowest amount possible since they know the consumer will pick up the slack.

If everyone stopped tipping, companies will either be forced to increase their worker wages or be shut down.
