Assuming the countdown "hits 0", which may not even happen, all that youtube does it put some overlay on top of the video, that's...wait for it...blockable by ublock origin.

Honestly this is a bad approach. You're better off sticking to one trustworthy blocker (ublock origin is currently probably the best one out there), instead of installing random less known crap. Otherwise you're going to end up with an extension that the developer sells it off to some unscrupulous individual that pushes an update that turns it into malware. This in particular is a common problem with Chrome. And highlights why the less is more mantra is important with browser extensions.

Why would they say install instead of purchase? Reeks of genius CEO activity, coming at problems from a new angle.
Personally it feels like they're targeting F2P with this.

Installs would include F2P games with microtransactions, where as purchases I imagine wouldn't unless you made some sort of sub-clause to rope them in. Not to mention the majority of F2P player base doesn't ever do any purchases, so using installs could produce a significantly larger revenue stream.

Considering that the Team Ico games were first party games, the only way that gets on steam is if you're manually adding an emulator to steam. And as far as the remake goes, it's likely years before any of the PS4 emulators (which apparently are actually a thing now) have it at a playable state.

And Ueda's next game, whenever it gets released (based on past history maybe in 15 years?) looks to be an Epic Store exclusive if it gets a PC release, since Epic Games is fully funding it.

My vote would be for one of the games that have no ending, and which just keep getting harder as you go until they become impossible. Those would technically be infinitely long.
If they progress to a point where it's technically impossible to continue, that would qualify as an ending, and as such they aren't infinitely long. Sure, you can replay the game at that point, but that's not really different at that point from replaying a game with a more defined ending.

GEKGanon posted...
The modern inhabitants of England experience the benefits of their long-ago ancestors being invaded by Romans first, and Normans later.

The modern inhabitants of Germany experience the benefits of their ancestors having lost two wars of aggression twice.

The modern inhabitants of South Korea experience the benefits of their ancestors having suffered a war that tore their country in two.
The argument that people experience benefits from past tragedies is reliant on knowing how history would unfold if the tragedy hadn't happened in the first place. As there is no way to know how history would unfold if the tragedies never happened in the first place, your argument has no merit because you cannot prove that there is a benefit that was derived from the tragedy that wouldn't exist if the tragedy had never occurred in the first place.

On that note, while WWII might of been a catalyst for your grandparents meeting/having a child, you have no way to prove that they wouldn't have met/led to your existence for other reasons if WWII never happened.

Why use Threads when there's literally thousands of better instances of Mastodon?
Same reason most people don't use Linux. Mastodon focuses on ideological values over usability that precludes it from ever becoming a viable option for mass adoption.

ParanoidObsessive posted...
This is sort of indicative of what I mentioned in the other topic on this subject.

There are tons of Twitter alternatives out there... but while people who are terminally online may know about most of them and have opinions of which one is better and why, the average person living in the real world (which are still making up the vast majority of users for social media sites, even if their reading/posting habits are more casual) has never heard of any of them. So there's never going to be a concerted push to switch platforms no matter how terrible Twitter might become or how much people come to hate it. At least not until one of the alternatives manages to establish itself as a clear alternative that is both popular and massive.
I'd argue the bigger issue was more that there wasn't a viable alternative to migrate to at the point that the initial Twitter outrage peaked last year. Mastodon gained an initial upsurge in usage, but it was never going to be and never will be a viable replacement to Twitter. And none of the other potentially legitimate alternatives were mature enough at that point to be able to capitalize on Musk's idiocy.

That being said, as long as Musk is around it's not a matter of if Twitter will fail but when. Musk is a terrible leader and the only reason that his other companies succeeded is due to them having a team that limited Musk's ability to directly manage the company...something Twitter doesn't have. It may not currently be obvious to the average user, but Musk is systematically destroying everything that made Twitter valued in the first place in the quest of short gain profit.

The mismanagement of MySpace/Digg/LiveJournal/Photobucket/Tumblr led to their failure, and Twitter's following the same path. Long term Reddit might be as well.

Irrelevant. The way the law's currently crafted it oversteps the boundaries of state rights and likely infringes on first amendment rights. The government's ability to dictate government contracts has nothing to do with this. As people use TikTok to express themselves, the issue of the government banning it is the argument that they are essentially controlling how people are able to express themselves.

The most likely end result of this law is Montanans having to pay more in taxes to foot the multi-million dollar lawsuit after the state fails to defend itself from lawsuits on its legality.

Dikitain posted...
It isn't a cop-out, it is simply that someone is going to challenge it and it is going to be ruled unconstitutional. I am not going to complain about a law that obviously has no chance of sticking around long enough to matter.
The poll question is: "Think it's a Good Idea? (Poll Question)" The third option is answering an entirely different question "Do you think the law will last (yes/no)". It's a cop-out in that it allows you sidestep around the original question. It also highlights pionear's habit of constructing poor poll choices (something that he is by no means alone in being guilty of).

It's annoying how many high quality restaurants I've ate at and thought this food would be so much better if the salt wasn't dominating the other flavors (I swear I'm one of the few people that exist that doesn't like the flavor of salt...not particularly fond of overly sweet flavors either).
