With the prize money I received from you, I picked up Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of DANA and honestly, within the first hour, I can safely say that I'm very much enjoying it.

Can see myself pouring a good amount of time into this one, 100%

For what it's worth I only bothered with buying the DLC because an outfit unlocker I wanted to use for outfits that didn't get ported to Steam has the side effect of unlocking ALL DLCs instead of just the missing outfits and I didn't want to be a filthy DLC thief on Steam, so if that's not a factor to you at all then the DLC is 100% skippable.

@synklare

@Kircheis

Yeah, I decided to pick it up in the end mate. It was either that or Bravely and I figured, having just picked up OT2 for myself and you sending me P4, I have quite a bit of Turn-based already, so something more action-centric would be a nice bit of mix-up basically.

Hoping I enjoy it, I imagine I will and then I'll need to have money ready to pick up Ys 9 too! Haha.

Still, a much cheaper and less time intrusive investment than something like Trails. Still on the agenda mind, but definitely something to consider perhaps by the holidays or maybe into next year.

Ys VIII is fun, make sure ya get the high quality texture pack if you do go for it.

I think this is the one I'm leaning towards the most. It looks fantastic and if I love it, would encourage me to get Ys 9 too.

It's also easier on the wallet too, with less games needing to be bought to enjoy the franchise.

Would you say I should go for all of the DLC as well or just the base game? It seems mostly like consumable items with a cosmetic item or two.

Did anyone splurge on anything for themselves? I bought the great Ace attorney chronicles. I can't wait to get started on a voiced phoenix wright game

I had money set aside to pick up one game, which was Octopath Traveller 2.

I had a little refund come in for something from Amazon, so, I also made use of the bundle feature on Steam to pick up Yakuza 6 Song of Life for 4, and after gifting someone on here Disgaea 2, I bought it for myself as well, listening to Invisible Zoon made me want to play D2 again as it's essentially Cyber Dance 2.0. I used the remaining refund to pick up Final Fantasy 8 (OG) as I was in a nostalgia mood.

Now, after winning a gift card at the end and having 13 in my wallet, I'm genuinely stuck on what to buy. I don't mind topping up a bit as I'm selling a few old games that'll cover the cost of that and more.

Do I get Trails of Cold Steel? Bravely Default II (Which I've wanted for a while) or do I get something like Ys VIII : Lacrimosa of Dana?

My gut says go with Bravely as I've wanted it technically since January, after the holiday sales ended, but a part of me wants to risk trying something I don't know if I'll like or not, which is why Trails and Ys VIII are in the equation too. BDII is a safe bet essentially, I know I'll like it.

Fallout 3, outside of atmosphere and world design, is to this day if you discount updates and DLC content, one of the worst entries into the franchise, hands down. Terrible writing, awful characters, weak morality system, garbage dialogue, shooting so poor that it's best played in VATS and, prior to the DLC, one of the worst and genuinely, most insulting endings I'd seen in a while, so bad they changed it I think after Broken Steel came out.

For me, it'll always be Fallout 2 > New Vegas > Fallout 1 > Tactics > Fallout 4 > Fallout 3 > 76 > Brotherhood of Shite.

Fallout 4 is just as bad as Fallout 3 in many key areas, it's simply ahead of it because the gunplay and moment to moment exploration / looting / junking was actually fairly well done. It's writing is legitimately just as bad and the dialogue was fucking terrible.

So, what are you all playing today?

I've had a weird big-bang-brain-hit, and now I'm in the mood to go and replay all of the old-school Final Fantasy games.

Right now, I'm playing FF8 which to this day is still one of my favourites (I love the junction system, fight me) but I'll need to wait until another sale hits to pick up FF7, FF9 and FF10 down the line. Triple Triad still rocks and I adore FF8's music too.

As crazy as it sounds, I'd love to attempt a marathon. FF10 is the only one I poured little time into, I don't remember liking it as much all of those years ago but I've never revisited it and given it another go.

Sorry to hear that, but I am glad that she did pull through. Yeah when my father died, all they did was call and ask us what we wanted to do as far as life saving techniques. Would have liked to hear something before he was dying such as his condition deteriorating to prepare us a little. Hospitals seem to forget that there are families behind their patients that need to be informed asap as to situations that are changing. We weren't happy in the least with how the hospital handled the call to us in the least. That was 2 years ago. I mean we knew he was in poor health, but there were no signs that we knew of him being in a perilous condition like that until they asked us to what extent we wanted them to try and save his life at 330 in the morning. I think due to COVID (due to the mass cases), a lot of hospitals really lost their touch as to how to talk to families about when their patients are in such a condition. I suppose on the flip side of the coin, is there really a good way to approach that?

Wishing nothing but the best for her!!

My condolences on your father, they definitely should have kept you in the know more, you may be onto something though with staff forgetting how to talk to and treat families during that period. I lost my nan to covid on Christmas Eve, 2021, during one of these gifting events. Was a really horrible situation, completely out of the blue, soured Christmas Eve entirely for me which sucks because heading to hers as a young lad with my father was always a big event, basically, she was always a positive memory around the holidays from my youth, losing her on that day of all days hit like a freight train.

I worry about my mother, two bouts of cancer, other health issues, she's weaker, less able to recover now. Something like a routine surgery causing complications like this with everything else that has happened to her in the last few years does fill me with worry.

Anyway, I don't wanna be a negative nancy in a topic that's meant to be positive, so I'm sorry for off-loading all of this stuff on people here. I appreciate any well wishes given to my mother from people here.

I'll drop it now.

Honestly, quitting smoking is one of the best things I've ever done.

My catalyst for going cold turkey (no supplies or help) was the realisation that I had to wash my hands anytime I wanted to hold my second, newborn son. I was using an e-cig during my first-born's entrance to the world so the smell of smoke, residue etc wasn't there and I wouldn't use it near him. Might not have been cig smoke but I'd still do it outdoors. I also used it less frequently because it replaced smoking to reduce consumption, which it did.

Went through a horrible chest infection, can't remember when but basically, I couldn't get my nicotine fix through the e-cig because it killed my chest. I ended up swapping back to cigs because they didn't effect me anywhere near as bad which made no sense. Anyway, yeah, second son was born and I hated that I stunk of cig smoke, needed to spray / change clothes and wash hands just to even hold my son, didn't want any of that near him, so I quit completely.

That reminds me, I bought Disgaea 5 Complete on Switch a few years ago and I never really got into it. Really should redownload it and actually play it one of these days. Probably not anytime soon, but eventually.

Honestly, outside of the characters (Which will be up to preference) the series has improved quite a lot over the years, with D5 playing and feeling fantastic in all honesty.

I don't know how it is on the Switch, but I'd recommend it on any platform where it runs well.

Such a fantastic game and D5 legitimately stole far too many of my hours. In fact, when I moved houses just prior to the pandemic, we had no internet at this property for just over two weeks. My go to game during that time on PS4? Disgaea 5, easy to get invested in and lose hours to.

Pick your most wanted game (up to $20), and provide a screenshot for said game. Tomorrow, I will pick my favorite screenshot, and the person who submitted it will win that game!

* The screenshot must come from the Steam Store's landing page*. No community/fan-taken screenshots
* Only one picture allowed, so choose wisely!
* Contest ends at 12pm (noon) eastern, Saturday July 8th, where I will then judge and pick a winner.

*For the screenshot, I will also accept screengrabs from trailers/videos on the Steam Store's landing page. You are relying on the game's marketing team to land you your prize.

I like screenshot contests, even if not posting my own lol, caught this luckily as I'm still tracking the topic.

Just for a laugh, I present to you..

Evening all.

Just checking in, seeing how things are with you guys.

With the event coming to a close soon, I'd like to express gratitude to those who have actively participated in our little gathering of gifts once again. As always, many a familiar face, nice to catch up with you all, however brief and however trivial, it's good to know you guys are still alive, well and kicking.

I haven't gifted as much as I have in past events and for that I am sorry, though I aim to change that come the holiday period later this year, provided this is up and running again.

Also, going to express thanks to @blistr for putting the time and effort into setting this up, maintaining the document consistently and of course, being as generous as you always are mate. I know you don't do it for clout, or recognition, admiration or anything of the sort, despite that, thank you, as always for your contribution to these events over the years.

Once again, thank you to everyone else that has participated too and for your kindness and generosity. Whilst all of us are in different financial situations, it's fair to admit that times are tough and taking money out of your wallet / purse, to spend it on strangers is admirable and recognised.

Bit of a TL:DR, but I'll be dipping out now and will return once the end hits for the drawing. I am open to Blistr doing my draw for me as he remains impartial and letting him inform me of the result, to which I'll send over a gift card to the winner.

Anyway, thank you all again.

Nex Machina is actually a very good game, made by Housemarque, the team behind the likes of Alienation, Dead Nation, Resogun and Returnal.

Definitely give it a look if you guys haven't already.

What's everybody up to currently?

It's Friday and I'm just vibing with my son, helping him with Mario Odyssey stuff whilst I play AC Odyssey periodically.

I say play, but really, I'm just taking screenshots.

Looking like a Windows XP wallpaper, almost. Had to snip some of it because, despite being lower than 4MB, Gamefaqs doesn't like it for some reason.

dancing_cactuar gave me the key to Gotham Knights

Thanks again. I know it got a mixed reception but all I need is a good Batfamily story. I can put up with any of its flaws.

I feel I should thank you too as that was very kind of you. But I wouldn't have been mad if you got it since you did ask first. Honestly, I had already accepted that I had gotten beat to it. >_>

Don't have to consider thanking me, wasn't my key to give mate. Hope you enjoy it though!

Right, posting my third and final list.

https://store.steampowered.com/wishlist/id/FlyingDaneAxe/

With that, I won't be posting it up any more in future threads, but I'll still hop in to talk, casually bump and engage with folk.

Thank you for anything I've received, as always, appreciative and grateful.

Right, I know I've already had a key, but if you don't mind me asking for another, Gotham Knights would be spectacular. If I'm being greedy though, feel free to pass me over for someone else.

Edit - Honestly, forget I asked, pass it on to Ivynn if you're allowing a double-dip as it is on their wishlist. If I were allowed, I wouldn't feel right taking something that somebody else actually has on their list.

Sent @Lokison a key, forgot to mention it was a humble key so I thought I'd just clarify it.

But since I'm making this post anyway, will mention I got some others up for grabs like Blasphemous, Bloodstained, Euro Truck Sim 2, System Shock 2, Dragon's Dogma, XCOM 2, Going Under, and Kerbal Space Program, to name a few.

Oh, and might as well post my own wishlist while I'm at it as well, second post in the thread if I remember correctly.

Wouldn't mind snagging Bloodstained if you don't mind.

Torn between Warhammer & Curse of the Dead Gods.

Hmm, I think I have enough Roguelites / likes in my library (blasphemy I know).

Could I get Warhammer from you please?

Wishlist #2

https://store.steampowered.com/wishlist/id/FlyingDaneAxe/#sort=order

Expect nothing, appreciate anything.

If you haven't added me yet but you've gifted during this sale / it's logged into the document, then I won't be able to send you a 10 gift card at the end when the draw / raffle happens (if you win).

If you wanna delete me after the topics / sale end, by all means.

Season 2 wasn't meh, it was full on rancid shite.

The first season had redeemable qualities and it could, realistically, only go up from there. How Lauren and co somehow managed to fuck that up is nothing short of incredible.

The complete and utter disregard for the source material, delusions of grandeur and flat out Hubris from her and her team as well.

I don't know the exact reasoning behind Cavill leaving but ultimately, it's for the best. Liam should do a runner too, it's a trainwreck of a show, why waste your time living in the shadow of another who already nailed the role within said trainwreck?
