Well...I don't want to go into the specifics but basically any copy of Windows 7 that is activated can be upgraded to 10 at no cost. Completely free and legal.

That ended a long time ago.

No it didn't. I could do it right now if I had a Windows 7 or 8/8.1 machine available. It's still free.

I was doing it a lot at my last company because part of government contracting required the HDDs be encrypted and Windows 8 Pro onwards contains BitLocker (only the Enterprise version of Vista and 7 had it). Since MS never stopped issuing free copies of Windows 10 upgrades, I upgraded machines that were still running Windows 7 whenever they came back from an outbound employee to Windows 10 in order to make this happen. Never once stopped being free. I also upgraded several of my own machines to Windows 10 after the supposed "drop-dead" date for free copies and even a year on from that date (it happened right before they launched Version 1607, "Anniversary") you can still do it with zero hassle.

Oh THAT. That's not a standard update, that's a new version of Windows 10.

I thought you were complaining about the usual update cycles. That's considerably bigger and more significant. It's probably in the area of like 10 GB of data.

Though I do agree that software engineering has taken a shit as a whole. Nothing gets tested anymore on the premise of "we'll patch it when it's out", which is absolute nonsense because very often common problems end up unfixed with this mentality. I don't even know who's making those decisions.

Well it was tragic, no doubt, but it would have been worse to see Japan ruin itself over the long term because their emperor would never give up.

The radiation effects of the bomb were also terrible but nothing short of a large act like that would actuall prompt a surrender.

Is HDR really such an exclusive tech that only the very best TVs can do it right? People make such a big deal about it you'd think it'd be more commonplace (I've often heard this is the main reason to go to 4K, not the resolution bump).

Apparently, being an LED TV, it can't do the actual HDR, just like a scaled down version of it.

Is this enough reason to return it? It hasn't gotten here yet so I haven't been able to see it in action.

I don't feel like I'd have cared about this until I learned about it but now that I know I feel like I might want to reconsider.

Japan was notorious for fighting to the last man. If the US didn't hit them hard and profoundly, the war in the Pacific was going to continue and do more harm to Japan than the two atomic bombs did.

If anything we did them a favor because we got their emperor to concede defeat before he threw his people's lives away any further.

Yet it is the social media platform of choice, not MySpace.

Is it because all the college kids who were on Facebook at its inception made it popular when it went wide?
