Off the top of my head, Rayman Legends let's you unlock skins and characters in-game. Not to mention, you can still play those old games. But microtransactions are here to stay, unfortunately. You can either sulk and lament the old days, or learn to accept it and move forward. I would say the best thing you could do to send a message is to not make any purchases of microtransactions, or even go so far as to not buy games that support such a system, but from the looks of things it wouldn't matter. Mostly just the cost of living being higher, and that you cant come and go as you please. Going to the mainland takes a fair amount of planning, and money depending on whether you need to take your car. I love hearing about places like this. So you start the first level, lets say in your home. Youre about to set out on a journey. You stop to pray at an altar to your god, earn their powers, later in the level you meet a monster that cant be defeated with the weapons your god gave you, a different god sees an opportunity to earn your loyalty and swoops in to offer you the tools you need to succeed.... Obviously this specific formula would get redundant, but you could find ways to mix it up. The gods throughout the game fight over you and strip and/or grant you powers or weapons. Its very design can be a huge turnoff. When you boil it down, its a boss rush game. There are no enemies to speak of outside of the colossi. Some people find the massive empty spaces to be boring. There is incentive to explore, however. Without getting too spoilery, you can increase your stamina and health through exploration. But outside of that, theres not much to do unless you find enjoyment in simply exploring and experimenting. Its a gorgeous game. Well-made. The original PS2 versions controls and camera were finicky, but thats been smoothed out in the remake (still not perfect, though). The story is minimal, but impactful.
