Portal 2 co-op was fantastic.

After that I tried doing the single player but never got into it. I guess I was just portaled out at that point. Maybe I'll go back to it someday (though I say that about a lot of things)

Sometimes you can't fix something without dismissing the creators' vision.

In terms of core artistic vision, Squall/Rinoa is probably the biggest element -- a hardcore uncaring loner meets a lively girl who is determined to cheer him up and won't take no for an answer. And he learns to open his heart and experience love and all of that. So I understand the intent; it's just a completely unappealing theme to me. It's not something that can really be fixed with better execution. To me, to "fix" it is to rip out the romance that is the central theme.

I could get behind a rewrite that focused on the Squall/Seifer rivalry, as someone mentioned earlier. Just remove Rinoa entirely and go all-in on the rivalry aspect.

I played Dead of Winter once and didn't enjoy it much. It seemed really slow (granted, we were still learning the rules) and we pretty much got wrecked by the zombies and events without needing secret objectives + traitor in the mix. It could just be a steep learning curve issue, but none of us liked it enough to want to give it another try.
