I think it's all the same misdemeanor with a 6-month maximum sentence. The mad-cow-infected meat would be the third party, and we didn't do wrong by not telling you it was infected.

The silly thing about the climate change argument is that people who deny it always use it to argue against clean and renewable energy and in favour of fossil fuels, despite the fact that the environmental damage from those energy sources goes well beyond just climate change, like the effects on the oceans, for instance. What it all comes down to is money, of course.

We should also probably talk about the Catalonia situation. Pretty bad stuff going on there, crazy to see police violence like this in a European country. Spain is handling this the absolute worst way and playing into the separatist's hands. At the same time, the Catalan government is also pushing forward an illegal referendum (even under Catalan law) that mandates secession in two days if successful. So it is inevitably going to get ugly.

Yeah I don't understand why their strategy goes beyond not honoring the election, since they're gonna do that anyway. The cops are beating voters with nightsticks and shooting them with rubber bullets. It's insane and totally unnecessary since the violence seems to be pretty much from the cops and no one else.

Different contexts. If a guy submitted a pic of himself a pair of boxers that was less revealing than the swim uniform that would get rejected for the same reason. It's not like you can just measure the surface area of exposed skin and treat that like it's the one variable that determines how appropriate an outfit is.

Knee-high leather boots are too sexy for a classroom environment. The arms thing is kind of a judgment call. I think female arms aren't as out-there as male arms, but also I haven't been an elementary schooler in 17 years so I can't comment on how out-of-place that is.

They'd probably justify slavery and illegal immigration in pretty similar ways. It's okay to give them a second-hand existence because at least they've got guaranteed food and shelter, and they wouldn't be able to otherwise. The price of goods will go up if companies have to spend more on their workers than is necessary to keep them breathing. Lots of companies that depend on slave labor will probably have to shut down. Slaves perform necessary functions that white people aren't willing to.

It's definitely not inappropriate. Not all questions should have easy answers and it's a good exercise to put yourself in the shoes of someone you vehemently disagree with.

This is basically what I was gonna say. The assignment raises really important points and by punishing the teacher from this assignment they're sending a message that the only moral lens we can look at history through is modern day's. The students would have to look at the fact that the Klansmen felt their way of life was at risk of being destroyed, and that former slaves would have to go out into a world that was still largely unsympathetic to them without the security of a master. That question would be a really valuable lesson in understanding people's fears and motivations, which is kind of the point of history.

look at the actual info you posted, dude. black people are stopped vastly disproportionately more often than white people, and therefore are killed a much higher rate than white people.

If the police interact with black people more, that's not because of the police. I'm not arguing that black people are disproportionately shot by police, but the police are shooting black people less than they would if that exact same group of police interactions were with white people.
