When I talk about the relationship, it is true I am applying what happens in situations like this in other pop culture (not to mention real life). Rose being less favored and living in her sister's shadow is backstory that the movie does not give--which is why I said "probably."

It is in the movie, though, that Rose is a geeky "everywoman" character who works in a low status job. She's low level, and while she's loyal to the resistance she doesn't see herself as a hero and is starstruck to meet the actual heroes of the resistance. Having a prettier, more heroic sister was obviously done to contrast with Rose.

I loved that scene but then I just love it when science fiction gets weird. As much as I love Star Wars I often wish they had more weird stuff. There's a little bit--like the original cantina scene, and the opening parts of Jabba's palace where you just have all these gross aliens sitting around stoned. And then the prequels had less of this. Everything was too polished and CGI clean looking. Even when they had practical effects it never looked weird or gross from what I imagine. TFA had those monsters on the pirate ship but they were weird in that CGI uncanny valley way which I don't like.

Anyway I thought it was awesome to have Luke milk the giant walrus cow, chug its green milk, then stare down Rey like a fucking lunatic. I want more of that, ha ha.

The whole reason they have the more attractive actress play the sister is to make Rose someone that people can sympathize and identify with. Her sister is the pretty one, the smart one, the one who becomes a heroic pilot and gunner for the resistance. Rose is the plain one, the underachiever, the one working as a low level mechanic in the bowels of the ship. Rose probably grew up in her sister's shadow, with everyone praising her. And now she's dead. The "good" one is gone, and now all that's left is frumpy little Rose to carry the torch--even though she probably feels like she'll never be half as cool as her sister.

I don't know why this bothers people so much. I mean there are lots of movies and TV shows that have an average looking "everyman" with an older brother who's hotter, smarter, was the star high school football player everybody talks about, etc. That's what they're doing here. It's not some conspiracy to eliminate hot women or whatever bizarre "agenda" people imagine. It's actually a common trope.

I never understood the appeal of wrapping a steak in bacon. The bacon overpowers the steak flavor, and the steak makes the bacon rubbery.

You're taking two delicious foods and making both of them taste worse by combining them!

I doubt that this had anything to do with it because unlike you, Disney knows that the Chinese audience will know that these are Vietnamese American actresses and therefore not give a shit. Hell even if they were ethnically Chinese I doubt it would do much for the Chinese market. Having the country of China involved in the plot or Chinese people from China--especially ones that are famous in China--that is how movies successfully pander to China. Having an Asian or two in your cast does nothing.

Definitely. I think Christensen is a decent actor but the part was a poor match for him. It needed him to be likeable, charismatic, and believable as a love interest. But he just comes across as a creep. He does well in the moments calling for him to be dark and evil but is a poor match for the rest.

Of course there are other factors. He probably didn't get much direction with the scenes that were hard for him. Also the writing was not very good. And there certainly are actors who would have done worse than him.

I wouldn't say Hayden is the main reason the character doesn't work but it definitely could have been better with a talented actor who was a better fit.

These pictures always freak my wife out because she sees both colors. It changes for her.

Like the first time, with that dress, I showed her and she was like "oh yeah my friend showed me almost the same picture but it was blue and black, not white and gold like that one."

I took back the phone and said the whole point is that it looks different for everybody. Idly I showed her again and she said "hey that's the one I saw!"

I would turn away and show it again and which one she saw seemed to be random. When she realized that it really was the same picture it really freaked her out (understandably).

"Fat" is just a nebulous term that means having a level of visible body fat over whatever is considered average or acceptable. It's totally subjective where the line is.

"Thick" refers to having a proportionately high level of visible body fat in certain areas, usually the thighs and butt.

People who prefer skinny women will often consider any "thickness" to be the same as being "fat." It's not though, even if you personally don't find it any more attractive than being large in different ways.

Then what about knowing more about a heavily modified space craft that not even the owner knew much about other than the last owner being a douche.

1. She was pointing out modifications that the last owner (who she had worked for) had made.
2. Her job was to scavenge ships so knowing how the mechanics work would be essential. How would she know what was valuable otherwise?
3. The movie shows her to be a total geek for spaceships so it makes sense that she would know a lot.
4. Since when is Han good at fixing ships anyway? He's a great pilot but we never see him actually being good at fixing the Falcon. In fact his entire story arc in ESB centers on him failing to fix the Falcon's hyperdrive. It does get fixed, but not by Han!

Also force or no force she doesn't actually outmaneuver the pilots.

She doesn't outfly them though. They keep up with her with no problem. She only wins because of one good shot by Finn (who probably had element of surprise because they didn't expect that pile of junk to actually shoot) and one miracle shot that would be completely unbelievable except force sensitive people often seem to pull them off.

Han Solo would probably have gotten them to crash just by outmaneuvering them. He wouldn't even have needed Finn as a gunner.

They are different, by one or two sizes. Japanese C would probably be a B in US or Europe, while a Japanese G would be more like an E.

There are other factors that might make the gap seem bigger than it is. One is, cup size is relative to the rest of the body, and Japanese women have smaller, more petite frames in general. So the same cup size would have smaller breasts.

Also there is the fact that we are looking at porn stars, who tend to exaggerate because, you know, having bigger breasts is an obvious advantage in their line of work. A lot of the women here are probably a cup or two smaller than their bio claims.

Uhh it's always ranked as the best Star Wars film, period. Any other list is completely wrong.

I also agree with TC.

Star Wars '77 is the best. Empire has better dialogue, better acting, better directing, and overall is a lot more polished. But the way that Star Wars managed to build a mythology from the ground up and capture the hearts of million is nothing short of miraculous. Empire refines what Star Wars does but in the end it's all based on the groundwork laid down by the first movie. There are so many little things--the music, the characters, the look, the sound design--it all came together to make a compelling whole. It took countless influences from older movies and puts them together to make something that felt fresh and new but familiar too.

Star Wars may be rougher around the edges but what it does well is an accomplishment that is unparalleled in cinema.

Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star Wars movie, but the original is the best.
