Oh, I did this same type of ranking in 2016. I don't have a saved list though, so I couldn't tell you what was on it. Just that if people remember what they nominated then, I'd rather they not nominate it this time around. No pressure though, it's my fault for not saving it, so I won't hamper people's nomination options.

Oh the irony.

When I first started listening to Deadbolt (before I was even considering nomming for this topic), I expected every track to sound like Blood on the Dancefloor. I was a Hotline Miami fan, I loved its soundtrack and Deadbolt played like HM so naturally I thought I'd get more pumping tunes like that. But what I discovered instead was something else. Very cool, unique, varied. I realize that now.

I severely regret making Blood on the Dancefloor my first entry in this OST, when it could have been any of these instead:





to start.

But. I am glad to get this OST out there and get a few people interested. That is all I really wanted coming into this :D

Megaton Rainfall (PC) best Superman simulator ever. It looks pretty alpha the more you play it so I recommend just stopping once you've beat it. But man that final boss was super epic.

There's nothing wrong with Survival Horror atmosphere OSTs, but the SH3 picks in this ranking were terrible. And if anything, I would've picked SH2 it had much better stuff

Wow Megaton Furioso feels like something out of an edgy new WWE entrance song.

I much prefer his other song Burly Heart, which while still has remnants of that hard rock at least expands a bit to "tell a better story" by changing things up.

To whoever got Hollow Knight in and seeded it, my thanks. I don't expect it to get far, but it's such an underrated indie game that I feel lacked marketing and came out early 2017 as factors for its obscurity.

I was getting some Risk of Rain vibes with Dancefloor, and then I finally saw that Chris Christodoulou composed Deadbolt's soundtrack.

Yep, this is also how I pretty much found the game. If you're a fan of Hotline Miami, it's essentially this game in Sidescrolling form.

Ironically, this was my most "had-to-put-in" song when I was first devising my noms, but it's apparently the most polarizingly voted of the bunch. Listening to it now, I guess it's only charm stems from the context in which you play this level (think nightclub with vampires and you're sent to assassinate them).

I initially thought Deadbolt's OST was similar to Hotline Miami's, given the genre of their games but I was quite surprised that Chris has managed to arrange all sorts of different styles in his tracks, with this one being the only HM-ish song.

Anyways, looks like my day just got busier so I probably won't get to my block until the succeeding day

God, Wadjet Eye keeps making darker and darker games. I thought nothing could top the moral ambiguity of my play of Technobabylon last year. Anyways, it's a great game for anyone looking for a nice Post-Apoc adventure played straight. Last year's Dead Synchronicity was kind of lame for its shortness.

The Darkside Detective (PC)

Not at all what I was expecting but I paid for it so...

Easy puzzles, little to no animation, and dissonant tone. I was led to believe the game was scary but it was actually a bit lighthearted. Jokes were okay; I just wasn't in the mood for em given the game genre. Humor is almost like something out of an Ace Attorney game tbh

This is so nice. Divinity's OST reminds me of Guild Wars 2's score. I've been meaning to play this game but my brother sort of wants to go at this together.

I unfortunately did not enjoy this block at all. I tried really hard to remain unbiased as Dustforce OST is one of my personal faves, but the only thing that deserved a second listen was the holier than thou Divinity track. I would say Dustforce could have had a better rank if it wasn't this song in particular, of which I find a bit repetitive.

The bottom 3 are just repetitive period, if not a bit cliche. The bottom score was to me, incomplete. It had that buildup but no climax to end things with.

Anyways, I await the next block.

Speaking of FFX, I just read something about it on tvtropes. Apparently it wasn't even suppose to be an FF game in the first place and was about a doctor curing a diesease that killed people when they turned 18. First I've heard of it.
